Looking so young? This was their last performance in front of an audience, just before their breakup, at the German TV, where they presented three of their hits. Actually they look quite older, instead. About Cassandra. She was a character from ancient Greek mythology. A daughter of Hecuba and Priam, the King of Troy. The myth has various versions, but in all versions she received by the gods the power to predict the future and acted as a prophetess. The problem was that the city was in for a future full of tragedies and misfortunes. She would tell that to her fellow citizens, but nobody listened to her. They took her as a jinx. According to the various versions she was finally put to death, sent to exile or killed during the capture of the city. Still today in many languages "being a Cassandra" means being somebody who foresee a dark future, but unheard by everybody. This ABBA song is the first attempt to apologize to her by somebody, after more than two and a half millennia.

Cassandra was a trojan priestess. The god Apollo loved her and gave her the ability of seeing the future. But when she didn't return his love he couldn't take away the gift and so he added the curse that no one would believe her prophecies. That's why nobody believed her warnings about the attack on Troy.

Thank you for these new reactions in these ABBA Week This video is from a 1982 German TV Special with three songs: "The day before you arrived", "Cassandra" "Under Attack" It was one of ABBA's last television performances, on November 11, 1982, coincidentally the day of my 25th birthday. (42 years passed, today I am 67) "Cassandra" is a B-side to one of ABBA's two latest singles, with "The day before You came" on the A-side. In my personal opinion I like "Cassandra" better, it's beautiful, with a great Frida on lead vocals and a powerful chorus with Agnetha ABBA had great lyrics, some more sad or melancholic, but this is inspired by a prophetess from ancient mythology in Greece guitarist Björn has written lyrics with other historical themes, already with "Fernando" in 1976 (thinking about the Mexican revolution) as with "The Piper" in 1980 (based on The Pied Piper of Hamelin) Thanks again for the new reaction I wish you a great week My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
