Great review Rob very informative! This looks to be a common theme with next gen SLs - we'll probably see everything full power or close to it in 1-2 years, as the weights come close enough to provide a normal bike feel.

I made a big stink about this to the Orbea rep when I tested the new Wild. No way in hell is it worth it to me to buy the whole bike covered in parts I don’t need and don’t want. Make a frame and don’t get ridiculous with the price and we’re talking.

I agree @BSE75..and I simply choose not to buy their overpriced products if I don't get at least a 25% discount from the retail recommended price; as you can see right now, at the sellout, the current(future previous) model you can purchase it with a minimum 30%, even 40%...and at these prices, the retailer still has his markup and so is the manufacturer(just to have an idea of the actual costs of these bikes); so, in my opinion, it is a very simple matter: buy at sellout or ask for a serious discount and, of course, don't ever buy at the RRP, no matter how nice the new bike is. In my country, there is a saying; stupid are not those who ask, stupid are those willing to pay.

High end bikes aren't really targeted at the person with an average income. The same goes for high end cars, high end motorcycles and pretty much high end "anything". An average income person can buy a very nice analogue bike for £3000.

tbh, I was thinking of getting an light emtb but not for these prices, full power doesn't amke sense in my area as it would be absolute overkill because of little available elevation. I still have my normal bikes, but I am slowly turning away from mountainbiking due to prices. In germany people don't buy their bikes rather lease it via their work, what gives you tax benefits and when you buy the used bike at the end you have a massive discount overall. A ~5k-bike for example would then cost about 3400€, but this price includes service fees for three years.

I still don't understand why Small/medium bike are spec with the same component dans large/XL. Most of the time, taller rider are heavier than small rider, thus needing burlier build. Your argument toward a 38 perfectly shows this. A 65kg rider dont need a 38, but at 6'3 and 90kg like yourself, i clearly see a benefit of a 38. Same thing coul apply to brakes, wheel and tire. The MYO ''kinda'' offer that possibility, but I would like to see that in more brand.

My 5'-1" wife loved the 1st gen. Rise, but the standover was a bit much for her. Any predictions on if the Gen 2 (short travel), will be more accessible to smaller riders like my wife? And, if you wanted to slap a 50mm riser bar on the bike (as you mention), is there enough cable housing in reserve to allow the higher rise handlebar? And, is there a way to mount a chainring bash guard? That said, it's a beauty!

So many features on this bike are well thought out, 2 support profiles, and battery capacities, the weight and power offered. It even looks good. Then they wet the bed by using headset cable routing, and the motor rattles like a box of spanners , and it's noisy whilst climbing too. I'm sure owners will get used to it but I'd rather not have to.

Regarding the intended use: I do keep hearing influencers talking about the intended use of any given bike and I fully understand as a product developer why that is. But the thing that always comes to my mind is me being a child on a bmx. Still at 41 I do ride any bike, cargo, Dutch bike, folding bike, gravel, the list is long, like I am child. So from going down side walks over a curbstone to riding on trails with bikes that are not ment in developers mind for it. At this price point I would want a stiffer back, a burly front fork and a do it all knife that really makes me not wondering whether or not this bike is intended for it. A bike should be able to take a beating and a MTB needs to go up and down hill. Thanks for the steady nice reviews, Rob!

Then you do have almost all of it - and currently you can get pretty good deals for it. If you make sure you’re not getting your hands on the first version, accidentally. Besides that. The price tag is ridiculous. Given the current situation of the bike industry I don’t think they will keep that price for long, but still too much.

When I bought my Rise, it’s big selling point for me was that it didn’t look so much like an eMTB and the “RS Tune” for a more natural pedaling experience. But now that the rest of the industry has caught up, I see no compelling reasons to buy a Rise at this point. All these numbers / percentages and the “RS Tune” sound more like marketing wankery to me. 🤷‍♂️

I would think it's a technical marvel if it weighed under 18kg with 160 fork. My Turbo Levo weighs only 1 kg more with 170 fork, and I can easily get it down to the same weight with couple more lighter parts. Sweet looking bike though..

Loose the DH tires and the coil shock and you will be at 18 kg.

Why can't Mondraker and Specialized figure out how to build an ebike that can slam a long dropper?

sold my rise two days ago. after 6 months checking out the "light E MTB" market. As a gravel biker and MTB Rider I chose to go back to the "full" E MTB because it's just way more fun! There is no chance light E MTB can compete when it comes to punch and fun factor.

They’re fun up until you have to heft the full fat over a fence or put it on a roof then they suck.

Surely the weakness is still the Shimano motor? Im an EP8 owner and im just waiting for it to die on me.

I own a previous gen rise and I think integrated motor/gearboxes will be a game changer. It's great to see all the tech evolving, but I hope they think about how it can be retrofitted into older bikes.

But why??? So are they cancelling the Wild? And that stiffening cross brace is ugly, but probably necessary for the 'beefier' build.

Those headset bearings are not that great my 5 month old wild needs a set of headset bearings water runs down the cables and into them. Enduro need to update the 440c stainless steel to something like lc200n for improved corrosion protection

Try adjusting your seat up while riding uphill. Your legs are nowhere near coming to proper extension on the down stroke.
