I put some rounds down range with a Gen4 G19 that was made in May, 2016. I also go over the pistol and what I think of it overall.

My daughter brought a G19 gen 3 brand new. It had FTF, FTE, erratic ejection, slide locking closed. Glock said to clean to clean firearm then shoot again. Cleaned it good still the same problems so sold it and purchased PX4 storm and wallaaaa no problems at all. I feel if a pistol won't function fine from the factory especially after you clean it well then its not worth dealing with.

The true Gen 4 G19 update happened sometime in 2013. Along with addressing the early issues in this video, they also added the nub in the beaver tail for better back-strap lockup. If your Gen 4 G19 has that nub you should be gtg. My updated Gen 4 G19 from 2013 has had zero failures with various types of ammo. No brass to face issues either. Also big thanks for all of the great videos Mrgunsandgear!

NIce video sir. I'm happy with my glock 19 gen 4 so far. I thought about getting the gen 5, but ultimately decided on the gen 4. Happy to see that at the tail end of the gen 4 and right when gen 5 came out, glock has ironed out the issues.

My G19 gen 4 has similar overall weak ejection. I've had btf a few times, but it's been about a thousand rounds since the last time. Glad you did a followup and I hope this one serves you well.

I'm glad you did this review. I have Gen4 G19 (my EDC) and it has done fantastic. I've run about 600 rounds (I know, a low round count) of mixed ammo: subsonic, standard, +P, Winchester, Hornady, Tula, and some reload stuff. Works well HOWEVER as you have stated mine is relatively new. I want to say late 2011, early 2012.

thanks for the update! My first handgun ever was a Gen4 G17 (bought in May 2012), which has been flawless over 2000 rounds and 2 defensive handgun classes later. My current carry gun is Gen4 G19 that I bought in January 2015 and it too has been outstanding, and even survived a 3 day Thunder Ranch defensive handgun class with Clint Smith a month ago. The only jams it had were when I was doing one hand shooting with my weak hand and not providing enough resistance or hitting the slide with my thumb when doing flashlight work, but that's my fault. As a lefty shooter with small-medium size hands I MUCH prefer the Gen4 guns and both mine have been outstanding. Keep up the good work!

I remember I was deciding with get the G19 3rd or 4th gen pistol back in March of this year. I ended up getting the gen 3 glock mainly because it was slightly cheaper. The local gun shop owner I bought G19 gen 3 from made a pricing mistake on the pistol which supposed to be $559.95, but was priced at $509.95. The owner went decide to honor the price that was listed and I ended up getting a sweet deal in the process. I can't complain and gun shoot great.

The only thing needed for this problem is a stronger extractor spring. How GLOCK could not figure that out for months is beyond me, it took me less than one minute to see the extractor springs where not putting enough tension on the new extractors. Failures to extract and eject in a non gas system are usually caused by the extractor or low tension on the extractor.

Great video. My first purchase was a G23 Gen 4 around 4 years ago and although I never issues with feeding it used to eject straight to my face. I decided to trade the 23 for a 19 around 2 years ago, 3000 rds later and still going strong.

I had the same issue with my 23 that I bought in 2012. I used to get hit straight in the forehead. I still have it and it ejects normally. I talked to my local Glock rep, and he told me that the spring they put in was just too strong. He told me to give it about 1,000 rounds. It took around 1,500-2000 before the problem stopped. Thousands of rounds later and it's still never failed.

Bought a 19 in January 2013. Lost count of the number of times it drew blood from my forehead with it's erratic ejections. Sent it back to Glock , they changed out a few parts (ejector, extractor etc) and sent it back with little to no improvement. Put in an Apex extractor and it made a difference but still anything short of 124 grain made the ejections very unpredictable. Glocks have their place but my CZ75's will always be my go to guns.

For anyone who's wondering about the smooth face trigger, it's a Gen4 Glock 17 trigger. I got one from lonewolf. It even has the same part number on it as the original G19 trigger, 3600-1, but has a smooth face instead. And BTW it feels a lot better than the serrated one. I wish they made a smooth faced one for the 43!

I bought a NIB gen 4 19 back in May 2016. Ran 300 rounds through it before I cleaned it. Exactly 1 shell hit me square in my right eye but thankfully I had on shades. I've grown up with Glocks. I got my first 19 back in 1994 and my friends and I would laugh about how they would regularly drop spent shells right on your head or spit them out left or right at random. My current gen 4 seems to have come a long way. My gen 1 glock 26 was very consistent in its positive rightward ejection.

Ive had my Gen 4, g19 to 2 years, I have had failure to feed and failure to fire problems with it, Ive noticed that it all depends on the ammo that I feed it. I also have had the same problem with my Gen 4 g17 but not as bad. While I love the guns they are very finicky, to the point that I now carry a Walther PPQ for my off duty carry.

I know it's not quite the same as the G19, but my Gen 4 G23 will occasionally kick its brass so high into the air that it'll go over the divider at the range & land on the person next to me. It seems a bit unusual to me but I haven't had any failures with the G23 or my G26, both Gen4 models. Thanks for the update on your experiences with the G19!

My 19 was bought April 1 2016. My gen4 23 with the LW9 barrel gives brass to face. I bought it in August 2013. It's been so long since I shot 40 I don't remember if it throws 40 in my face. (need to remedy that!) They way we figured out something was wrong I took pics of my ejector side by side with my G4 17. My brother saw the difference when I sent him the pics. I kept the old part. I did try an extractor swap from my brand new 17 and that didn't fix it. $11 off a seller on Ebay with free shipping.

my g19 gen 4 works flawlessly. My wife's has bad pignose. It slows the slide down so it stays out of battery everytime. Also shells strike her in face most of the time. Tried differet ammo, I fired it and it also does same thing to me. switched mags also. 150 rounds. didnt fire any more because it was out of battery almost everytime. sent back to factory. hope they can fix it its brand new...

I have a BBKN gen 4 and it ejects about the same. It's all about the recoil spring. It's designed for euro ammo which is like +p+. I have competition 34's with lighter recoil springs and it clears up any weak ejection.
@wmsymms
@wmsymms 5 жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting thought about the recoil spring. So a lighter recoil spring would allow to slide to operate at a faster cycling speed and the empty bullet case would hit the ejector harder for a more powerful/positive ejection. I may have to try that for my Gen 4 G19 BTF problem, although maybe it’ll just hit me in the face harder.

Glad your 19g4 works boringly reliable now. I have a 4 yr old gen 4 that has an excess of 4.5k rounds down range, and I've never had a malfunction that wasn't manually induced. When I was first debating whether to go G3 or G4 I was almost worried about the problems I was reading online, but the 4 won out due to the lgs not having a 3 and I'm glad for it. 5 pistol classes later and everyday carry abuse, it's been a boring gun lol.

I've bought two new Gen 4 Glock 19s in the last three months and I've had a Gen 3 19 for about two years. I've had to put 40 S&W extractors in all three to get them to eject properly. The problem I found is that the stock 9mm extractors don't hold the empty case against the breach face firmly enough to get consistent ejection. The 40 S&W extractor holds the empty case much more firmly, so much so in fact that I've had to stone the area where there extractor grabs the rim in order to allow a fresh cartridge to slide under it on two of them. The last 40 S&W extractor I put in my newest 19 came from Lone Wolf and it didn't require any fitting. Just to backtrack a little here, my Gen 3 would throw the occasional empty in my face and I had a couple of stove pipes with it, the first Gen 4 I bought had horrible ejection and would throw almost every empty in my face and my newest Gen 4 ejection was barely acceptable.

I've had the G19 Gen 4 for about 2 years now (got it at the end of 2015) and it's been near flawless .I had a few failures to return to battery with one brand of ammo, but it's ate everything I throw at it after the first few hundred rounds. Sadly I've had more issues with the newer gen 3's as I have a G26 that throws it back at your face right out of the box (it's better with hot ammo) .. my gen 4's surprisingly have all been flawless . .I had BOTH the G19 and G17 gen 4's and they've both been great. my gen 3's in 19, 26 and 30 all had BTF.... nothing big, like mostly over my right shoulder, but still annoying..... The Gen 3's started showing the same flaws the gen 4's did because Glock switched over to using the Gen 4 extractors and parts in the gen 3's (including using the same dual recoil springs that the gen 4's had) so it's less of a "gen 4's had the problems" as much as ALL gen 3's and gen 4's had those problems with the 19 and 17 thanks to glock changing manufacturing processes and parts for the guns. luckily the only gun I have that has any annoyances are a brand new gen 3 that has dribbling ejection (but it's only 100 rounds fired so far and the spring could need some wearing in)

I finally got a decent glock 19 as well. I had one of the bad ones. I preordered the bad one right when they came out and ejection was TERRIBLE

around the 8000 round mark, my gen 3 19 started to have some of the strange ejection. I will get hit in the face with some brass from time to time. Just hit 10,000 about 3 weeks ago; it hasn't gotten any worse.

The only guns that I have had that have thrown brass more erratically have been springfield 1911s. 3 trps, lb operator, mc operator, loaded and range officer all throw brass worse than even a glock. Most of them also suffered from double feeds. 3 Ed Browns, 7 Les Baers, 1 Nighthawk, 1 wilson and 17 Kimbers all run flawless with hsts and even steel cased ammo. Over 2500 rds of hsts and never a failure.

oh yeah also have 1 nighthawk that throws brass like a springfield. guess what its a double feeder. also sometimes pulls spent cases back into the mag feedlips and or will jave the empty case just laying on top of the mag like my springfields do.

Bought my gen 4 a year ago new. The shop gave me a bag of ammo with it and failed by locking the slide back 1/8" several times. The ammo was crap reloads. I had another shop check the ammo. Since then about 4000 rounds with zero failures feeding anything, steel, brass, aluminum, hollow points. Lesson learned, never use ammo that comes in a plastic bag. Carry it daily.

About 6 months ago I got a Grey G4 G19. It has very weak ejection with standard pressure GECO ammo. Has never jammed,but the brass seems to just dribble out of the ejection port. Hotter loads like Lawman 124 FMJ or,I assume,NATO spec Magtech run and eject great. American Eagle 115/124 are both better than GECO but not as good as the hotter rounds. Of course HST and Gold Dot's ran and ejected great. Not a huge G4 fan,as I don't see what was wrong with a proven G3 platform. I doubt I would get another G$. I had a Blue Label G41 that I didn't keep very long. Was not as accurate as I thought it should be and disassembly/reassembly was quirky. Had to pull the trigger forward to get the slide back on or the firing pin block plunger would keep the slide from going fully to the rear. I have several G3 Glock's that will serve me just fine. Keeping the G4 G19 because I love the Grey frame.

they did that for the gen 4 for better recoil management. they put in a stronger spring. the harder it cycles back the further the ejection the less it cycles back the smoother it is
@nbates9893

That recoil spring was made to tame the recoil of the 40 guns. It had no business going anywhere near the 9 mil guns and they know that.

The G17 was designed to shoot Nato spec ammo as part of it's trials, which is 10% over pressure, so basically it's a +P round.

My Gen 4 G19 had FTF issues that never went away even after several hundred break in rounds. Further research indicated that it was the magazine followers. I called Glock and had them send me 3 new ones. Of course they did not want to believe this was the problem and didn't appreciate my self diagnosis but who cares - I was right and so was the rest of the internet. I didn't bother cleaning it or anything because I wanted to prove it was the followers. Taken it to the range several times since then and put a couple hundred rounds through and never one single issue. LOVE this gun! Highly recommend the smooth Gen 3 trigger bar and Glock Minus connector to make a much better trigger on an already great firearm!

Nice vid and love the channel! 2 questions: 1. What is the concern with the ejection? I get a a FTE where the shell does not exit away the firearm, but what are you or should anyone be concerned with relating to the ejected casing and where it flies to? 2. What type of holster in that OWB for the G19? Thanks for all you do!

Mine was having lots of trouble jamming. Not sure if I accidentally bent the ejector. $11 and I fixed it. I went through 2 "Glock Certified Armorers" before I fixed it myself. They didn't fix it, RSA swap, found a filing wrapped around the safety plunger #1. (He put the trigger spring back in there wrong) Next guy found that and was giving me the "gee you did this wrong look) told him it was the other guy 2 weeks before. Now I need to research why my 21 spits it into my face. ;-)

I think these issues have been resolved for long time now. I've bought every model of 9mm Gen 4 Glock in the last 3 years and they all ran 100%. 26, 17, and 19 all good to go. I think Glock resolved the recoil spring problem rather quickly.

My first glock was a gen 4 g19. I hated the grip angle and I got constant brass to the face. after about 3000 rds I got rid of it. the grip angle is something I can get used to, but the btf ruined two pairs of prescription glasses. if the problem is truly fixed I might give it another try as for me the g19 is the perfect sized carry gun.
