Candy my dog has been doing the same for months. We’re we have small dogs, has they get older, there is esophagus, starts getting weaker and it needs to be stretched. They have put my dog on cough medicine it’s helped tremendously. She also may have an enlarged heart my dogs on cough medicine, lasix, and a bunch of other heart medications it’s helped a lot. I’ve also changed her diet to regular non season shredded chicken. All of that has helped her tremendously!!!

that happened to my pomeranian too! i took him to the vet and they said poms are prone to collapsed tracheas but they gave him medicine and he’s a lot better now but his is not really collapsing yet! it’s very common in pomeranians they just recommend an air purifier, not really using collars on them, and keeping them hydrated!! i’m sure the weather can affect it too :)

My grandpas Pomeranian does that too. Usually when she gets super excited or anxious. I’ve always thought it was from using a collar and it pulling on her neck.

pippa could have a heart murmur! my dog started doing exactly that and we couldn’t get a diagnosis. went and got a second opinion and it turned out he had a heart murmur. it gets worse and then good and is kind of a rollercoaster. hopefully it’s not her case but just an idea!

My moms Pomeranian does makes that same sound every now and then. The vet told her it was due to tracheal collapse. Apparently it is common in the Pomeranian breed.

Yep we had a Pom that had that before. The xray showed her trach looks normal so we don’t think it’s that this time. But thanks for the info!

My dog has been doing the exact same thing with the coughing it gets worse during the night. It has been going on for about 2 years now and slowly getting worse and worse but other than that she acts mostly fine. She is about as old as Pipa is maybe a few years younger. My mom did some research and definitely thinks it's congestive heart failure. Hoping Pipa doesn't have that and gets well soon!!

i agree about the CHF but the vet says her heart sounds strong and healthy and she is getting better and not coughing as much so maybe she is right and it is allergies or bronchitis. We are getting a little more sleep but some night we are still being woke up bright and early. It's like having a newborn again!! Hope her dog gets better! Maybe some meds will help!

My Maltese dog was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea, and the only medication that effectively eased his persistent cough was hydrocodone syrup. This treatment allowed him to live comfortably for several wonderful years, until he peacefully passed away at the age of 16.

I have the same breed. She has a collapsed trac. Did your vet do any xray to see if that’s the case? My dog is on two meds for treatment and hardly ever coughs now. This condition is common in poms

On Friday the worst day of my life my pup was acting funny we took him to the vet his heart muurrum was the highest it could go and they found a mass in his liver it took over his whole abdomen he had cancer we made the decision to put him down I don't think I have ever been this heartbroken. Literally 2024 is the worst year ever losing my cat in Feb my grandma in May and now my dog in September

That cough sounds like collapsed trachea. Did they specifically check her trachea? It's very common in small dogs. I had to use a certain harness for mine collars were too dangerous for him.

Hi! We had another Pom years ago that had the reverse sneeze as well and it got worse as she aged but this started to be nonstop that first night. Thankfully after two weeks there has been some relief. If you research when it gets worse it is typically front allergies, bronchitis, parasites or even a foreign body or a collapsed trachea which is why we did the X-rays. Also her breathing was very abnormal like she couldn’t catch her breath.
