It's an outtake from the Byrds reunion album, recorded at Wally Heider Studios in 1972. The engineer on that session was named Doc Storch, who Gene is talking to at the top of the tape.

Just beautiful. This version adds a whole different perspective on the song and the artist. His range including writing, arranging, vocals, guitar work, and the ability to communicate human emotion through music is just incredible.

If this was "just for the fun of it" Gene is the master of understatement. This is incredible.

Just fuckin unreal man. The solid as hell Voice the solid strings and rhythm. Then that high note he hits. Even my wife says this is her favorite song ( from the album version) and she says she doesn’t know what it is about it. And i tell her that’s all you have to say.

Gene's voice is a deep as a Missouri holler and as expansive like a Midwestern plain. His voice doesn't need clutter!

Can't agree that it's the definitive version -- the "Roadmaster" track with that gorgeous fiddle is just perfect. But this version IS an unexpected treasure that pulls you right in and perceive the song's meaning and haunted mood differently! Could there be yet more treasures we've not yet heard from Gene? Meanwhile, thanks SO MUCH for posting this!

The title of this song is "In A Misty Morning" from Gene Clark's 1972 Roadmaster album. Here's the studio version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJaQk5RphqmKo9k&ab_channel=Bennie66

Those wonderful melodies, combined with that rich voice, I wonder why Gene never played with Neil Young, surely they would have appreciated each other's talents for creating superb tunes?

Love this version, the album cut is overdone in my opinion. Here, Gene's raw, pure talent stands beautifully on its own...it needs nothing else.

This is a beautiful acoustic version of one of Gene's typically wonderful songs. Very different to the version released on the Roadmaster album back in 1973. Is this track available on compact disc currently? Thank you for uploading it!

Yep. Roadmaster was rereleased in the US.

Does not seem like this is from 1979 with McGuinn and Hillman - this song was written so much earlier and released on (Roadmaster 1973). Is the "Doug" Gene referencing to in the beginning Doug Dillard - that may help get a better date of the recording...

Why was this not filled out and released on the Byrds reunion album. This song starts good but misses the instrumentation of the roadmaster version.

+Snuggles McSquishbottom oldtimer! I've got every Geno album I could find. Have you heard the '78 concert he did w/Roger at The Bottom Line? It's great.I used a bunch of songs from it as soundtracks for my flower riffs videos. I've got a featured playlist on my channel of ex-Byrds music. The Bottom Line tracks are in it. 'o)
