I first heard Van Halen on WABX radio when Gene Simmons was guest DJ for two hours. He talked about this great new group named after two brotherswho were going to release an album soon. He played Running With The Devil demo. I thought it was great. Gene pushed and promoted the band when nobody was listening. Van Halen couldn’t get arrested with a gun for a long time. We can literally thank Gene for a big part of the bands emergence.

I have been a VH(DLR) fan since 78 and saw them in concert several times 81, 83 US Festival and in 2015. The last concert was really rather sad DLR couldn't even sing alot of the songs. The VH Live performances were the reason they go recognized and signed. That said, I agree that DLR and VH's best days are behind them, but so are Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and the rest of the KISS band.

Good of him to make a public apology. I love Dave, but he is a way different performer than he was in 1986. But, of course, who isn't. These guys are holding on way too long in my opinion. I prefer to remember them in their prime. I don't care anything about seeing either group at this stage, especially for $150.

And I’d like to go to some VH pages and see what some fans are saying about Dave lately. Probably way worse than what Gene said. Say what you want but KISS is still dong KISS 45+ yrs later. According to Greg Renoff's "Van Halen Rising", what Simmons was actually interested in was Eddie and the whole demo ruse was an attempt to snag him from the band. It is stated that it's actually Eddie playing on Love Gun's "Christine Sixteen" which Simmons had him demo and it was forevermore copied by Frehley lick for lick.

In my opinion, this was a genuine, sincere apology, it seems acceptable. On a different note; Simmons continues to take credit for VH's success, which isn't true. He went to LA to check out a completely different band, whom didn't show up. He stuck around and saw VH. He was so impressed, he made an offer. Come to NY, do some demos and I'll shop it around, if nobody wants to sign you, I'll rip up this contract and wish you the best. That's what happened. They went back to LA and played the strip and earned their contract from club gigs. Screw Simmons and his huge ego.

Sad irony. 24hrs ago I should have been on my way to Raleigh NC to catch the show. Oblivious to all the gossip, bs, etc. Now Ive been able to catch up on ALL the dirt and I'm hearing (1) Goofy Jackie Stewart Hat Wearing Washed Up Dave is out, and (2) around 20 different sources online signaling that Stanley himself is either shot vocally or has even been lip synching tunes live. Classic.

Gene Simmons, the man who tried to get Van Halen a record deal and whiffed. Van Halen, a band with the greatest guitarist anyone had seen since Hendrix, the most charismatic frontman since Mick Jagger, and the biggest buzz of any band in LA, and Gene came up with zip. Gee, great businessman.
