Thank you so much for this video, my daughter has a tongue tie and I’ve been so stressed about it. Been referred to an ENT and a pediatric dentist, one uses the scalpel and the other uses a laser and I’ve been told from different LCs that the scalpel is better. This has caused me so much stress and anxiety over who to choose and what to do. I sincerely thank you for discussing the different techniques, hearing that the method doesn’t matter has greatly decreased my anxiety!

@@selenemayorga-gutierrez4419 Hi. We breastfed for 3 months. Cutting her tongue tie didn't correct her latch. Latching caused so much pain. I even got a lactation consultant to try and help the situation. I was completely heartbroken, but I started exclusive pumping and then bottle feeding her the breast milk. We are now almost 11 months and still giving breast milk. Good luck with your journey. :-)

That great you're still able to pump and have a great supply for that long, it's not easy feeding or pumping, you go mama! We did the tongue tie procedure done yesterday and all seems well with feeding he latched right one and wow what a difference I feel from before. Not as painful but he won't let me do the stretches and it's causing a bit of anxiety in my end so hopefully the LC will help us figure that out. God forbid we had to go a revision.

3 weeks postpartum, and I've decided to abandon breastfeeding. I really tried! I had lactation teams visiting while in the hospital, we tried everything possible and baby just cant latch. I tried pumping, but supply has dwindled....I've cried, been frustrated. But overall, Dr. Is right, as long as baby is gaining weight and growing amd his needs are met, theres nothing wrong with switching to formula. It was just a hope of mine to breastfeed for bonding reasons, but skin to skin will still happen for some time at least :)

It can mess with hormones, resulting in permamentn deformities of his facial structure.. Did you not consider fixing his tongue tie? I got my tongue tie surgery yesterday, and was immediately able to stick my tongue out, lick my lips, etc.. i noticed when i got home it was harder and there’s a lot of swelling under my tongue and it became harder to move it. taking a closer look, it looks like the doctor only cut the thinner layer and left the thick layer of the frenulum. i think the doctor didn’t cut enough off, because there’s swelling around the frenulum which is restricting my tongue movement.. which looks like it could be a permanent issue. should i wait it out a few more days, or call the doctor ASAP?
@GeneLiuMD5 жыл бұрын
What happened? How much to cut is really an art, not a science. If you were able to move the tongue enough immediately, they likely cut "enough". Swelling and muscle soreness absolutely kick in after the procedure for a few days.
@z-airerayford4795 жыл бұрын

My 6 month old has tongue tie and the emt recommended I should wait until she is 3 or 4 yrs old to go under anesthesia b/c he said it is going to hurt a lot now and he might cut something else because she moves a lot now. I dont feel right about it. I do want to get done and I didnt have it done before b/c her ped said she was too young to do it. I do want it done on her to prevent any future problems specially when she starts speaking. What do you recommend?
@GeneLiuMD6 жыл бұрын
The issue with waiting until 3-4 y/o is that they almost never cooperate at that age and either (1) you strap them down screaming...which would be even worse from a flailing around and PTSD standpoint or (2) sedate them. And they typically would take longer to "figure out" how to move their tongue more and take advantage of the release. I personally find it very easy to perform the procedure in the office up to at least 9-12 months of age. Starting around 6 months of age, it's not unusual for a child to need tylenol and/or ibuprofen afterwards. Obviously, every physician has their own preferences or comfort level. If you don't like or agree with the first recommendation, I would consider a second opinion with someone in your area that might consider it at an earlier age.

Hi KG, I'm not an ENT specialist or a licensed Speech -Language Pathologist but, I am a registered SLP-ASSISTANT and I learned that the procedure isn't too invasive and it's definitely a choice because it isn't an evidence based practice. In fact, my speech clinic doesn't provide referrals for this procedure because of the high probability of re-attaching and no proven changes in expressive language abilities. I stand by anyone who chooses to do it and anyone who chooses not to. Go with your gut.
