Only 100 amps, is that enough to run everything in your house, my house has a 180amp panel and it's only 1800 square feet.

If you dont mind me asking how much should i expect to pay for this exact system?

No problem at all. It’ll vary with every situation as well as who you contract to have it done. I had to add a few extras to make mine work include about 125 feet of wire to make it to my power meter. I paid $10,500 for mine but that’s been a few years ago now. If I had to guess it would be a $12k install today with the way things have gone up. It’s great tho! It just got used a few nights ago when the winds came through from the hurricane. It’s a huge peace of mind knowing I’m covered. I’ve got 4 freezers on my farm full of meat that I’d hate to lose. I’m a lineman full time so one less thing I have to worry about when I’m away and my family is home. Thanks for watching!

Just got quoted $7900 for an 18kw unit installed (I already have a transfer switch).

That sounds about right. I'm not sure how much the transfer switch goes for by itself but it definitely saved you a little money. They are definitely an investment but dang it's worth it!

I wouldn’t own an air cooled standby generator. After 7 straight days, you’re on borrowed time

After 24 hours of continuous running you shut it down and check the oil. After 50 hours you change the oil. You must do the required maintenance to make it last just like your car.

I there are a lot of variables here to consider personally. For one do you even have enough fuel to run 7 days straight? Also what’s the climate like and does the unit have proper ventilation? Yea if you want it all out non stop for 7 days straight I think the unit would be definitely straining. I personally wouldn’t run it this way if it were me though. I’d want to conserve fuel if I thought I’d be out for a time frame this long. Most people are going to be hard pressed to afford something like this. Liquid cooled would be awesome to have but they come at a much higher cost based on my understanding. If you have the funds yea I would go liquid cooled all day long. I think economically though this is the better deal and it’s better to have something to rely on than nothing at all.
