Bought a Chinese carburetor for 28.00 shipped and it works good. Ordered the kit with it. My 4000XL was bought in the 90s and used in plumbing and repair of new homes and old homes.

Thanks for the video. The wild frequency readings were likely caused by dirty power (lots of spikes in the sine wave) and it's fooling the multimeter into thinking that it's running faster than it actually is. To check the frequency if you can't trust the Hz reading, use an inductive-type engine tachometer (one that runs a wire around the spark plug HV wire) to validate that the engine is indeed at or near 3600 RPM. I target between 3660-3720 RPM or 61-62Hz, unloaded. Assuming the governor is tuned correctly, the generator should sit around 60Hz once you apply some load.
@ChrisXOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Good info.. there’s also a big difference on what you are powering. I’d be more careful to make sure the Hz are accurate if I’m running a refrigerator, sump pump, etc. versus something like lights or fans.
@orlypalomar2 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisXOutdoors Agree. But the RPM will naturally sag under load so the pump, fridge, etc. should only see >60Hz for the time it takes them to start. It’s not ideal but it also shouldn’t cause any long term damage unless you’re feeding it crazy Hz. I often see 5-10% tolerance in both voltage and frequency on AC motor spec sheets.

Nagano (Japanese Company with a good rep) made all these engines on this briggs and generac joint venture. GN stands for Generac Nagano. Briggs was in charge of all except the engine that was Generac's responsibly and they contracted Nagano.

NP. They also made the 7550exl and the 7000exl models. Industrial untis. This is why they have oil filters. Works on a pressure system just the same as a car. MUCH BETTER then the splash technology you see on other units. This engine can run for days and has a longer life span because of the oil delivery system. I own 2 7550exl's and one 4000xl. Great units. I also converted all 3 to tri-Fuel. Pump gas, propane, and natural gas.

I'll bet the probes on the meter stuck in the outlet were causing fluctuations in the sine wave from vibration. Try taking a reading with a kill a watt meter that plugs in. I have this same gen, and it was revving high like a runaway, but I found out that the carb was shot and mixture was sketchy. A new carb $20 on Amazon and shes like new. Thanks for the video!

I have one of these, bought in late 90s. It has very low hours and starts fairly easily each time. I treat the gas always, but the current supply is old, though only a tiny bit remains. It only runs smoothly at half choke and surges a bit when taken off choke. What are the chances that fresh gas and some Sea Foam will clean out the carb? Suggestions? Liked and subbed.
@ChrisXOutdoors2 ай бұрын
It should do the trick. If not, you might have to pull the carb off and give it a thorough cleaning. Thank you for watching and keep me updated on how the seafoam goes!

Beer is the best type of payment. As far as I knew, Generac manufactures their own engines. And I even think those OHVI (Industrial) are American made. That looks like a mid 90s machine, before they switched to their orange scheme. But I'm just a hack so am more than likely wrong 🤣

The engines on the Briggs and Stratton generators look fairly similar to the one on the Generac. But it is possible that it could just be some Chinese clone of the Briggs like on the newer ones.
