What I hered is that General Echo was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Former P.N.P. COUNCILOR Clinton Davy O/C Jingles send a hit on big John because he owed him money and refused to pay him .I think I hered one of them did have a license fire harm in the car at the time.

This dj changed the way djs chatted on the mic so many djs come from his lineage he was a great story teller. Lone Ranger Ringo Welton ire Django Papa San Papa Levi Stitchie Yellowman Daddy Willie Papa Benji. Dirty Desi Desi B all these djs some you know some of them you don't know some are Jamaican some are UK based djs. But they can all trace some of their styles from this great originator his tapes in the late 70s were like gold everyone wanted to chat like General Echo. Years ahead of his time that's why he was so popular. Ringo took his style and became a great lyricist himself. The great Papa San took up the dj mantle in Jamaica and made a lot of djs start to write lyrics. If you can listen the Stereophonic tape with Echo at his best at Tavern in Jamaica 1980 it's a classic a very sad loss to the industry. Remember these djs chatted on the mic from midnight until morning and not repeating lyrics that is talent in itself. The nowadays djs are not capable of doing it. Trust and believe

General Echo was the real Ranking slackness from he was on Tippa Töne hi fi that i am Sure a Lot of people dont know about until He went in to stereofonic where He was King ,i must say that General Echo could DJ culture from Dusk Till Dawn at any given time with His great versatility and when IT comes on to slackness then He was 2nd to none Like brigadeer Jerry the one And only King of uplifting culture i must say that in those days that the dances used to be really really nice when man and Woman used to Dance with each other unlike today that IS so boring And sad with almost everyone making Selfies watching And showing Off on each other with the Men in one group And the lwomen in one group ☹️☹️

I was priviledged to have meet his mom at a serior citizens home . There were a lot of old feeble people living there . She spoke to me many times about her son Genersl Echoes music . She was so broken about what they did to him. You could see the love and sadness on her facial expression as she spoke . Wherever i made my visit to the home she was always there to greet me and tell me a story . I went one week and heard that she had passed . I can still picture her sitting on the bed all by herself looking out with a deep deep stare at the horizon . General Echo must have been her only son ....she died in that old people home a broken woman full of grief and pain ....... grieving for the lost of her beloved son . So sorry for your lost my dear ....may your soul now be at rest . Sleep in peace now .

Echo did a version but I think Zukie release it first in late 70s, but it don't mean dat him Originate it, Zukie, Welton & Ringo all use to Dj on Echo Tone, alot of them Pirate Echo Style, I hear Tullo T aka Papa Tullo did a full album with Echo Style. In dat time many Djs Pirate him Style and Record it. Mr Chin song was for a Dj from Mobay name Papa Ritchie but Yellowman Record it and became a bit hit. People hear it and think it's Yellowman Style, if you only listen to Radio and didn't go Dancehall you won't know these things. You will get it confuse.

Mr Salmon thanks for the information that you have given us. Some people who were eye witnesses knew of a fact what had happened on that fine an notable day but was refused to step forward to give evidence, why? Becsuse they were afraid of Loosing their LIVES, while some did not know what was the Real cause of the Entertainments Death. Those who are alive from that incident had taken place over the years from that day until now must just knowing the truth now as you revealed it. Most policemen are not in the police force for a purpose they are only there for the Position the Fame an the Money. You will wrong with others and those around you that are in favor of you give you right an set you free but if God doesn't set you free you are not free indeed. The Bible ststes that the Unjust shall still be Unjust. If a Man loose on Earth an in Heaven him nuh Gain, what a Lost.

Thank you for excellent work and insight. Another unnecessary, tragic, sad and extremely questionable episode in the history of Jamaica - way too many deaths and murders, particularly in relation to it's reggae artists. Yet again too many unanswered questions, and an event that resembles an assassination, slaughter and cover up. Sadly, numerous similar occurrences, stain the history of this little island in the sun 😢

Is it so? I don't know but something went down. Yellowman came on the scene the next year and remember, the music business is tricky.

Echo was shot dead by police in Kingston, Jamaica in 1980 along with selector Flux (who also worked on his Echo Tone sound system), and Stereophonic owner Leon 'Big John' Johns, after they had stopped the car they were travelling in. The incident has never been satisfactorily explained.

I think they were set up by someone who inform to the Police they were gunmen, this is why it became a cover up because there was no evidence to prove they were gunmen after they got murdered. You can see even the Death Certificate got fixed so no-one could be hold responsible for their Death, it was a big murder and cover up on those three People.

Echo did Record it also and he might be the Originator, but Zukie ver was a bigger hit. Every song you hear from a Dj all start in the Dancehall back then, it doesn't matter who Record as a bit hit, someone first have Originate it.
