I visited the great mans grave most sundays.As i worked in nearby Trier Germany.Just a short trip to Hamm.Iwas told Gen Patton wished to be buried amongst his men. A wish he got.But later had to be buried at the head of his men due to the amount of visitors to his gravesite.A truly beautiful resting place.🇺🇸

My father Captain Rex S. Morgan Sr. was put in charge of Patton’s funeral. Dad was the Army’s Chief of Mortuaries in the European Theater during WW2. He and his men were responsible for establishing cemeteries on the continent including the Luxembourg American Cemetery where Patton is buried. General Robert Littlejohn, Chief Quartermaster of the ETO and a close friend of Patton’s, called upon my father to organize Patton’s funeral. Dad went to Paris and picked out the best casket available. He personally prepared the general’s body for burial, dressing him in his beribboned Army jacket. (If you look in Patton’s pocket today you’ll find my father’s business card.) Dad appears several times in these news reels, notably walking in front of the casket as the pallbearers exit Villa Reima and walking behind the casket as it was carried to the gravesite. Hard to imagine but he had all that responsibility at the tender age of 24. Ten months later Dad attended the Nuremberg hangings and was charged with cremating and disposing of the remains of the top Nazis executed there. Hermann Goering & Co. had a much less distinguished send-off than General Patton to say the least. That’s a big story for another day.

We need men like General Patton today. He was a great leader. I wasn't born until 1948 but enjoyed studying history and WWII was my favorite. I worked with a lot of men who had fought in WWII and they were true patriots. Most men and women who were in WWII have passed on with few remaining. General Patton was a great General! The 761st Tank Battalion was a highly decorated black Battalion. They fought valiantly alongside General Patton at his request. They fought at the battle of the Bulge and numerous other military campaigns. From a proud Vietnam Era vet and proud American Legionnaire! 😊💯👍💪

As a nation, WE we're fortunate to have General Patton during WWII. He might've been too hard, at times, but he delivered to his troops, which he cared deeply for, and his commitment to the war effort was truly remarkable. He was a true soldier and a great general.

There's no such thing as "too hard" in war. That's why we haven't won a war since. We're too afraid of what someone will say if we're "too hard". And don't say we won Desert Storm because it wasn't a war. It was a battle we won, but we didn't finish the war because they said we were "too hard" on the Highway of Death.

MSG was devoted to the General and was sometimes a good personal advisor when General let fly his famous temper. A soothing and calming influence he was and loyal ( a trait the Gen admired the most) to serving him. Great men have great associates and confidants.

@@SsecnirpNamdor some of the bravest acts in WW2 came from blacks, native americans and japanese Americans. Most famous were the Tuskegee airmen - squadron of Af Am pilots who blew away the Luftwaffe in the air. Others were native American radio operators n wind whisperers who could hear enemy whispers n know their locations. A Japanese American brigade fought in Italy and were fearless warriors with tons of medals. WW2 showed the rest of the world that all races showed great bravery and courage and took lot of casualties too. But didn't get as many medals or recognitions

Had he lived past January 1st 1946 he most likely would have been, either Arlington or the West Point Cemetery, an equally honorable place. 1/1/1946 was the cut-off date for burials in American cemeterys in Europe, soldiers who died after that date were to be returned home. In fact there were plans to fly Patton home for treatment in Walter Reed Army Hospital but he died before the plans came to fruition.

He was a brave man, but his death was a sad accident. My maternal grandfather fought under John J. Pershing in WWI & in WWII he fought with Patton then with a different General. Pop loved Pershing. He thought Patton was a God & liked DeGaulle, but had no liking for the British General Montgomery. Why, I don't know. R.I.P., Dr. G.

My father is 99 and is in his last days. Did over 60 missions in the air corps. Said most U S. Soldiers could not stand the British because they were more worried about being proper and right all the time and marching for show than listening to reason. Said their attitude cost alot of unnecessary casualties among everyone, including their own.

I just lost my late father's first cousin (and wife 48 hrs before), who is been close to for 38 yrs. He was four months shy of 98 and served as a paratrooper in the Pacific, landing on and helping to retake Corregidor Island in Manila Bay. He was wounded in the process. I wish I could've a lot more of these guys, esp Patton.

My first awareness of Gen Patton was through the George C Scott's portrayal of him in the blockbuster "Patton". Since then I must have seen that movie over 25 times. He became my idol and read all books about him, his persona and his only motto - in war you take the battle to the enemy, there is no word called Retreat! Gen Patton was dead right about phony generals and great pretenders, and 150% correct about the threat of Communism to post WW2 world. I salute you General almost every other day for being the only TRUE soldier and patriot of WW2. May you rest in peace. You will be back on earth again as a leader and a General engaging in battle! George S Patton Junior was still on Active Duty as a Four Star General when he died and was entitled to a Military Funeral and Burial with all of the rights and privileges afforded his Rank and Position. Furthermore, The Pentagon and each of the service chiefs together with their staff officers make recommendations to the President and The Congress for promotions to various grades and positions based upon the Rule of Law and Regulations within the Military.

General Patton was a war general, not a peacetime general and even less a politician general, it is sad to say but he died at the right time. He would never have been able to adapt to life after the war. He died at the peak of his glory. RIP General!

En la primera guerra mundial tambien llamada la gran guerra a un simple oficial se le dio el mando de la primera division blindada por no la consideraron viable y porque queria que fracasase para seguir con los metodos tradicionales, Pero este joven oficial demostraria su valia y capacidad de mando ademas que la idea del tanque no solo es util sino que seria el futuro de la guerra lo que lo llevo a reconstruir el ejercito para que estuviera a la altura de los estandartes modernos comenzando un carrera que lo consagraria como una leyenda hoy dia Tal fue el impacto que provoco el general patton que en su funeral habian soldados y oficiales tanto aliados como enemigo e incluso sovieticos ,despidiendo al hombre que hizo lo imposible derrotar al ejercito nazi en su propio juego la guerra relampago a su manera lo peor fue quien dio la orden de matarlo se arrepentiria luego por que al final el general tenia razon sobre los rusos y las armas nucleares. Ademas en las (2) dos guerra venideras LA DE KOREA Y VIETNAM lo iban a necesitar porque el era capaz de hacer que los soldado no solo peleen sino que ganen con todo en contra. el mejor lider militar que hubo desde alejandro magno , julio cesar y u.s grant no habra otro como el carismatico , leal , valiente ,terco para rendirse, tenaz y lo principal hacia que los hombres fueran como el y aun mas lo que hacia que sus enemigos le temieran solo al nombrarlo y al final lo respetarna tanto que lo despidieron con honores militares. Cumplio con la promesa hecha a su suegro, patton traeria honor , respeto y fama a la familia a cambio el suegro se encargaria de las finanzas y el bienestar de la misma mientras el general patton lucharia en europa muchos dijeron que el final del general fue todo sorpresivo pero que tiene sentido los hombres que dirigio en vida lo haria tambien en la muerte , si el general invadiera el infierno sus hombres lo seguirian y de regreso. Ya que ningun comandante hacia lo que el luchaba , comia y dormia con sus soldados en el frente y asi saber de primera mano sus problemas y necesidades en la lucha , no como la gran mayoria de oficiales y generales que lo hacian a miles de kilometro detras de las tropas en una oficina tranquila y confortable Asi veian al gran general el unico que sabia bien como se debia luchar donde y cuando ,Ademas de que fue el hombre que construyo al ejercito de ESTADOS UNIDOS desde nada para ser lo que es ahora SALUDOS GENERAL

If he was murdered, then why was the truck driver who hit the Army jeep not charged or found guilty and in jail? The local police in Germany and US military police both investigated this and found that it was an unfortunate accident and couldn't pin any fault because of lack of evidence of any criminality. That's why you need to not jump to conclusions until you got evidence otherwise.
