You can also cancel directly into power counter or leaping thrust, after block>press dodge button that go into power guard stance. totally nullifying the power guard animation Haven't figured out the timing yet.

Amazing video, I played almost all weapons but always neglected Lance, what a mistake! It’s now easily in my top 3. Your videos are super helpful, wish there was more :P I’d just like to add that maybe let the texts stay on screen for a second or two longer. I’m a slow reader and had to constantly pause or rewind. Getting to the point where I only pack one point of guard and liberal use of Instablock and the leaping block attack(whatever that’s called) Anchor rage for the big hits. Really Love how the Lance plays in Sunbreak. Also getting better with my evade Lance set. It’s all coming together 💪

I’ve been trying out the hybrid evade lance set now with TU5 augments, if I can get the skills I want it should be crispy.

Great video thanks. I mostly use guard dash for blocking and attacking afterwards. I want to use counter thrust more often... How do I know when to use counter thrust and guard dash??

The short answer is it doesn’t matter. Counter will let you fit attacks in tighter windows. For example at 3:58 I was able to poke kushala twice with counter thrust, while if I chose any other guard I would only attack once. But then you could argue 1 guard dash +leaping thrust does more damage than 2 counter thrusts in Sunbreak. Counter thrust is also easier than guard dash to pull out on the spot. So if there’s a sudden attack and you are idle, counter is easier to perform.

Guard 5 guard up 3 embolden 3 defence boost dragon resist jewel. I don’t think I’ve ever timed out in sunbreak, so there’s no need to rush. I find it easier to do difficult quests solo
