As a black man who grew up watching the The Duke's Of Hazard and still a fan, when people started crying about the the flag, your show NEVER preached racism or hatred. The Duke's Of Hazard always preached right from wrong. I thank you and the show for being a great show.

Salazar Payne I say that all the time, the way these kids act now a days is an absolute, pure disgrace to they’re ancestors who actually had to deal with real racism and oppression, and actually fought for they’re freedoms that they have today, and they walk all over it like it means nothing. MLK would be devastated if he seen how things were today. If they’re ancestors seen today how loosely they threw that racism term around and played the race card for anything that hurts they’re feelings, everyone of them would get they’re head smacked off they’re dang shoulders by they’re own ancestors. It’s really a pure disgrace, it makes me absolutely sick and I’m not even African American.

I like that John's car is a driver. Updating the driveline, brakes, suspension, tires, and stuff.... makes a classically styled car ride and drive like a new one. Good mileage, ride, handling, power, ... gives you the best of both worlds.

Sir, as an Englishman from across the pond, I salute you. When the show was on British TV, every saturday was spent at my nans and this was by far the highlight of the day! Those 30+ years inbetween I've spent with cars and motorbikes and never forgotten the line "Straightening the curves, flattening the hills" what an absolute motto for life. You are a real gentleman and Fred the cat is pretty cool too. Many thanks for a significant slice of my childhood, cheers.

Hey bushmanpm , as a fellow Brit who also grew up watching the Duke Boys, your message brought back a lot of memories. I now live in Canada ad I'm still a huge Mopar fan. There's always a few General Lee's every year at the Mopar Nationals, and every year I think to myself, hmm, maybe I'll build one of those for next year......a man's gotta dream!! Anyway, good luck mate, and all the best.

When he said his steering wheel was not General Lee, my very first though was; How can it not be. Anything Bo or Luke does to a car called General Lee, is an offical General Lee. If he painted it pink with a rainbow flag it still would be a General Lee. Now we may have to call it "Bo's mental breakdown General Lee" However, we don't have to worry. I'm sure John would never do that.

I met John Schneider along with a friend of mine at a car show that was hosted in a park in LA in summer of 1998, if I remember correctly. We did not expect him to be there. I remember he was at a table with someone else selling General Lee die cast cars and there was a life size General Lee nearby as well. He was so friendly and down to earth that it was like talking to another car enthusiast, not a celebrity. Although, after initially spotting him there, we were like is that really John Schneider? Let's go find out, and we did.

As a black kid growing up it was Dukes, Knight Rider and then Miami Vice. I had the dukes of hazzard race track set with the little cardboard ramp in the middle of the track...good times man. Never got hung up over the flag on a car on a tv show about two dudes fighting bad guys.

When I was 4 and got my first bike it was the General Lee model. I loved it. I grew up in Ohio and not once did I think “I don’t like black people” or “I’m from the North, screw the South.” It was just a fun TV show. Of course, that was the 80s when we didn’t get hung up on things like that so much. I’m now in my 40s and have met thousands of people and have only met one racist. Yet today, they try to sell this story that racism is our biggest problem. It’s not. The politicians and the media selling that story are our biggest problem. When they try to divide us we need to reject them until they learn it’s not going to work.

The way I look at the changes, especially you're personal General Lee there John, is that most people that love to tinker and work on their cars are never satisfied, and continue thru the entire ownership of the car the change or modify it in some way. I do the same thing. The character of Bo (and Luke) clearly being big car guys in the south, would most definitely have been tinkering, modifying and upgrading stuff on the General Lee for as long as they own it. Seems like a natural progression that happens in real life.

Dead Purple Here's one for ya, I even got one up on John Schneider, earlier this year I got my picture taken sitting in the actual Sanford and Son pickup truck, and there's only one of them. It's in the exact condition it was when the show was filmed, if anyone's interested it's at a place called Blueline Classics in North Royalton Ohio, you can check it out at Bluelineclassics.com, they even sell cool T-shirts that have the logo from the driver's door on the front of them, picked up 3 of them when I was there. Having grown up in the 70's and watching that show it was the thrill of a lifetime getting my picture taken sitting in it, most if the surviving stars of the show have signed the dash and visors in it, coincidentally I happened to go there the day after Nathaniel Taylor died, he's the guy who played Rollo and his signature was on the dash and one of the visors.

John, growing up watching the Dukes of Hazzard was and will always be something special to me, the show and the values it portrayed were just as great as the car action that appealed to all kids from 79 and on through the 80’s. In 2018 my father passed unexpectedly from an off roading accident, we held his memorial service at a friends house in Lebec, Ca at a friends house tucked up in between 2 fingers of the mountside, with an incredibly long driveway to the house. I was completely unaware that it was your old house, where you lived during the filming of the show! It was a surreal moment in time, honoring my father at Bo Dukes house!! Serendipitously unreal experience for me and now cherished memory, because it felt right in a sad time.

Not being raised in the states, but did live in the south briefly when really young. I didn’t look upon the cross flag as John calls it to be racists. I only considered it as the flag of the confederacy, nothing more. It didn’t occur to me as being a symbol of oppression for a race of people. In fact in 1984 I bought a small confederate flag sticker and put it on the corner on my cars rear window. I looked upon it as my way of saying I am a rebel going against the mainstream flow. Nothing more. I do hope that anyone noticing it didn’t see me as racist. Enjoyed the video, thanks John.

He's wrong about Duck vs Duct tape though. It was originally invented by Johnson & Johnson's Permacel division during WWII for the military to fulfill the role as a purpose built waterproof tape, and thus adopted the name duck tape (like water falls off a duck). Only later after the war did people start using that massive surplus military tape on house ducts, for which it was very poorly suited and quickly dry rots. Aluminum tape should be used for duct work especially in areas with hot summers, and all manufacturers now warn against using that tape for this purpose. However, two things contributed to the misnomer: 1) One of the largest post-war manufacturers of this tape was Duck brand duck tape, and no one else could legally call their product "duck tape" like they did for copyright reasons. 2) Many people improperly used this tape for the application in duct work before it became common knowledge that its not suited for that, and other manufacturers of knockoff duck tape called theirs "duct tape" accordingly since it sounds similar. So "duct tape" isn't the original name, and its not a good name because it implies its well suited for duct work and its not.

the rear brake pedal is awesome, when I was young we used to clamp vise grips on the E-brake release, it was harder to reach than the custom pedal same effect as far as rear steering, bad ass, i always enjoy your videos, thanks much.

I have watched this a few times, I love that you have this car and are loose about the accuracy. It’s yours and I appreciate you did it your way, nice job 👍🏼

"Bo knows cars that GO!!!" Would be a cool series to do. The General was my very first favorite car when I was 4 or 5 watching you Duke's jump sweet jumps, and run sweet... soda pop lol. So seeing your car right now, as close as you are, in HD, almost brings me to tears. Wow! One thing, I do believe I seen a video with 1 of the guys (I believe it was the main guy) who used to work on the cars on the show. And eventually production DID start modifying 70s into 69s because they only made so many 69s and you guys probably went through so many, if the show kept going they'd need to figure out solution to a possibility of not having a guaranteed number of cars even available. I'm speculating on the details, the point is, you did in all likelihood drive a fake 69 (it even hurt to type that last sentence out, sorry).

I remember, some time in the 80's, they filmed a scene in Pacoima, CA, off Borden Ave and Gain where the car crossed a small field at the curb and slid back onto Gain St near McClay Jr High (it was called then). I am not sure if that little clip was ever used but I was so thrilled I got to watch a tiny piece of Hollywood

My first mistake was using a 1969 Dodge Dart, but hey the other folks in our trailer park loved it. I really miss that car. I couldn't afford a Charger but the Dart was fun and I painted it myself.

I grow up in Italy watching Hazzard during the 80s. Nowadays I am watching the same show with my small child. It's incredible how children love General Lee and the crew of actors. It's simply great to teach my son what's one of the best series of my childhood. Greetings John!
