General Stanley McChrystal (@stanmcchrystal) was called “one of America’s greatest warriors” by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Having held leadership and staff positions in the Army Special Forces, Army Rangers, 82nd Airborne Division, the XVIII Army Airborne Corp, and the Joint Staff, McChrystal became commander of JSOC in 2003, responsible for leading the nation’s deployed military counterterrorism efforts around the globe. His leadership is credited with the 2003 capture of Saddam Hussein and the 2006 locating and killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq. In June 2009, McChrystal received his fourth star and assumed command of all international forces in Afghanistan.
General McChrystal founded the McChrystal Group in January 2011, an advisory services firm that helps businesses challenge the hierarchical “command and control” approach to organizational management.
He is a senior fellow at Yale University’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, where he teaches a course on leadership, and he is the author of the bestselling leadership books My Share of the Task: A Memoir; Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World; and Leaders: Myth and Reality. His new book is Risk: A User’s Guide. He is also the co-host (with former Navy SEAL Chris Fussell) of the No Turning Back podcast, where they explore the future of leadership and teams with the world’s most consequential leaders.
Please enjoy!

While I loved the interview I disagree that misinformation is the big problem, I think the big problem is that one view is mandate on everyone and dissenting voices are "cancelled" or "silenced" just because they don't agree with the main narrative. I think we need to be more will to have open discussion from multiple angles and view points instead of trying to just push a political narrative and reviewing actual science and not the "politicised science" or "political correct view". He deals with this later on particularly his red teaming, or being open to different views even if you don't aggree with them.

So many surprising viewpoints from what people might expect to be a conservative individual. If Stan is conservative, it's only in the sense that he wants to conserve life, and people, and the wild-ass structure we call society. 5 stars for sure.

I'd like to hear opinions on risk when it comes to dating

What about dating? Sharing some vulnerable information about yourself? Committing to any long-term relationship?

@@samuelvilz thank you 🤗 My point was how to deal with the risk of meeting someone, who might harm. Devotion from one party doesn't guarantee the positive outcome
@jeremypiles1787

Maybe the lesson to mitigate risks of dating is to limit your vulnerabilities. Of course, with physical and social vulnerabilities, don't over-extend yourself. Protect yourself. With emotional risks, maybe better to take a page from Shakespeare and love with all of your heart. And, being hurt emotionally can only truly hurt you if your are vulnerable to being hurt. What can you do to reduce your vulnerability to emotional hurt, while still being fully emotionally present? These are questions that no one can answer for anyone else. Love is very personal.

@@NatalieZavizion Hm yeah, that's a good question. I agree with Jeremy that love is very personal and that the answer largely depends on both persons. I'd also add this: Hope for the best, and give the benefit of the doubt, but expect disappointment. And each time you "fail", you can try and see that not as something that weakened you, but as something that further braced you for the future. Ask yourself what you could learn from it. 🤔

@@samuelvilz one especially-threatening vulnerability in love is the extent to which you rely on your partner's love as a pre-condition to the love you can extend to yourself. Be your own best friend -- tough, but forgiving, and someone you can have fun with.

Interesting, how much pharmaceutical companies got income from selling such quantity of vaccines? I mean, they are making positive influence on health of society, but maybe a bit too much concentration on getting a lot of money?

Lies vs perception and reality. We deal in perception of reality. Not lies. So you only need enough needle to create the perception of winning. The rest takes care of it self.

Tim, I don't know if you'll see this but wanted to comment again about an amazing psychotherapy book and communication model titled "Non-Violent Communication". I would be elated to see you cover this, as it has helped me and all of the people I know who've read or used the communication model described within. I would love to share my personal experience of course, and I'm not afraid to dream of such a thing. Maybe one day.
