Thanks for the tour! It was nice to see the process for your current setup. One thing that surprised me is that you said O1 was heat treated to 57-58. I thought it used to be over 60. Maybe 8 years ago I had a Daily Chore and it was pretty hard. I have been doing O1 at 62-63 with excellent results. It is still plenty tough and holds a really good edge that competes with much more expensive steels. I wouldn't run it that hard for a knife that was going to see a lot of chopping and batoning. I don't think batoning is a smart thing to do but it is how a lot of people evaluate a knife. For crafts and small things it's fine.

For a 12-13 degree edge above 60 started getting some small chips so I stay under 60. This is my process I’m sure just about every other knife smith has a different method and goals.
