Great instructions! I'd a been lost without it (70 year old lady just starting out) You were right about the versatility of mountings on this sheath which makes it more usable when you need it! My snap doesn't quite reach across the end of the knife. I am hoping it will stretch a little to snap in, but since I will probably mount this upside down on my pack, it may not be needed, until I get to camp. Anybody else have that problem?
@newageselfreliance2 жыл бұрын
When I first got my knife the strap was tight. I just snapped it over the knife and left it snapped for a few weeks allowing it to stretch and it works really good now. I would rather have a strap that is too tight and needs to be stretched than a strap that is too loose and constantly worry about it not holding in place.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. The belt loop does fit through the main hole but when the snap closure is also on you aren't able to use a thicker belt. The belt loop becomes much shallower with the snap closer above it.

Keep the retention strap on top, then the belt loop below that, then you add a piece of low temp (-61°c breaking point) below that.

@the_guardians_of_the_universe6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying, I just now subscribed to your channel :) Yes I got the news about Garberg Black from one of the Morakniv's Ambassador on Instagram (I can't remember his name). A (high) carbon blade knife still not into my preference for now. I would stick to stainless steel blade for now, because of its resistance to corrosion, and therefore, for me it's safer to involve it in food/cooking cutlery. And, my preference for a carbon blade would be tramontina or another (high) carbon steel in form of parang/golok with 12-18 inches long. Because I lived in Indonesia which in tropical climate, the forest/jungles/mountains are often wet, the blade will likely to rust/corrode, but it's okay as long as I'm not processing food with it :) When you post the Garberg's comparison, I may get the KZbin's notification and watch it. Keep up the good work :)

I have just bought one of these knives, and am very pleased with the knife itself. I looked at the various bits supplied with the sheath system, and could not figure out how it works. Having watched your video, I sort of have an idea, but have stuck it back in the packet and put the knife in a leather sheath that I have, which fits perfectly. One day I might watch your video again slowly, and try to work out what to do, but to be honest I probably never will. It is just too complicated.
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
It is a very complex design but once you figure it out it is very easy to use. Honestly, I like just having the plastic case with the belt loop. I really don't need any of those fancy attachment system just to carry my knife around camp. Thank you so much for watching I really appreciate all the support!!!
@Embrabrummie6 жыл бұрын
My concern is that, should I try to use the multi-mount frame, and put one of the straps on incorrectly, the whole thing could fall off my pack, without my being aware of it. However, this is probably only a theoretical possibility. I live in Scotland, which has very strict knife laws, so would usually carry my knife in the plastic sheath in my pack, or, off the beaten track, just use it with the the belt loop. My leather sheath, designed for a "Boar" knife, fits the Garberg as if it were made for it.
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
The Multi-Mount sheath system is very secure. The button closer does slide from side to side so I don't suggest mounting it upside down if you don't have direct eyesight with your knife. If you like the leather sheath you should stick with it. Not worrying about losing your knife is gonna help you focus on much more important things.

I went with the stainless version. It was delivered yesterday. My only complaint...the handle is a little slick for my taste. What I did? I took my engraving tool, and etched lines across the top and bottom of the handle, perpendicular to the length of the knife, spaced about 1/4" apart. This has improved the grip by at least 30-40%. I think Mora could have done this in the molding process, just as they did with the checkering on the sides, without adding additional cost. If you find it a bit slick too, you might give it a try.Read more Show less Reply 1
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
I actually really like the handle on the Garberg. I find it very grippy and for a knife this size I don't feel the extra engravings are needed. You will have to let me know what you think about keeping it sharp. Keeping an edge on the Garberg seems a lot easier to me than some other stainless steel blades.

Very instructional! Thank you for this video. I've been looking at the Garberg with the MMSS for some time, and wondered how it worked. I just thought, you could use those holes in the sheath to mount a ferro rod with a kydex add-on of some sort. Just a thought. Keep it up!

Good video. I am hunting from a tree saddle (look that up) and the saddle would get in the way of me mounting my knife on my belt. So, I will probably use the multi mount to attach my mora Garberg to my backpack strap like you do. I do admit that the thought of pulling a knife from a sheath that close to my chest is a little scary. Have you tried mounting the handle up?
@newageselfreliance2 жыл бұрын
I have tried mounting the handle up, but it is much harder to get to. It also doesn't feel as safe because the knife's blade is by your face before you have complete control of it. If I was using it for hunting and didn't plan on taking it out of its sheath more than once or twice I might carry it handle up just so I knew it wouldn't fall out.
@lukepippin4781 Жыл бұрын
So something I thought about with the belt loop, I do like your self contained system when attaching it to the pack. Personally, I like the idea of keeping the loop on my belt. That way I could pop the knife off the pack and slide it into the loop without undoing my belt. Notice I said I like the idea. I haven’t tried this yet. It could become a snag point and end up breaking. Might be worth trying though.
@newageselfreliance Жыл бұрын
I do like that idea too. I also worry about it getting snagged on a branch or something or even worse me falling on it. The loop is strong with the sheath inside of it, but on its own, I don't really trust it.

awesome video and just what I needed. My Kansbol doesn't come out as easily as your knive does in the video when I have the multi-mount installed. The plastic sheath comes out of the multi-mount when I pull on the knife. Any suggestions on how to fix that or will it just get easier with time?
@newageselfreliance3 жыл бұрын
You have to push off with your thumb like a Kydex sheath. The handle on the Kansbol isn't as ridged as the Garberg so it is harder to pull out. Make sure your velcro around the sheath is as tight as you can get it and adjust it from time to time making sure it hasn't loosened up over time.

At 8:42, you show how to put the belt loop into the mounted holder. I do the same except turn around the belt loop (so it faces the bottom of the holder, and the loop is against the velcro molle strap. Push it up against the snapped-in strap holder, and put the Morakniv velcro loop just around the bottom side of the belt loop ring. This way, the loop is compressed between the case and molle velocro, and it is not showing open space on the tapered end of the knife sheath.
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
I actually do kind of that same thing only I don't flip the belt loop upside down. I put both the Belt loop and Snap strap holder through the big whole together. You can't fit a very thick belt through the belt loop this way. My Black Hawk Riggers belt doesn't fit through the belt loop this way but my EDC belt does.

You can also attach the multi mount to daisy chains (like those on Exped Thunder). Moreover: how often do you shake your knife and sheath upside down? Only in reviews like this, I suppose. The retention is good enough, in my view. Not like "kydex retention", of course - but how often do you need that?
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
I was just over exaggerating the shake your knife will experience when running. Kydex has a much better retention. The retention on the sheath is just two small nubs that fit into the cutouts of the handle.

Right there at appox. 2:16 where you are talking bout you need Both pieces to mount on the sheath. Try this; use 1 or 2 very small "Wire Ties" and put one on each side and that will hold. Maybe, just one really would be enough.
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
That would work I just wish Mora would have thought ahead and included it so you knew it was gonna hold up even when taking it in and out of the multi-mount sheath system. Thank You so much for watching I really appreciate the support!!!

One very small cable tie would work very well but then it wouldn't fit in the multi-mount.

I have a few Mora knives but I haven't got the Garberg yet. I'd like to have leather sheaths made for them when I can afford it. They work great as a secondary blade with a big chopper.
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
I have already preordered the Garberg Black which is the High Carbon steel version. It should be here around April. I'm really excited to compare the two.

wolf pack woodcraft I can't wait to see how it performs. I saw the preorder on Self Reliance Outfitters store. I wish I had the money for one right now but I'll have to wait til they release.
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
I really don't see what the Garberg Black can offer that the Stainless Steel Garberg doesn't already have. I'm guessing other than being able to strike sparks off the spine with flint it should be the exact same knife. Either way, I'm excited to have a High Carbon Garberg.
@jeffsmith64416 жыл бұрын
wolf pack woodcraft I wonder how quickly it'll rust. I mean I know it has a coating but it will wear off after a while.
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
The Mora Companion HD and the Bushcraft Black are high carbon and both are great blades. If taken care of High Carbon Steel should never rust. You just have to keep them clean and dry.
@carypeaden41472 жыл бұрын
Mora now has an accessory "Survival Kit for Kansbol/Garberg" knives that you can buy for about $29. It is "mounted on the knife sheath and is equipped with an integrated fire starter, diamond sharpener and reflective paracord." I don't think it will interfere with the multi mount.
@newageselfreliance2 жыл бұрын
I've seen that Survival Kit. In my opinion, $30 is a lot of money for a Ferro Rod and a course diamond sharpener. I'm guessing it's the exact same as what comes with the Mora Bushcraft Black. Which the Ferro Rod is really good but the Diamond Sharpener is too coarse for the basic upkeep of the knife. For the price, I would rather get a UST SparkForce for $9 and carry it in my pocket. amzn.to/3St8bEv You can sometimes find them at Wal-Mart too.

+Blade Girl the more I use this knife the more I love it. It feels like an expensive blade with a low cost price tag. This is going to be my main winter knife. Thank You so much for watching!!!
@swekiwi45174 жыл бұрын
I have to use two hands to draw the knife. Is that normal? Also the button to keep the knife secure in the sheet demands heavy pressure to lock and I have to use quite a bit of force to undo the button. It looks nothing like the easiness in the video to draw the knife or undo the button. Should I ask to try another knife of the same model? Also, great video. I can't find these instructions anywhere on Mora's own web page. You should be on it explaining how to use the multi mount system!
@newageselfreliance4 жыл бұрын
There is some retention to both the snap and the blade inside the sheath to make sure they don't fall out when you are hiking. I would test a second one to make sure they are the same but the tighter the better. I would hate for it to be to loose and fall out and have you lose your knife.
@swekiwi45174 жыл бұрын
@@newageselfreliance Thanks! I did just that and after I wrote my comment, ordered the multi mount system with the knife (Kansbol) and it was delivered to my doorstep by 6 am(!). I had the Mora Black Buschcraft knife at home as well. It felt very unbalanced BUT I was able to remove it as easily as you could of your Kansbol in the video. So I might think there was something wrong with the one I got. I'll try the new Kansbol I just got today and let you know. Thanks for the tip!
@swekiwi45174 жыл бұрын
Okay. I've just tried the "new" knife (same modell and everything but from another store) and there _is_ a bit off difference. This one IS easier to remove with one hand. The other one was like trying to draw the "sword in the stone"-sword. Maybe you've also used yours for a quite a while, making it easier on removing and replacing it in the sheathe. Thanks again for a great video!

Hi, I wanted to know what is your vote for this 14C28N steel for bushcraft / survival knives? Thanks Michele
@newageselfreliance6 жыл бұрын
I actually really like it. I think for a beginner the Garberg is one of the best options out there. Being able to practice almost everything and not having to worry about having the experience of a carbon steel blade makes this blade a very good option for anyone. I really enjoy using the Garberg SS. I did just receive the Garberg Black which is high carbon steel so stay tuned for a review on that as well.
@redoak38094 жыл бұрын
I wanted an aftermarket leather sheath for my Garberg, as I don't like the design of the Mora one. I bought this version knowing that so that I would have even more versatility. I like the idea of mounting on shoulder straps, however, I don't really like pointing the knife up toward my face and neck AND I would still want to keep a belt knife securely fastened onto my person.
@newageselfreliance4 жыл бұрын
Once you get your custom leather sheath you can keep the leather sheath on your belt and mount the stock sheath to your pack. That way you can carry the one knife but always have it on your person. thank you so much for watching I really appreciate the support.

I'm not sure what you should buy? Do you prefer a sheath that can be mounted in different ways? The sheaths that come with Mora knives are good as is. This Multi-Mount sheath is just for people who like having options. I prefer the Stainless Steel. I made a video talking about the difference, you can watch it- kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5SyqXd8rcaiars
