Hey guys, this is the intro to my video Strategy Guide of Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War: SoulStorm featuring Gameplay with Live English Commentary! In this video I go over General Strategy, Tips, and Tricks for the game! Think of it as a beginners guide!
Note - My harddrive with the scripts for the other guide died shortly after making this video. That's actually why you may notice the occasional slight stutter in the recorded footage, it was my harddrive on it's last few weeks before it died. I wasn't able to back anything up in time and my repair guy couldn't salvage most of the data in time and it died pretty hard. I will still probably do the faction guides one day, but it won't be soon. I'm too busy with the rest of my channel.

That was a really good video man. Very good information and a pretty accurate analysis on the importance of each second and the tiers. I understand the data loss for the factions guide but i'll wait patiently for them to come if you ever get around to them. You've more than earned a sub for this video alone! A few pauses there or here, fair and consistent documented segments and put together to redeem this Warhammer 40K saga. This video reminds of how cool this series actually was all the while. Beautiful fields and plenty described to haul in the draft to a more professional physique. Good job or work there also. Would jump in the forum for this should it be available. I mean right now I'm living in a one room apartment with my also disabled mother, life has been rough. I just signed a lease for a new place the other day after a year here, and am moving out soon. Hey man! New sub here! So I just discovered you today! I've always been a fan of DOW and RTS games in general. In fact, my gaming started way back when I was a little kid playing RTS games all day every day haha. I am now 17 (Turning 18 in a few months' time), and I still have my love of gaming. Over the course of my gaming time, I have branched out to other genres, which tactical shooters are a strong favourite. I have a love for games that involve strategy and tactics, which keeps bringing me back to RTS. I have recently picked up DOW again and was hoping to improve my game drastically, and I stumbled upon your channel! Very enjoyable, I had no idea about some of those tips. I usually (when playing Orks) spam out a couple of generators and start trying to cap points. Immediately making a Boys Hut never occurred to me. No wonder I keep getting smashed :D

I finally figured out why I suck at dawn of war. I kept making tier 3 units at the beginning of the game which made me lose instantly. Tier 3 comes too late. You must create tier 1 units first which you have to use for conquering requisition points and then after you built enough listening posts you can make vehicles and other advanced units.

I've been playing RTS games for years, and I was and am still blown away by how deep this game really goes. I thought AoE2 was a complicated RTS but I've been finding DoW so much more difficult. It feels so good to have a challenge like this again, and I appreciate the videos as I've found myself stuck. I think I simply play to slowly. I could never figure out if playing fast and aggressive was better than playing slow and methodical, but you cleared that up. Can't wait to watch the Eldar guide!

Most players when new to any RTS tend to play slowly and boom so they can have 1 huge fight somewhere and essentially that battle decides who wins. Rarely are there any comebacks. Also I just reccently play this game as well, and coming from someone who played Company of Heroes 2, my mind is hard-wired to hotkeys that correspond to the keyboard. Like Q W E for first row, then A S D for 2nd, and so on. It troubled me how there's no option to rebind the hotkeys so I'm stuck with mouse.

I just had a match that lasted 3 hours against a Chaos AI (in normal cuz i suck) and its army was HUGE and really durable and strong, but i managed to make my Tau's destroy 2 of its bases and leave him in its main base so i got a Take and Hold victory and it was painfull but the end was worth it ;) (i'm still trash tho but hey i won so who cares)

I just bought this game and I'm rather new to RTS as a whole. I grew up playing some of them but never really became gold at them. I enjoy playing chaos, I play against harder Ai difficulty and can normally win by having a bunch of space marines maybe one raptor squad and my chaos lord... But I know AI is nothing like an actual player, I intend to learn the keys so I can save time but for now. I intend on getting the game for my bro as well and we are gonna okay together so maybe that'll help idk, but I hope I can get better

my problem with using hotkeys in this game is the fact that you can't change them. I know most of the hotkeys for my tau army and use them a bit (not as much as possible or recommended) but they are located all over the board... it would be easier to be able to change to anything I'd like, so I would go for the numbers 1 to 9, then shift + the numbers and some basic commands

I tend to find against the AI, Late-Game is where I start experiencing sensory overload and I just can't keep up with the macro-management of massive armies like the AI can.

Don't move your vehicles and infantry together. The vehicles block the way of your infantry and trap them while the others move ahead.

i still remember that game ... we started fighting on top of the map but his forces had splited and i crushed them easily after that i rushed the base with my vehicles and went on an infantry fight grey knights and 2 heavy bolter squads vs 1 possesed and 1 khorne berseker my heavy bolters came in melee range on their own and lost the whole fight ... my vehicles were caught and secs after chaos prince and bloodthirster broke my base

The Dawn of War series is a great RTS, but the unit control isn't as solid as I would hope, but that's kind of why I enjoy it. The game has incredible solid macro and, gives the player something to be more skilled at than their apponet. Sure having both unit control and macro balanced out within the game would be better, but that's just asking too much from a game with the units being squads, and not singular soldiers like Starcraft. This game is very suited for map control also, so that's fun.

I always end up with all of my moves to capture points failing and end up with a fortress, 4 captured points, and a 30-40 minute long siege that leads to me losing with the highest kill count (usually 600-1000)

Is it worth reinforcing a squad or just better to que up a new one?

Renforcing costs less than building a new one, that's why loosing a squad is often a bad turn of events. A Space Marine squad is 220 reqs with 50 reinforcing cost, you realize that adding 4 more members for 200 reqs is better than building a new squad. Necrons with free warriors is an exceptionnal example for early game. BUT in some cases, having more squads is better. For instance,you want multiple squads of Dark reapers as Eldars early on, so if the enemy engage one of the squads in melee, micro this squad (make it run, with fleeter foot it's even better) while the other squads are shooting at the engager. This is pro level tho

It require a lot of ressources to build all that, and for example Necrons with pariahs + monolith and some flayed ones costs less, and can deal with such an army easily

I'm not sure I understood your question, but I think it's the shift key. If you maintain shift while clicking to build, your servitor will build the constructions in that order

vanilla: whore out your fire warriors and support them with vehicles UA: stealth suit armies can wipe enemies off the map early. whore out the fusion blaster for building-buster squads. late game: fire warriors and shield drones with elite hazard suits. there's a commander unit in a hazard suit who spawns a bodyguard of specialist broadsiders. he's OP. If you can get your max range asap, even necrons won't beat you.

dude can you tell mewhy this happens to me ? i play asthe space marines vs hard imperial guard i control half the map and he goes on a full scale attack on me and he wins guardsmen killed my marines while in heavy cover and he hadfew losses dude i had heavy bolters ... after watching this vid i went full offensively on the imperial guard and i ruined his day after that i was vs chaos i destroyed his defilers in the fight but lost the infantry battle after and lost the game in the end
