Drama diluted how manipulative the ML and king both were to FL and to everyone else in general.There was no fighting because empress is mild matured and had accepted the fact that the consort is the one who is loved while she was just there. Consort was courteous to her but she was the one with real power anyway. ML pretended to support the eldest brother but he was actually always plotting against him in favour of consort's son. ' ML is quite manipulative towards FL too. FL was lucky that he took fancy to her otherwise he would have killed her when she accidentally heard him while he was plotting against the crown prince during the hunt. He pretended to save her and all but he was one of the conspirators she had listened to.

The truly beautiful part of that scene is not only Ling Buyi popping up in the bed, but Emperor Wen KNOWING he was popping up without even laying eyes on him. It shows how in tune the Emperor was with his "son." Every aspect of this drama was hitting on all cylinders -- my favorite Cdrama of all time.

Definitely. I especially loved the way he'd spit when he talked when he was truly in a fit of rage. Perfect scene when he flies into one of those fits once he discovers that Zisheng and Shaoshang are getting married in Hua County and Consort Yue makes one attempt to reason with him then walks into Yongle Palace and closes the door on him. Perfect.

If you do than you might be familiar with the giant bow that set's in the back of the outfit. Nowhere in Chinese history of known ancient clothing has that. Women from certain past dynasties, such as Sui, Tang, Bei-Song, did tie little silk bows in the front, but nothing of that size. The costume designer for this drama got dragged by Chinese netizen's for stealing from a Japanese design and fusing it to the outfits for this drama, which sets in a historical time period around the mid to late Han Dynasty. A period long before current mainstream Japanese traditional clothing even existed.

Me too . For a female lead who has been abused by her aunt a lot , she should have mastered survival skills , would be a keen observant and would be smart. She should be able to fight atleast . But in the drama,the female lead lacks observation sometimes , doesn't like to exercise, doesn't know how to swim etc
