The Unexplored Secret Area On Sacred Icon In Halo 2

On the mission Sacred Icon in Halo 2, there's a secret unexplored area that's barely ever used in game but contains a lot of interesting sections that might be cut content from Bungie's older plans for Halo 2. Let's explore it for the very first time!

It could be that the last grav lift and unused area actually would lead to the cut warthog run instead of all the way back down

It’s more likely that the leftover area is actually a remnant of a earlier layout idea for the the last section of High Charity, you would’ve probably instead exited from one of the doors on the sides that lead up to that area, to which only serve as flood spawn points and instead the main grav lift from the council chambers was cut down from the one found in the cutscene for Sacred Icon because it was just more unnecessary hallways

This BSP Reminds, of (high_8) in High Charity, which ofcourse is an early version of the council chamber. In has everything, the Gravemind Tall Turning Tunnel, the Elvator hallway at the end, and the "shield door" elevator, which doesn't open. I think they ported high_8 and used it for the cutscene in Sacred Icon. Also, unlike final the courses are three honor guard brutes and two dead grunts. High_8 was probably used before the outer council chamber fight was finalized, and the council chamber was added to high_7.

Well BSP8 directly commects to the end of BS7 (before entering the Inner Sanctum) so, it looks like this was the original layout and was changed down the line. When the changes happened they put the Inner Sanctum in BSP6 and cut the set of hallways before it and after entering the elevator (so it leads you to the final area). Very interesting stuff

Is the Prophet sanctum from Halo 2 one of the only physical locations to appear in a later Halo game? Im wracking my brain and I cant think of another example of somehwee you visit in one Halo then revisit in a later Halo, the closest we get is the rebuilt Halo control room

You visit the council chamber too. In Cortana after the first Gravemind scene where you drop through the floor the room you drop into is the council chamber

@LMG3000-s8f I heard about that but I don't buy it. The Halo 3 version isn't big enough. Looks like a large meeting chamber, but not the one from Halo 2

@@legobi_wan_kenobi It IS the council chamber though. If you go to the edge of the room where the "window" is on the floor you drop down on you can look down and see the sliding elevator platform present at the start of the Gravemind mission in Halo 2. It just seems much smaller because much of it was destroyed or is caked in Flood biomass but that part is definitely recognizable. You can also see the Mausoleum of the Arbiter by looking out into the distance from the Pelican.
