I did a little digging on this if people are curious. This button is a 'temp_door_switch'. This one in particular is named 'lift_a_control'. It is never referenced in the scripts, so it has no functionality. At the end of the mission, the switch is obviously in the void, but its coordinates align closely with the first lift you come across at the start of High Charity. This was likely a temporary switch for the devs to test the lift functionality and it was just left behind!

Thanks to the Digsite leak, we have the level geometry for where these switches are located. They were used to activate elevators as a placeholder before bungie programmed in gravity lifts. High Charity was also split into two missions. What you are looking at is a switch from the beginning of Gravemind, at the first gravity lift where you fight the brute captain.

Microsoft is also taking down videos showing videos of the leak, although they are weirdly selective with what content gets taken down. Halo 1999 and 2000 builds seem safe but not halo 3 stuff. No idea where Halo 2 content falls in.

General doesn't answer most people. Probably Digsite Early version of Gravemind/High Charity leak. Everyone was looking in the wrong place. Also, 2 weeks ago, someone talked about the rest of the hidden switches on his old hidden Switch HC video, with the rest being hidden in geometry or on gravemind, not HC. The button was probably intended for the Prison grav lift before it was automated & now deloaded into a new BSP when the level was split into two. Unseen Halo,Hunterunt, Pstenci etc are doing the real work unlike General,Xperia,Follower,Sloth etc here who just post 5 mins vids & disappear until something cool is found by someone else. Bet he just looked up the Elevator button Coords, no credit to finder either, just misinformation. Doubt this is the last switch we can reach too considering he said that very same thing years ago too.. He doesn't even reply to most comments talking about undiscovered/Unrecognized features like i.e Heretic Banshees on The great Journey or Delta Halo/Sacred Icon Time travel glitches & More! Dude didn't even notice half the crazy changes in the e3 demo while giving comentarty. 😂 Just the same reuploads every few years 😂

All coords are available too as all switches are named or well categorised even with the missing tags. Shame General has lost all passion for og Halo content otherwise he would have explained this like he used to loooong ago.

There will be an area where you can clip through a texture and see the entire map layout in anniversary graphics. You can also see by the gravity lift 2 versions of the Inner Sanctum of the Hierarchs. One is the version you go through in the mission, and the other is grey scaled. I assume that one is the cutscene area when the prophets task Arbiter to "retrieve the sacred icon." But perhaps you can wall-clip and see it in classic graphics?

There’s 3 switches I’ve found on this mission but nothing happens. When I found this 3rd switch my heart dropped thinking this was it 3 out of 3 usually does something but NOPE. KID is right, these switches have no use. Bungie just decided to take them and move them really far away from player interaction rather than simply deleting it…. Instead of hiding it deleting it would be so much faster so I don’t understand WHY leave them if they don’t do anything?
