GeneRally 2 Demo - Unboxing And First Impressions

GeneRally 2 is actually happening? After all these years! Let's try out the demo. We'll jump into it totally blind, I have never touched this demo before this.
This will be the successor of the famous top-down racer, GeneRally from 2001. With it's brutally aggressive AI, incredible physics, totally free customizability, a track editor with only your imagination as the limit, the game was and still is my favorite top-down racer of all time. The bar has been set terrifyingly high, will GeneRally 2 be able to make it?

I always kinda thought that the General -car in GeneRally had a kinda similar feel to it you have in Grand Prix Legends - fun to slide but very important to find the sweet spot for keeping momentum. Really hope this game is going to make it, the original one is hard to beat.

I played Generally back in early 2010s and I love to see the sequel is finally here after years of talk and development. I rarely play Generally anymore but I do still open the game and let the AI race. It's still fun

this is the firsttime i see a top view racing game where you can actually see the whole track. kinda clever approach.

A lot of older top down racers did not scroll. Super offroad, Indy heat, Super Sprint, Slicks`n`Slide

Hopefully it live up to its predecessor, as a former trackmaster on the forums track making was my bread and butter, and the new track editor looks great and in the keeping of GR1. I tried the demo, but my laptop couldn't cope with it (lol) despite Circuit Superstars running fine. Will have to try it on my gaming PC. Its great news its finally progressing, just a shame it took so many years of inaction.

Yeah the bar is pretty damn high, but it didn't feel too bad so far, although the demo is just scratching the surface. Track making was one of my favorite things back then, nowadays I just drive. But the editor felt really good and it's awesome you can test the track on the fly instead of jumping back and forth between the editor and the game! If you have performance issues you can give them feedback, they really appreciate all the info they can get.

I remember watching the original video, it actually got me into generally and making tracks for the game, and I've been doing it ever since thank you so much :D

I think everyone thought this was dead but I guess they've been tinkering with it in the shadows :D The community got pretty frustrated back in the day when there was no progress.

Wow this reminds me of Slick n Slides which is from the 90ies. I just don’t understand how I could have not played this game. Looks fun though. Thanks for sharing!

Ahh, good old Slicks 'n' Slide! I'm scared to even think how many hours I spent with that game back in the days!

Honestly I'm looking forward to this game's development, especially since this is the early testing phase they have right now. I'm testing it as well but the one I'm using is of a lower-end spec. I'm curious on how things will turn out for the lower-end specs for this game. And oh boy, the Track Editor is miles, miles better! Never again you need to run TE and GR back and forth just to check whether there's a small gap between walls or not, you just need to see and test it on the fly!

Yeah agree, the track editor is brilliant! One thing I hope that this will be compatible with old GR tracks a well. They are considering at the moment.

I always use the World Circuit controls as well for some reason. A, Z, , is basically the first thing I set up in any of these games. I hope GeneRally 2 lives up to expectations, it looks fun like the first one, but this terrible frame rate and performance in such a simple looking game is kind of worrisome.

In the Finnish keyboard there's point and comma where there's < and > in the standard keyboard, so that's my "World Circuit" controls. Aka. the only acceptable keyboard controls for any racing game :D But yeah, early days for this one, we'll see how it develops. For me the most important thing is the physics, the original Generally was almost perfect, I hope this manages to deliver.

I don't know, it didn't feel too bad compared to vanilla GeneRally 1. But too early to tell, I'm sure it'll improve and they said they already have cars that behave a lot more like in the original GR. I've seen some Generally Polska videos on KZbin, I'll have to check out the mods! Thanks for the tip :)

I downloaded this game and tested the demo and the gameplay is horrible, the gameplay of the old one is much better. If continue like this they will assassinate generally 2 as it is unplayable.
