Really outstanding David. Some of this comparison reminds me of the days of Drupal vs Joomla. Generate is more flexible but more work and planning, like Drupal. Kadence is more pre-built but with constraints like Joomla. Maybe Stackable is the option that is like Wordpress in this analogy due to the community focus. Sort of. Either way it's a great discussion. Thanks again.

Wow, that was a great comparison, thanks! I'm constantly watching the market, although I already used / tried Oxygen, Bricks, the new Pinegrow WP plugin, Cwicly, Greenshift and a few individual blocks. I must admit that One-Fits-All I have not found yet. There are new CSS commands and possibilities month after month and it's just hard to map them in a suitable way via a UI - often I would find a direct input of css with autocomplete much more efficient and faster.

@@rodlivz I would say it depends on how much control you want and how well you understand CSS. With Cwicly, Oxygen and Bricks you can basically implement everything. Of those, I find Bricks the most intuitive and it's getting more and more important as a page builder. Currently I'm trying Gutenberg FSE and it's definitely not enough for me for more complex pages. It is also not very intuitive (for me) and there are too many automatisms under the hood. But for Blogs and non perfect sites a good choice. I extend Gutenberg Blocks with my own CSS (SASS) that I integrate via WPCodeBox. You can still build complex websites via a classic WordPress theme in combination with Gutenberg (without FSE), but it's a more tedious and slower process.

Brilliant, thanks for the succinct answer. Been wondering whether to make the switch from traditional website builders to Gutenberg however I'm torn between Stackable, Greenshift and Spectra. Any advice on these?

@@rodlivz Have tried Stackable and GreenShift but no clear favorite. In GreenShift you can now set a lot, but take a look at the UI yourself, whether it is not too crowded for you. Both have advantages and disadvantages, in the end it's always a question of how much you want to achieve with how much effort. I would also look at the community and support - and also how quickly bugs are fixed.

Great video. Just to add regarding your comment how "I do not want to stop to create the composite block" ...this is why you have the Local Patterns in GB. You building your stuff at the moment you are building the design. Later when you are making your content, you have, what is basically a UI kit ... and everything goes super fast.

@@DavidMcCan Yep. I am too. Also I might add. As time is goind I have started to realise my initial idea for even entering the visual building tools at all, which was to build sites faster, is working. Building sites with GP/GB is very fast. The fact you have so simple tools with not many options, means you learn it all by heart fast. And you know each blocks ins and outs. As a result, I built two, not complex but pretty non-standard designed custom themes, in 8 days. Both. This was impossible with underscores, wprig etc.

You are doing some great work here including other videos. One area I was confused was the edge to Generate Press for utilizing Full Site Editing. Kadence has its own Theme editor that is way ahead of WordPress FSE. Of course, you need to use a Kadence Theme. Thanks so much for these videos!

Yes, Kadence has a theme builder and so does GeneratePress. They are similar.

@@ARNBNDL - If you have the full Kadence bundle it includes Kadence Shop Kit. Otherwise, Astra / Spectra has a lot of templates.

If you have the full Kadence bundle, it includes Kadence Ship Kit. FSE stands for Full Site Editor.

I'm sure people do it. Sometimes the blocks from one collection don't work in the container from another collection, so I'd watch out for that. I guess the only real issue is if you change your mind later the more 3rd party blocks you use the more work to switch.

Are you sure about the Meta Box integration in Stackable? The website lists only ACF and Toolset. Generate Blocks might not have a dedicated integration with Meta Box, but I was able to select basic custom fields, which are also supported in the WordPress core.

Yes, they announced it about a week ago. wpstackable.com/blog/stackable-integrates-with-meta-box/ Most text / simple fields work, but I figure that I'd like my choice to be officially supported in case I run into any issues.

With page builders? No. You could use the pro page builder for creating the theme templates and pages and Gutenberg for post content. I wouldn't put blocks from one Gutenberg addon in the container block of another Gutenberg addon.

Here's the irony I'm about to so a presentation for a WordPress BlackPress and WordPress Social Learning group via Meetup and my topic is wireframes and advanced blocks where I'm going to demonstrate Kadence. However due to the WordPress rules I have to recommend 2 - 3 other alts. I chose Generateblocks, Stackable and Spectra. I've already created comparison charts, etc. So this is even more helpful. I'm going to mention you in the presentation if I utilize any of your perspective or observations. Btw this is Maestro Stevens and I love your tutorials. They inspire me and give me great insight.

Yes, more light weight and performant. Divi has a lot of design features going for it. It is generally harder to achieve those with blocks, so the choice may depend somewhat on your audience, client, and skills.

These are all block-based. These are all simpler options. Bricks has many more features and is more powerful, but you wouldn't use Bricks to create blog posts.
