A distinctive unique ship is a liability for a bounty hunter. IMHO The best bounty hunter ship would be a heavily modified *Corellian light freighter.* Because it doesn't advertise that a _Bounty Hunter is in town._ Slave 1 lands at the local starport and everyone who has (or suspects they might have) a bounty on them knows to be on their guard. And the starport will just be buzzing with the news of the Fett's arrival - it would get in the way of the mission, your target would be alerted, and they might run away under another identity before you can track them down. There's also the risk that someone would blow up your ship as you came in to land, as a preemptive strike. Or even just trash it on the ground while you're away, to inconvenience you. And thus it is the same when the Razorcrest flies in, those in the know know (!) The Mandalorian is arriving to do business. And if you are the business.… Instead something like the Outrider (the smallest), the Ghost, or the Millennium Falcon, with some holding cells and hidden ion weapons would be perfect. Locals would just assume you're another quasi legal freighter/smuggler and you can keep a low profile while tracking your target, who you can catch off guard with a planned ambush. Even keep a little cargo capacity to aid your cover (or to do a little "high value" work on the side…), while you find the mark. And for in-space interceptions, it once again catches the target off guard, as what appears to be a freighter just passes by and then unloads with ion weapons disabling the ship. Otherwise when a famous Bounty Hunter in their custom ship lands, before they've gone to the local bar a smart target will be getting passage offworld while wearing a environment suit and pretending to be a alien from a non oxy/nitrogen planet.
@xarsta4 жыл бұрын
The fatal flaw in what you bring up is those freighter ships although commonly seen required a ton of maintenance and addons the falcon for example had more extras on it than it could safely hold having one of those ships required lots custom features to make them useful for bounty hunting they don't start out fast you'd need a whole new engine and require a minimum of 2 people to pilot it and more than that to operate the guns on it it would be like taking a minivan to street racing lots of the notorious bounty hunters have unique ships it's never been a thing to worry about your ship getting vandalized when parked at a spaceport they tend to have strong security in those areas you don't really have to worry about your ship scaring off the bounty because tracking fobs and other ways to locate the targets they try flying away easier to shoot down as well as being already in the place where the targets ship is docked

Off topic, suggested topic. How should Mon Motha and the New Republic have behaved after they won, if they were being pragmatic but didn't have a crystal ball (or a leaked copy of the script). And would it have stopped the First Order becoming so powerful. IMHO instead of de militarising, invest in a new line of anti pirate patrol ships to keep order, using automation to keep crew requirements down, so they can supply _a lot_ of them without needing massive manpower. Not designed to intimidate a planet, but to protect it from riff raff, and police a system. That would stop some of the populace reminiscing about the stability of the Empire, and thus throwing in with the First Order.

I like to beleive someone found a wrecked LAAT and stripped it down realizing the Air frame itself was undamaged and then built the razor crest up as a project based on the frame, they would havw had a blacksmith and machining shop plus parts from other ships around and stock components so on so forth thus making a practical short range hauler and defense craft for there operation. Mando purchased the craft from them at discount due to its older components and the airframe probably having some cracking and other damage built up over the years. That explains it’s size and shape.

There’s a long history of military companies using military designs for civilian use, Willy’s MB became the CJ2A, Volkswagen’s Thing, the Mercedes G-Class, C141 became the basis for the 747. I think it’s very plausible for it to be based, at least inpart on the LAAT. That was my first reaction to seeing it. I don’t think it’s close enough to call it a variant of the LAAT but more like the C141/747 scenario. It clearly had some combat application in mind, though who’s to say those may not have been aftermarket modifications. But you can buy law enforcement versions of plenty of cars and trucks now.

@tadecker824 жыл бұрын
If I had to guess, the Razorcrest was likely a Kuat design, built for Clone Commandos, to board and capture larger ships, as demonstrated in (SPOLIERS) "The Mandalorian": Episode 6. It's speed, forward facing heavy weaponry, and internal jamming suite, makes it ideal for hijacking larger ships, with it's commando detachment (Think Somali Pirates using speedboats to hijack tankers/freighters). The Razorcrest is probably a rare sight, even in the outer rim, and is probably most well associated with pirates, preying on merchant transports.

Nice video. The front end cockpit and nose section are almost identical to the Variable Altitude Assault Transport/enforcement by Rothana Heavy Engineering. Since the parent company of Rothana is Kuat, it's fairly consistent with what's established. Rothana's main focus was Heavy construction vehicles for mining. It appears that at some point they branched into defense designs by re-purposing their already heavily armored engineering vehicles into something that the Galactic Empire could use. So in regards to the Razor Crest, were it previously a mining transport, it would have had space for equipment as well as enough area to sit a team of miners. Or if it were the equivalent of an earth mover, than the 'cargo' area would have been made to store ore. Given that there are several ships that have container docking features, i will stick to the previous premise that it could have been a transport and then outfitted with the additional needs of the bounty hunting business and weaponized.

OK new theory: What if they based the LAAT design off of Mandalorian dropships like the Razor Crest, in the same way the Mk I armor was based off of Mandalorian armor? They highly modified the Mandalorian design to better suit the needs of the GAR; trade range and power for weapons and cargo. The Mandalorians may need space-capable ships to move troops, the Republic can use cruisers for that role.

The LAAT is more of a derivative of the Razor Crest-type ship, as the Phase 1 Clone Armor is a derivative of the Mandalorian Armor.

Will try and find the source but someone was claiming that the Razor crest was originally a Mando hypernautics design that got jacked by Kuat during some corp dustup. If this is true there might be several reasons why it is prefered by the lead char in the Mandalorian. 1 Mando designed and built ships are rugged and tough to kill. 2. very versatile and adept at the multi-role function needed for this sort of career. and 3. pure nostalgia.

Razor Crest was a mass production ship brought by planetary defense forces in the old republic. Every planet had to defend itself. There was no Grand Army of the Republic. It probably was a reasonable price, trooper transport. That many planets in the outer and middle rim can afford. Razor Crest can provide aerial cover for ground troops and help fight against enemy ships. Not everyone could make their own defense force ships like Alderaan. The one used in the Mandalorian has upgraded with aftermarket guns. That what I think of the ship.

perhaps it was a prototype for the replacement of the LAAT (which he got his hands on through some sort of deal), like the Firespray....

slap new engines on it, hook up a cargo module, expand upper cockpit area, bolt 2 guns to the middle front. yeah i can see it. It probably isn't a LAAT but in theory at least it could easily be a de-militarised LAAT that was converted to be sold to the civilian market and then had 2 guns bolted on my the mando.

At the end of episode 2 of Rebels where they free the wookies there is a ship that bares alot of similarities docked with the ghost...maybe a little inspiration for the design

No it’s a mandalorian gunship, fairly similar probably because of Jango Fett and his influence. Even if he wasn’t a true mandalorian he still used many mandalorian things and the mandalorian culture influenced the clones. You can also see this in their armour, especially the og helmets.

I thought they based it on the ship the Bounty Hunter in SWTOR gets but replaced the moving wings with some that were part of the chassis. The "D5-Mantis Patrol Craft"
