The Traveling Wilburys are my favorite formed supergroup. They consisted of Jeff Lynne (who was the lead singer of ELO), Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty (lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), and George Harrison (The Beatles). All of them had so much admiration and respect for each other and wound up singing and recording terrific music together. We got to hear Roy Orbison's great vocals one more time before he sadly passed away.

First time I heard the song was a few years back, when I didn't care much for 60s-80s music. So the first time I heard the traveling wilburys I didn't give it much of thought. Fast forward a few years: My father passed away and I inherited his vinyl collection. It instantly got me hooked. on especially 80s music. Slowly but surely I lurked into the 80s and finally the 60s. I found the traveling Wilburys a few months back again and my jaw just dropped. It took me years of learning about, recognizing and appreciating music from those decades to fully understand what had formed then, when this band hit the stores and radios. Such an awesome band with some of the biggest talents of the time.

The only ones left of this group are Jeff Lynn, Bob Dillon and the drummer, Jim Keltner. Also, you may notice that when you hear Roy Orbison singing his part, you only see a rocking chair with his guitar on it and the photo of him. That's because Roy had passed away by the time they got around to shooting this video even though he did sing on the record.

The guy who opened the vocals at the beginning of the track was George Harrison. He used to be in a little known band called the Beatles...... Bob Dylan hunched up in the corner, gets me..... A brilliant performance. But then what else would you expect from a band made up of such musical icons......Oh, and not forgetting Jeff Lynne of ELO. What more can you say? The rocking chair with the guitar in it was a touching tribute to Roy Orbison a.k.a. the Big O.

There’s a documentary floating around on KZbin. Called a true history of the traveling Wilburys. Very interesting it’s in several parts. You really get a feeling for the friendship and love all these guys had for each other. It really goes into how they got together and created some of the songs. Some of the songs were actually made right on the spot. Tom Petty actually joked how was he supposed to follow Roy Orbison and some of the songs.

Great reaction ladies! You're witnessing the Supergroup of ALL supergroups!! First, you've got the Big-O, Roy Orbison (who by the time of filming this video had passed, hence the empty rocking chair & guitar), Free-Wheelin' Bob Dylan, an Ex-Beatle George Harrison, THE Heartbreaker, Tom Petty, and Mr. ELO, Jeff Lynne. What an assembly of talent! No egos, just good rock n' roll! (RIP to 3 out of 5 - Roy, George & Tom) The whole album, Volume 1, each song is excellent, with each member having their time to shine. Roy's song "Not Alone Any More" is ethereal. Bob's song "Tweeter & The Monkey Man" is great. Tom has "Last Night" - a fun romp, George has "Handle With Care" - the first hit off the album, and Jeff has "Rattled". That's to start with!

Minor tidbit. George's Harrison's intro [ and ending] riff sounds as if it sprung out of the Beatles song I'm Looking Through You, as the opening chord riff sounds much like it until he goes up the scale. He either purposely used that, or subconsciously did.

I think the idea of the picture of Orbison was a nice way to include him in the video posthumously. It reminds me of an excellent documentary about the Funk Brothers, the musicians behind most of the great classic Motown hits, and when the film was made, a few of the musicians were already gone. They have a big concert showcasing the group, and in cases where a member was deceased, they included a big portrait of them on the stage. The movie is called "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown", and I highly recommend it for anyone who's a fan of the Motown sound. So, the empty chair with Roy's guitar and picture is a nice tribute and way to show that he was still part of the group.
