LOVE reprint of the early sketches! My first Barbie was from 1961 and those little books were as much fun as the doll. Ah, daydreaming! Thanks for the care you take in showing the construction of her garments (+ the little definitions)... And, yes, I vote to see her updated look, too! She will look FAB! xoxo

I got the Generation Of Dreams Barbie in 2009 from a friend. She still beautiful and in a different box with a necklace to honor the 50th birthday. Even love the Model Muse body. Wish I got the African-American version.

Only Barbie could fill up a ballgown with all iconic images of her doll history. This again, I believe is is MET Gala material. I can't wait till you shampoo all the gel out and give that hair a lift. I also think she needed more jewelry befitting of an anniversary. Will you consider putting new ones on her? Once again, thank you so much for your videos which so full of insights. It really helps to understand the craftsmanship behind the doll. We have to know where our doll budget goes. I have two collectors editions of barbie dolls this one and the 2007 November Birthsone barbie, still in their package untouched, im so glad I never took them out of the box! - Made me a bit nervous about the tape descintegration of what you mentioned early on, im very weary about taking her out of the box and the risk of destroying anything on accident. Great review!!

Bit late to the party here! Just bought this fashion and mine is sewn on!? Guess I will be adding snaps. Also, I thought all the undies etc that I've been seeing (we didn't really have them in the early 60's dolls) is to keep the saddle stands from damaging the dolls... who knows! In this case it can also keep the skirt from rotating around the doll.

Yes, I heard after doing this review that others also had fashions that were sewn on. How strange that there were multiple runs of this doll that were not uniform. Oh Mattel.

I think the pink satin back to her bodice is a nod to the enchanted evening pink gown because the floral square is the same fabric from a 1969 talking PJ dress. What a gorgeous homage to all the love and talented people who made barbie the doll that she is today. My favorite patch on her gown is the red flare bubble cut doll illustration! I love this gown! I’m looking at it and hearing coat of many colors by Dolly Parton!

Perhaps the built in under garment is to stop the skirt from rotating and keep the front from moving around to the back.. Beautiful whatever the purpose.

Now, you know you're going to have to show us how you improve her, right? I assume she's going to get a shampoo and set, some lashes, and a nice press on her gown. I would be tempted to add a silver collar-style necklace and cuff bracelet, and to pouf her hair out just a bit. I've always felt that the production doll's hair was a little too slicked down. This is one I passed on back in the day, but you're making me want to debox my Pop Icon doll, who has a similar type of dress to Generation of Dreams.
