Well there are other issues at play. The Imperial economy became dependent on the exploitation of the periphery to fund and send resources to the core. Entire planets would be strip mined, enslaved, and drained of everything to fund the imperial war machine. There is also one advantage a non-clone army gives. When the Empire conquers a human population (since they hated aliens), they could conscript said population. Each conquest gives them more soldiers - theoretically.

The real danger to the Empire has been the support the Rebel Alliance is getting from its own people. Using storm troopers means playing your people off against themselves. Great video! going further on the bit about individuality was how bits of Mandolorian culture snuck in as well, especially through soldiers like Kal Skirita and the Cuy'val Dar. The Mandolorian culture gave them a further sense of honor, family, and purpose which made them even more effective soldiers. None of this changed the overall loyalty of the GAR to the Republic, with or without the Disney inclusion of inhibitor chips. So Palpatine's paranoia about disloyal soldiers and wanting a larger, more effective military actually ended up costing him on both counts.

The largest issues with clones was the rapid aging, the cost, and the need for a base template that was worth the work to secure Find a way to double growth for the first 10 or so years, then have it slow when they hit maturity. Sorta like a hacked version of puberty. Make those your soldiers and your pilots. Let them move around in the ranks and positions freely. Then simply recruit for anything you're missing or dont wanna fill with valuable fighters like service techs, dock work, medics, repair services, etc but let exceptional ones be considered for high rank positions and the like. Maybe even use *that* as a way to find your next base template
@kauske3 жыл бұрын
The cost of cloning is pretty artificial, resource wise since they age faster, they cost far less than a normal human that takes 18-20 years to reach their physical apex. The issue here was outsourcing, if the Empire brought creation of clones in-house it would literally only cost them food. You have to pay even conscripts, both have to be equipped, fed, healed and housed. Being that the clones are literally slaves they would be the cheaper option without Kamino putting some sort of crazy markup on the cost of raising them. Sure, the cost of raising normal children is deferred from the government in a way, but it still costs your society resources. It's a very narrow view that thinks 'well, it's free to me' and just rolls with it. That lack of wholistic vision is probably why the empire was so bad at _everything._

Universal equipment... I don't know which is worse really, possible war fatigue over losing your loved ones (since many Stormtroopers obviously have families and/or friends) or paying overpriced Space Apple employees to create what is essentially a slave army. You know, why didn't the Empire simply pick up war orphans and young street urchins, divide them with vocational tests and train them accordingly, while indoctrinating them into staunch Imperial loyalists? They could be just as loyal with a lower cost of production and upkeep. It's not like poor children - if left to their own devices - could amount to anything beyond scum and villainy in that galaxy. They could be relatively easily reintegrated into society during peacetime since military specialist training is desirable in the civilian sector, while also serving as living examples of Imperial benevolence.

People keep whining about how Palpatine and Tarkin should have kept the army purely made out of Fett clones, but I actually side with them and their decision to diversify the army, for many different reasons: 1) Skills can be taught. Vice Admiral Rampart was correct. Crosshair's squad performed like crack soldiers, and in the opening scene of A New Hope, Stormtroopers had no problems hitting their targets. The Stormtroopers in the films who miss their shots are instructed not to hit the good guys because Vader wants them alive, they merely used covering fire to herd the good guys to where Vader or Tarkin wanted them. Clone Troopers can be made into Stormtrooper officers and Shocktroopers and be put in charge of Stormtrooper units, passing down their skills to a new generation of soldiers who owe their paychecks and their lives to the Empire. That way, the clones get a promotion, and newer soldiers get to learn from them. 2) You need to involve the populace in the army. If the Imperial Army remained purely clones, then the people won't feel any relation to them and would feel threatened by them. Part of the reason why the Republic was so callous in sacrificing clone lives is because they don't relate to the clones. They saw the clones as merely organic battle droids-only the Jedi gave a damn about clone lives. Which meant that if the clones kept bossing the people around as the only soldiers in town, the populace will feel threatened. They will see the clones as an occupying force, foreign and uncaring. Meanwhile, if you let common folk sign up for the army, then that would actually make the army more familiar to the populace. That's not some killer from Kamino patrolling the streets, that's little Timmy from down the street, fulfilling his dreams of being a space soldier and a hero. Guys like him will be protecting the community, and fulfilling a public service. Let the clones serve in command or officer roles, as befitting the role of a combat veteran. But let the common soldier be someone from the local populace, that way, people can actually relate to the army and not feel threatened by them. You can get rid of a large number of potential dissidents by putting a roof over their head and paying them to shoot your foes, creating more loyalty for the Empire. 3) Diversify the military gene pool. As much as it lowers the quality of the armed men to not just be Fett clones, the Rebels, or any other enemy of the Empire, can easily employ a bioweapon targeted against the Fett genome to devastate the Imperial army. To prevent such a scenario from happening, you need to diversify the army's genetic stock. Of course, the Empire's not going to trust filthy aliens outside of being spies or mercenaries, but by allowing humans of different genetic stock to mix in with the Fett clones, it makes DNA-targeting bioweapons not as effective as they should be. 4) Quality, not quantity. Focus the Kaminoan cloners on more higher-quality ventures. Have the Kaminoans focus mostly on creating more Advanced Recon Commandos and Clone Commandos with the remaining clone stock. With the Jedi Order decimated, the Empire will need a new breed of supersoldier to take their place, and with the Sith restricting themselves to two Sith Lords and a small army of dark acolytes, the government will need a new type of reliable super-soldier to make up for the loss of the Jedi Order. Focus them on quality, not quantity, so as to make their reputation feared, and force entire enemy forces to surrender before they consider fighting, saving more lives. 5) Size. No matter how fast the Kaminoans grow them, you need a large army that can't wait for another 10 years to grow. The Empire has to govern a large amount of worlds (70 million, to be precise) and you can't just wait for years to have new clones go online. So of course, they have to recruit to create a larger and more prolific army. Sticking to only clones would make it harder to police such a large territory. 6) MONEY. With the war over, the Empire has to cut back on spending because they're going to have to pay for rebuilding both the ruined Separatist and Republic worlds. Not to mention the fact that the Emperor has other projects going on, from Thrawn's TIE Defenders, Veers' AT-AT Walkers, to Tarkin's Death Star. So of course, you need to cut back on the cloning venture, because it's a cost-prohibitive operation in times of peace. Tell the Kaminoan cloners to focus on creating smaller, more elite units like ARC troopers and Clone Commandos, and cut back on the costs. Hiring recruits and having clones train them will pass down the skill of the clones onto new generations while saving on costs and rewarding the clones for their service with a promotion and people who serve under them. With the Empire now owning both former Republic and Separatist territories, much of which has been devastated by the war, jacking up taxes to pay for more clone troopers that the populace would see as an occupying force is bad for everyone involved. So yes, Tarkin is definitely right on this one.

They only had to make 3 changes to the clone army to make it 10x better and take away a few of its down sides. 1. Get multiple different types of clones so they are less susceptible to bio warfare. 2. Spread cloneing facilities across the galaxy to prevent loss of production from one being destroyed and also improve the speed and numbers of troops produced. 3. Regularly check the clones chips to prevent damaged ones from rebelling. Geting rid of clones completely was stupid should have used both clones as the elite and storm troopers as standerd troops if not just some kind of police force

Woudl've been better if they held onto clone troopers for longer, used them as a buffer as they implement storm troopers, and could've used storm troopers as regular army grunts while using clone troopers as more specialized infantry (like Army and Marines relationship)

You forgot to take into account Jango's degrading genetic sample. The Clones were getting less efficient with each batch, more and more were being "born" will genetic variations, most not useful to The Empire. It would have eventually gotten to a point where The Empire would be paying a premium price for fewer troopers that don't have much of an advantage over enlisted soldiers.

I think it’s better to look at it from the empires POV. The nature of the conflicts they were fighting didn’t require them to maintain a top of the line army that was more expensive. They were fighting guerrilla warfare and garrisoning the galaxy. It would also be easier to use human recruits because people didn’t fear humans as much as they did clones. the fett dna was degrading as well and they wouldn’t be able to maintain cloning production. I think both the clone troopers and the storm troopers were the best units for the conflicts they each participated in.
@jiaweichew33702 жыл бұрын
The best advantage the clones has was that they are so multi role that a small unit could in theory man almost the entire vehicle selection in the army resulting in clones being able to rotate positions in the event of high casualties to specific skills like clone gunners or arc 170 pilots or gunners.
@josepalacios85302 жыл бұрын
The empire couldn't stay with the clones because: - The Kaminoans were suspicious and had a hidden army to fight the impire and they knew that - The Jango gen was deteriorated - Due to the incredible intelligence clones had, lot of them would have rise against the empire - Expensive af (if they just forced the kaminoans to do it for free, they would just fight the empire)

The 9th disadvantage: the helmets and armour the helmet are offered close to no visibility the made it impossible to hit shots, and the armour we've seen clones take several shots and not die but with Stormtroopers the armour was made out of I forget but I do remember it was weaker than clone armour causing Stormtroopers to go down in a single hit

Good points. My theory is that Palpatine is an evil Sith who wants his own troops to suffer and die. That the clones are content and competent means the Clone Army is good, which Palpatine hates. Since Palpatine was controlling both sides of the Clone Wars it makes sense that he goads planets into rebellion so he can continue wars which keep him in power.

Jumping universes, but on the bond of brotherhood... Imperial Guard Stormtroopers in 40K - "Astra Militarum Tempestus Scions" in the new naming convention - aren't genetically engineered in vitro like Kaminoan clones are, but they _are_ trained basically from birth, and as cohesive units. They grow up as a cohort/graduating class in the Stormtrooper program of a Schola Progenium (the same Imperium school that produces Commissars and Adepta Sororitas), and are posted to Guard regiments as a self-contained unit. The advantage of this is that they've literally known each other and trained together all their lives, and intuitively know how the entire team of Stormtroopers will react to something. The disadvantage, though, is that from day one, that unit is on borrowed time because it cannot be reinforced when a trooper gets hurt or killed. I mean, you could bring in fresh blood from the Schola to reconstitute the unit, and they'll be well-trained and well-equipped, but the FNG's will always be outsiders to the Stormtrooper squad and won't have the reflexive bond of trust that made the original unit so effective. Usually, once a unit of Stormtroopers falls below fire-team strength (about five guys) the unit is formally disbanded, the surviving troops are assigned to line infantry units, and a request is put in with the Munitorum for another batch of Stormtroopers. Commissar Cain thought the practice was a little strange, since it left a Guard regiment with special-forces units that were almost always at only partial strength.

Ditching the clones is proof of Palpatine's single biggest flaw - Arrogance. The only reason Palpatine used clones in the first place was so that their inhibitor chips would guarantee they would obey Order 66, gutting the Jedi Order. After that, Palpatine cast the clones aside, thinking that he no longer needed them when quicker, cheaper alternatives were available. It would be the first of several mistakes he'd make over the next twenty-odd years.

I think when cloning a clone trooper, there should be a way to end the accelaration after 2-3 years (much like animals go though from birth to full adult). That way they can live longer lives. however, i see why they continue to age by design. emporor wanted the clones to 'die out' sooner after the war came to an end.

I always felt that the empire should have used a combined force of Clone Troopers and StormTroopers. Use the Stormtroopers to garrison planets, and as basic cannon fodder, while Clone Troopers would be used special forces style units. This same organization could be used for different types of units, such say a ship had 4 squadrons of fighters, 3 of them could be conscripts in Tie fighters, and 1 squad of clone pilots in an advanced fighter (better ships as the empire has much more money invested in them,) and the advanced fighters could even have hyper drives due to clone loyalty being programmed in, so there’s not nearly the desertion risk as with regular pilots. Hell, clone troopers could have even been used to train regular troops, not to mention due to their increased loyalty to the empire they could be used to police regular troops as well. There are just so many advantages to maintaining a small percentage of your clones within your military, that it’s stupid to not do so. I’d say it’s much the same when it comes to combat droids, I mean sure B1’s are useless, and I can understand that after the clone wars the Empire wouldn’t want to be seen publicly using a bunch of droid combat troops, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t be used as security within military bases and ships, or even used to supplement fighters/bombers carried on vessels. So using the above 4 squadrons, make two of recruits, one of clones in advanced fighters and the final squadron of some advanced droid fighter. Imagine if you will the first unit through the shield at Hoth, firing several cruise missiles toward the rebel base, each of which dropped a dozen droidikas into the middle of the Rebels guarding the base

clones: age fast, is a "product" that needs to be paid to the DEVELOPER before the creation and until the clones death, killed almost all jedi which also means there is a potential that this could happen to the sith, inhibitor chips can disfunction stormtroopers: i guess they cost less because they only need to be payed when they join the militare and they dont have a "developer" which in turn also costs less, they are not a big threat to the sith in comparison to the clones but that also means they are lesser threat to the jedi and rebellion, being a stormtrooper means almost anyone can become one which means more planets can join the empire forces

I always thought that the reason for stopping clone operation was for the job market not the value of soldiers. A war just ended, worlds are in ruins, people are unhappy and jobless, and now we can suck op 90% of that into thr militarily solving most of the unrest problems.

Can anyone please teach those stormtroopers how to shoot? They were bested by a blind force sensitive monk that didn't even weild a light Saber. And their blasters don't even have sights, which is the bear minimum for delivering controlled bursts.
