@Speur'Tighearna MacTerik - Your complaint doesn't make any sense. Just because Wookie slaves were used to build a part of the Death Star doesn't mean other people were not used to build other parts of the Death Star. The Star Wars lore and other media actually says/shows non-Wookies building it too. The original Death Star plans were created by Geonosians, and the Geonosians helped build the initial stages of the Death Star before it was relocated to other planets. The movie Rogue One shows human engineers helping to build and design parts of the Feath Star too. The Andor TV show portrays the workers only assembling robots that builds the gun disk of the Death Star - it doesn't show them building the main structure, other parts, or the entire thing. So the Wookies building the death Star does not mean ONLY Wookies built the Death Star - many other species and people helped build it.

I love both. But Andor just hits the spot more for me. Every episode had me invested and wanting more. The slow burn and pay off was next level. Although set in the same universe they are completely different shows. Andor is far more adult in theme and essentially a spy series, whereas Mando is more traditional Star Wars fare, episodic adventures with a background theme. Much like the old B&W Flash Gordon TV series that Lucas was inspired by. I had them even in ratings until the recent series of The Mandalorian. I now have Andor ahead. Andor has a gripping, well told story with well written and fleshed out characters in a realistic and entrancing world. Idk if i really want to invest my time in Disney starwars when the quality can be this inconsistent and the story, once again, clearly hasn't been planned out. Mando S3 deserved better and if that show, their cash cow, can be so messed up by the writers and execs i have no reason to expect better or even a base level of competence. Andor is the Star Wars I always craved but never thought I would see: gritty for adults, with stakes and really good acting and dialogue, as if Star Wars got the Blade Runner/Battlestar Galactica reboot treatment. Mando season one and two were great adventure, feel good serials with a family appeal and lots of heart. Mando season 3 was still entertaining and I loved the finale, but the quality of writing and tone dropped dramatically. I couldn't shake the feeling that the show was setting up other shows at the expense of its own story. Having key plot points take place in another show (BOBF) was awkward. Andor is clearly the product of its creators, while Mando has too many cooks spoiling the broth. John Favreau is a better writer than that (catch the movie "Chef" sometime). Hopefully Mando season 4 can be a return to form, but I am looking forward to Andor more. As for the you tubers, I think some of them were threatened by the fact that Andor played by a different set of rules and they had trouble following and predicting the show, so it affected their ability to put out content.

Eh.. The speeches were alright. I don't think it should have been called ANDOR. It should have been called RISE OF THE REBELLION or something cause it wasn't solely about Cassian, it was about the rebellion more. I felt that it had too many episodes that kinda dragged. Cassian should have just went to prison in the first episode instead of how he wound up going there later. Each of the plots should have been kept separate until the end. 8-9 episodes would have been a sweet spot; or even 10. The security guy got annoying after the fourth episode or so, I was hoping he'd be killed in the end and the imperial lieutenant would have at least been wounded or disfigured. Kinda played it safe with the villains.
@abeautifuldayful
@abeautifuldayful Жыл бұрын
@@travisgames6608 I also thought of Rise of the Rebellion. But I'm not that opposed to the family name Andor. It's grown on me. At first, you see mostly one character by that name in the slow buildup of the first couple episodes. But it's Cassian's last name. So you see his sister and others in the Andor family and close friends, one in Bix Caleen who might take his name later, who knows. And you see his family background in flashbacks done right and their unique family dynamics develop later. I appreciate that. Another season should reveal even more about the family of Andor and not only one person remaining, IMO. His sister may still surface, e.g. And I have some theories about that. The main point I'm trying to make is that family is always important in Star Wars and how fractured they can get (often at the hands of the Empire) but still make great contributions to the budding rebellion and glue fractures back together for either themselves or the greater society through great sacrifice, as in the next show in the timeline after Andor, Rogue One.

Exactly. Anakin's lines should be cringey. He's a teenager with no experience with women, who has a crush on a slightly older and much more worldly wise woman, and he's desperately trying to impress her. It's not going to be pretty. (If he'd grown up in the temple like the other younglings and Padawans, things might have been different - canon novels have pretty much established that Padawans get it on together and no one cares as long as no one gets too attached - but he's basically just been with Obi-Wan, who's not going to teach him how to flirt.) Padme's lines could have been a bit smoother, though. She didn't have much prior romantic experience, but she's been in public roles that require eloquent speech for at least a decade.

Hi Allan ! I knew of your channel for a few years already, but I gotta say it's with your breakdowns of Andor that your channel really took off for me. I was pretty fascinated by the amount of socio-political analysis you took from this series, and I guess it takes a genius work (Andor) to inspire and elevate another genius's work (you). While I think up until Andor, Mandalorian was the best thing Disney has done with Star Wars, I completely agree with you on the fact that Andor is the best thing that ever happened to Star Wars, bar none ! Even surpassing the OG trilogy ! If Mando is the clear spiritual successor of the OT, Andor is what Star Wars transcended into. It is one of those rare pieces of storytelling art that steer the audience both intellectually AND emotionally. If Mandalorian is still Star Wars for the whole family, Andor is the unapologetically Star Wars for Adults. And since most of the people who grew up with the OT are now easily in their 40's if not 50's, that's the main demographic of this series right there, which is why we are so passionate about it (not unlike Harry Potter, where the characters grow up at the same time as the readers/viewers), as it makes us feel that Star Wars has finally grown up with us (and this, despites being under the Disney banner, which, as we are painfully aware, is no small feat, which makes us appreciate it even more as a real unicorn, if not anomaly in nowadays audiovisual landscape). As for your point of view of the Covert vs the new Mandalorians being a metaphor for the Star Wars fans, I love it, but Ryan Arey from Screencrush just got out a terrific essay, helped by a few jewish history and culture experts, about how the whole Mandalorian season 3 conflict is actually a re-telling of the historic struggle of the Jewish people, with the conflicts between ultra-conservative orthodoxes vs modern Jews, and how they tried to reconquer their holy land. It's fascinating, and I really urge you to go watch it. I'm sure you'd find it as eye opening as I did. Btw, watching your thumbnail, wouldn't that be neat to have an episode (in whichever show,either Andor, or a flashback in Mando) where Din gets face to face with Andor ? Having these 2 papitos being the 2 new biggest faces of current Star Wars is something of a beauty.

@@GenerationTech talking about unity and AI, don't you love it to have an episode of Mandalorian talking about Droids rights and how their sentience could become a threat to civilization as a whole (shame that it got bashed, as I liked this episode a lot for what it tried to tell, but it just had the misfortune to be the 6th episode in an already sputtering paced 8 episodes season) ? “Most people are good or want the opportunity to be good” I couldn’t agree more. My belief has always been that people generally want the same things for the world: peace, happiness, plenty, community. Where we tend to bash heads is when we have different ideas of how to achieve these things and what they look like on a broad scale.

I thought Andor was a breath of fresh air compared to most Disney Star Wars. The writing, script, acting, and casting was just so much better than most of the Star Wars we've gotten since the Disney acquisition. Let me just add that "Rouge One" was by far my favorite Disney SW movie, and I did enjoy the first 2 seasons of Mando. Season 2 I loved, especially that ending.

5:04 I think the dialogue in “The Prequels” is spot on. What do you expect a kid who is raised by Square ass Jedi to talk like Casanova? The Jedi are for bidden to be romantic. he did the best he could to explain how he felt to the first girl he’s ever talk to face-to-face. When I was a teenager I bet my dialogue sounded Cringy as well. “Hey Stacy will you go out with me?”

Well said, Allen. I personally liked Andor more because of the gritty personal side of the rebellion the story tells. I felt the Mandalorian started with a similar feel, a view into the armpits of the galaxy, then the energy started to drift a different direction for me. Which is fine, I still enjoyed all three seasons but was just a little bummed out by the shift.

The issue with saying that Andor missed the “key elements of Star Wars” is that while yes we generally see in the *movies* the more important and major characters & events, that’s not all of what the SW universe is in its entirety. There is also the more “boring” day to day commoner life, and that’s what Andor captures so beautifully. It tells the story of the early rise of the Rebellion through the eyes of a nobody, a random adopted orphan living on an unimportant planet that gets scooped up into the power plays between the Empire and early Rebel cells. This lets us see the grit and effort put into the behind-the-scenes of the Rebellion that allows Luke to blow up the first Death Star (for example). The Star Wars universe is a living breathing universe with trillions of beings who all have their own individual lives, it’s not just the dozen or so Jedi masters, Sith Lords, and hotshot pilots. And I’m not saying Mando is bad, it started out as a quite good series mirroring the original trilogy, but now with season 3 it’s killed (sometimes literally) most of its possible story paths, and become a meta cash grab that only cares about unnecessary cameos and selling more merch.

@@Dephax oh yes please and I completely agree with you. The OT was one of the best pieces of cinematography when it came out, and Andor is again one of the best when it released. The Mandalorian is a fun show, no doubt about that!... But the "One Way Out" scene alone is one of the best moments not only in Star Wars, but in my personal opinion, in film making history. Just... cinematic perfection. Andor brings a gravitas and maturity to Star Wars that lends itself well to a series about fighting space fascists.

Andor wins. Not just for Star Wars, but ANY TV show! Name any other show that, in one season, is a successful heist movie, riot movie, political drama, prison break drama, sci-fi space opera, family drama and treatise on the origins of revolution .. and acting masterclass with at least 6 unforgettable monologues (one of which is only one line long .. "never more than 12") At least 3 of the episodes would be considered a "masterpiece" ending for any other series You'd need to go to a galaxy far, far away to see something this good.

Mandalorian feels like the "family show" that everyone can watch together not bad but for a broad audience. I think the issue is that Mando S1 is great. S3 is... not even comparable to how tight the script was for S1. They kept retreading territories and character arcs. Mando S3 is not even a comparison w/ Andor, it's simply worse than S1 where it was really fun, action-packed, and relied more on that samurai / cowboy movie inspiration.

If you watch episodes 2 & 3 while imagining James Earl Jones speaking Anakin’s lines, you realize that he’s speaking the same way that Darth Vader does in episodes 4-6. By episode 4 Darth Vader has the gravitas that merits James Earl Jones as his voice and the lines work.

Andor is just, wow. Like Allen was saying, the way this show builds and builds on the theme of rebellion and then climaxes in the finale was amazing. It has me out of my seat yelling "fuck yeah" as Brasso smashed that brick on the stormtrooper's head. Both Luthen's and Keno's speech's were exciting and well earned. Iwill say that if Andor has another outstanding second season it will definitely be pulling ahead in my rankings.

It took me so long to watch and finish Andor because I felt it was so dire and depressing especially knowing what eventually happens to Cassian in Rogue One. But all the political intrigue, drama and Imperial shenanigans was really worth the agony for me.
