For those who wonder, the "Tarkin" novel, from which a large amount of the information in this video comes, was at first written for Legends, but James Luceno was forced to rewrite it and likely remove content to fit it into the new continuity. The irony of Tarkin taking out Krennic was that by destroying Scarif base he destroyed himself and the Death Star. If the plans left in the transmitter had been analysed in the post action report, the deliberate vulnerability in the Death Star would have been uncovered. Rogue One retconning the exhaust port into an intentional design flaw is so needless and lame. It was a fitting downfall that they thought they were too big to fail. The biggest threat of the D Star wasn't that it could end planets, it was the terror it enforced on the galaxy.

@@EGRJ It's not really a 'flaw', it's direct sabotage. And it doesn't really make sense anyways, because the D-star plans have existed since Attack of the Clones. They only really wanted the plans so they could find a weakness, that was the original logic in ANH, but if they'd just told them the one intentional weakness, the actual plans themselves wouldn't really be important.

What's most amusing about the whole 'Tarkin's Greatest Mistake' fallout is that, let's be real, the Emperor's furious reaction to Alderaan being blown up is rank hypocrisy. The Emperor can't even get mad at the political fallout, because Tarkin's chain of thought was exactly like the Emperor's. And in fact, the Emperor also made similar stupid mistakes of miscalculating the amount or intensity of backlash he'd get from his flashy intimidation tactics that seemingly brought instantaneous results both in Shadows of the Empire and Return of the Jedi. Let's face it, Tarkin and Palpatine was perfect for each other, it's just that neither of them had the self-awareness to realize that they were perfect for the wrong reasons.

His childhood forced him to be paranoid and look for any opportunity to better his position or survive. In the hyper competitive hierarchy of the empire tarkin was seeing opportunities everywhere to do what he thought was right, regardless of what anyone else thought or the cost in lives. He landed a landing ship on protesters, he blew up alderaan without any regard for the cost, and was so convinced of his righteousness and tarkin doctrine he couldnt even conceive that anyone would oppose the empire if the empire simply scared everyone into submission. He could not fathom that people are capable of laying their lives down for a cause that they believe in, even in the face of impossible odds. Its ironic that the empires most psychopathic opportunist was defeated by opportunists; the rebel alliance. The alliances' whole thing was to wage guerilla/opportunistic warfare. They had to determine the best way to stretch limited resources and hit the empire where it hurt without them being able to see it coming. Really, really ironic.

Given Tarkins compatibility with Sideous and his absolute loyalty, i think Palatine was planning on killing Darth Vader right after the rebel base on yavin was destroyed, with the rebel high command dead and the death star feared throughout the galaxy, Vader would become redundant at best and a threat at worst, so in a weird way luke saved Vader by destroying the death star
@shanerasmussen52259 ай бұрын
Slight hitch with that plan is that by the time of Yavin the Inquisitors have been eliminated by Vader, so there is no apparent readily available apprentice. Now, as we saw with Maul & Dooku, Palpatine only technically followed the rule of two. He was grooming Dooku well before Maul's death, and indeed he was grooming Anakin before Dooku's death. So while Palpatine may have had a new apprentice lined up he would not have Tarkin kill Vader for this new apprentice. That isn't the Sith way, the new apprentice would need to defeat Vader themselves. In Dooku's case since Obi-Wan killed Maul he had to kill Yaddle (guarantee Palpatine made him bleed Yaddle's Khyber crystal for his Sith blade). Now in Canon by the time of Yavin Vader and Palpatine have tried to kill each other several times, but in each case Palpatine has sent potential apprentices to fight Vader personally. The one time he put Vader against Tarkin was ultimately a lesson for the both of them. Imagine if Maul had turned Ezra, no doubt Palpatine would have waited for the right time to eliminate Maul and then hide Ezra away until he was ready for Vader. Why else did he never send Vader after Maul? He was a teacher for a potential future apprentice primed for Sith. Vader never even knew Maul was on the planet in Twilight of the Apprentice, he never saw him, said his name, anything. He was there for Ezra, Kanan, & Ahsoka. I believe Palpatine wanted Maul to get away with Ezra, while Vader eliminated his ties to the Jedi. I will admit I want this theory to be true because it makes Starkiller more likely to exist in some form within canon (please Ahsoka season 2). Sorry to ramble

@@shanerasmussen5225 since when has palpatine ever cared about the rule of two? If the emperor listened to technocrats and tacticians like Thrawn rather than Tarkin the empire could have been much more efficient. I wonder if Thrawn made it even closer to the Emperor if he would try to take over. Imagine if Emperor Thrawn made a deal with the rebels to turn the imperial military into his own personal "Imperial expansionary defense fleet" and promised to keep the empire in the unknown regions/ chaos in order to protect the chiss. Similar to how the chiss expansionary defense fleet was not allowed inside the borders of the ascendancy. Here's the fleet compoition I think Thrawn would advocate for. I mean they new republic agreed to keeping the remants in the unkown regions even after they won the war. I feel the rebels would definitely agree to thrawn if he willingly exiled the entire empire before the imperial senate was even disbanded and a full fledged civil war even started. Once they leave this would give time for the new-republic to build up just in case the empire returns once thrawn dies. 1. Keep the venator, acclamator, arquitense light cruiser, the clones, and republic starfighters such as the v-wing until upkeep become more expensive than new designs. 2. Combine separatist, republic, and new imperial technology and tactics into new designs. I understand the tie design due to centralized logistics rather than having different manufacturers. There are benefits to having different pipelines incase of parts issues, especially in a republic that wants to encourage competition, however for a command economy like the empire it does make sense.: A. Make the tie interceptor the standard tie to act as a point defense ships for carriers, make the tie defender the main long-range patrol and assault starfighter which can extend the range of an imperial fleet. A pair of defenders could likely take out a whole squad of X-wings. Keep the tie bomber but this is the one time I would include another starfighter manufacturer, keeping and upgrading the Y-wing to be a longer range bomber, or develop another type of tie bomber. B. No death star and instead focus technology on interdictors, and stealth ships like the IPV-2C stealth corvette. Create a new carrier based fleet instead of star destroyers. Focus on shields, point defense, and torpedos and missiles over turbolasers. (But keep some turbolasers since they can be fired indefinitely when missiles run out). Also automate much of the ships tor educe crew requirements. Fleet example: 1. Imperial class Star Carrier - New design based on venator. Tie interceptors, bombers, and defenders. I would also include a handful of heavy starfighters such as the missile boat thrawn used that was based on the starwing 1-2 Sovereign class cruisers - smaller more efficient star destroyers, I'm thinking a cross between a gladiator, victory, and munificent frigate. Focusing on shields, long range turbolaser/ion cannons, some medium turbolasers, and especially a focus on capital grade torpedo's, missiles, and point defense weaponry of all types: Laser cannons, point defense missiles, flak guns, and ion cannons. This ship is a also capable of orbital bombardment. 1-2 Stardestroyer class frigates - Basically an imperial MC30c. The stardestroyer frigate will focus on speed, maneuverability, missiles, and turbolasers to quickly strafe enemy ships and retreat. similar complement to the cruiser but with less point defense. I like the cluster bombs that the MC30c had. 2 Nebulon-b frigates. Originally an imperial design anyway I will use likely one as a medical ship and one for additional anti-starfighter support. I would add torpedos and point defense missiles as well but not flak because the shells take up so much space. The empire nationalized CEC so I would include hammerhead corvettes as resupply transports, and create a new gunship based on the lancer, DP20 and raider corvette. Corvettes are a little too big for this role. Their extra space is great for operating on their own for extended periods of times as system patrol ship where a frigate is too expensive and overkill. Small gunships with only enough space or pilots and gunners can be resupplied by the fleet they support. I would have a handful of two different variants 1 focused on anti-starfighter with Lasers and missiles, and one focused on torpedos for anti capital ship warfare. I would name them the "Firestorm class gunship". If possible I would use a handful of IPV-2c stealth corvette as a torpedo boats but these would be more rare. I would also include interdictors in larger fleets. Once the acclamator becomes too old I still believe a designated troop transport would be a better use of resources than keeping legions of marines on a star destroyer just sitting around just in case a fleet battle turns into a planetary assault. Keeping the marines on their own designated ships makes sure they are where they are needed. I would also create patrol ships based on the CEC VCX-100 light freighter and add some additional ion weaponry to disable ships in a policing role. The CR90 would also be good to supplement these and be used as personal transports for high ranking imperials. The quasar carrier would also be great for system patrols and policing. The quasar fractures when moving through hyperspace making it weak for the navy but great as a stationary base for VCX-100 patrol ships and tie-interceptors, or as a starfighter base for independently operating tie-defenders. An independent starfighter corps would work great for the empire to set up in hot-spots where a permanent presence is needed.

I don't keep up with all the new stuff, so forgive me if I'm not taking into account certain comics or short stories, etc, but I might just not have seen; but to me his closest association with tarkin made progressively less sense as the story went on, because tarkin himself seemed less and less competent the more stories he was added into.... Back when you're talking about just episode four and maybe some of the initial extra appearances, to me tarkin always came across like a highly competent person who is ultimately hand strong by a dedication to a broken philosophy; His dedication to fascism, of which he had managed to work himself into the upper echelons ultimately fueling the hubris that would be his undoing. But then it more just became he was borderline competent, if even that, and just happened to be in the right place at the right time to cheat his way up the ladder to the top... And ultimately now it doesn't make sense that the emperor would have someone so totally incompetent in charge of anything, let alone some of the projects he had the most faith in.

a lot of plot holes are suposed to exist in in universe. It wouldn't change the course of the plot if they did go back for Aniken's mom but Watto already sold her to that family that freed her. But the the problems wity the jedi was part of the plot . But i under way the Group with a attachments thats attached ti republic going to war with systems in places the republic has jurusticion of republic in name of republican. .and didnt want indiviaul jedi take on their indivual issues but that's what Obi Wan did . In clone wars series . Its flat out stated Obi had to come alone to not involve the republican in a side war. And Smee was just an avarage slave and buying wouldn't be any change the local system. And the galactic war over issues of republic juristic started . Satin anthe over Thrown leader and Obi wan alone to fight wity Maul doing the main war. Thats more just contradictory of an organizations nit suposed to attachments being attached to major government. . . That's flat oprn double standard And we talk if the jesi should detach from the republic . Be ronins free people where not in snyone's name. But could Aniken Just leave the order and be a free agent.
