We can't trust photographic evidence of ANYTHING anymore. These are so good! As a retired, old-school designer (who taught PS 3.0), you've blown my mind about what can be done now with a few loose strokes and a descriptive vocabulary. I love your teaching style -- clear, concise and quick.

Love how on instagram every "wannabe influencer" will be in Dubai and drive a Lamborghini soon etc... Instagrams resolution is so low, that you can easily fake a rich lifestyle. You can generate muscle for yourself, women can make themselves "thicc", place themselves in countries they never visited etc. to gain tons of followers
@ZenMaisy

@@shredd5705 I'm more concerned with manipulating what we see on the news or rely on in court -- we're conditioned to believe a photo is the "real" truth. But yeah, people with less ambition and "influence" in things that truly matter will also use this manipulation for personal gains.

@@ZenMaisy That had been a known issue for at least 20 years. The capture technology chain has to support nonrepudiation from the point of capture all the way to the rendering surface. Canon used to have SLRs to be used for court evidence creation. What we see in the news - that's a huge area for discussion, beyond the technology only.

I think at some point it's going to become so saturated with fake images and things that are absolutely not realistic that people will eventually start coming back to things that are real and images that weren't completely faked. I think there will be value in people posting pictures online and specifically stating what has been edited with the photo. It takes no talent to have something artificially generated.

Quick tip: You had trouble with the leather jacket mainly because your selection was too tight. If you expand the selection around the subject, you'll get better results for baggy, puffy, or other clothing that is not super tight or form-fitting.

Absolutely amazing! However, I've been an avid student of Photoshop for years, learning compositing, and other cool techniques. A skill I was proud to know. Not everyone could do this. Adobe has now made it so easy to create stunning images and composites with absolutely no skill required, prompting me, (no pun intended), to question, Why did I learn all those techniques and skills over the years if the end result is something any novice can replicate in seconds by typing a description.

It's not about whether we continue to take our photos in the finest light, in wind and weather, at dizzying heights or in enchanting, blooming valleys. There is no doubt about it, because we love this fantastic hobby and pursue it with the utmost passion. It's more a question of whether anyone still buys you when you've managed to take a great photo in an enchanting atmosphere and a fantastic composition and you want to share it on social media. Suspicion will increase and that's what worries me the most...

This will be a tool to get rich in Instagram. Stupid hoes already try to cheat with Photoshop all the time, to claim they visited Dubai etc. and it actually works, people follow that stuff. Even when they get caught occasionally when the background is bending too etc... but now they can create totally believable photos in some exotic countries, even if they took it on their lawn. The resoluion is so low in Instagram that it will be impossible to tell. Or, they can make their glutes bigger.... that alone gets you a huge following in Insta, with zero other talents

Like so many people I'm amazed and slightly troubled by this phenomenal advance in Photoshop technology. As ever I'm so thankful to you for your excellent tutorial on this new feature. I've been using Photoshop (and Lightroom) for many years to "tidy up" my images and inevitably the degree by which "tidying up" is defined has grown with the advent of the new technology, especially the AI element . Entering contests and competitions with an image that has been "improved" by for example using Camera Raw filter sliders is one thing but are competitions going to start adding limits in the terms and conditions of entry to weed out entries that have elements of AI generated additions and composites ? I'm sure we've all carefully "cloned out" (or more recently used the remove tool) to lose the odd distracting item (like an overflowing ugly waste bin in a street scene ), but replacing the bin with an artificially created item (like a dog or a car) changes the meaning and feel of the image. Is it "intelligent" to be "artificial" ?

I tried this over the weekend and to be honest, you can be blown away with the immediate results, but if you look closer on larger files the difference in sharpness of the pixels between the original and the generative fill is vast. It looks blurry and not even part of the same image. If you pull back on these files you can also see this result on things like grass or anything with a broken texture effect. If you do in small areas on small res files it's great. Not sure if they will ramp up the quality in the release, but as far as I am concerned this is a big issue as a commercial tool. I didn't try the actually replacement tool aspects as there si much in teh way if IP issues in AI, so will see how this plays out.
