Generator Predator Is it a Tapered shaft?

Many people have asked me if I know if the predator 4000 generator is a tapered shaft or not. With a donation of a free generator to scrap out we break it down for recycling the copper and finding out.

This is very cool working with children.I gave my kids alternators carburetors to take apart and reassemble. My one son is a propane engineer my other son can rebuild anything with a sparkplug or glow plug My daughter changes her own oil and can work on any car

I did this same thing and my riding lawnmower it's been running for 2 years now, just cut away the aluminum fan housing, weld a drive pulley and it works.

There is an adapter available to convert from tapered shaft to straight, includes a keyway. Believe I saw them on ebay.

if it is a tapered shaft just press the rotor assy off the shaft and cut the shaft to the length you want, put it back on the motor and find a shorter bolt and reattach it then your back to a straight shaft, done it many times and it works awesome.use some green locktite and its fine.

I have mounted them on the ways of my lathe and turned them into a straight shaft and cut a keyway in my Bridgeport. Just indicated the crank in bolted it tight and start the motor up and bring in your cutter.

I heard if you wrap teflon tape under the head of the main shaft bolt. Put water or oil in the hole of armature hydronic pressure will push armature off when you tighten bol t

There is a big demand for mechanics that can repair gas generators and you should try doing a lot more of it Look at the numbers of how many are watching them Just some advice is all

I honestly did not think Predator producers in China would go the extra step to taper the end's.

Why wouldn't they? It makes it cheaper to produce the generator as with the tapered shaft the stator only needs one bearing.

Wondering if this one get the 20A breaker hack and toasted the stator windings? Amazingly, I got a $25 awesome looking condition engine fired right up one with low voltage that only needed a ~$15'ish priced AVR to be good as new. On the other hand, before I learned about repairing the generator side... I invested in a $50 fried stator Coleman Powermate that has me wondering if I can rewind (if somehow worth which I doubt is) the stator coils and possibly upgrade. Appears the rewinding can be done by those in 3rd world countries. :-D Still, motivation. Amazes me the Prius CVT Motor Generators (MG's) and I'm thinking I'll focus on using one of the two MG's for use in making a generator with possibly that engine and most likely the planned 18HP opposed twin briggs for starters since was the engine used for the B&S hybrid car. Also, reminds me the water pumps have a unique annoying shaft design that's threaded and has me thinking again I need to make an adapter for a pump or two around here. Thanks for sharing!

Have me wondering if the rotor can be easily tore down to make a straight shaft adapter and if so, what that O.D. is of that sleeve? I'll check when I get to the latest gen I invested in missing the stator though looks like has a good 13HP Vanguard. It's a Generic MC6500 I'm not finding any info regarding. I'll try making a video in the morning if I can remember. So far only the two photos that make me think Vanguard or Honda... man you can tell I'm a rookie at the range of generators and this is my first season working with em. facebook.com/james.analytic/posts/5071266129601815

Just a guess, but I'm guessing the answer is 'yes', as in flywheel is tapered, PTO shaft is straight with keyway. (Edit, this is my prediction, we'll have to see as of yet!) Edit2: Well that was a surprise! I figured it would have been the same as the standard engine. So Lifan or whoever used a dedicated crank for their genies I suspect.

@@lawrenwimberly7311 ⚠️Here are the safety rules of using portable generators: It is important to follow all generator safety rules whenever we use portable generators: Everyone must see this. This is just a reminder for everyone’s safety. 1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards. 2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house. 3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules. 4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2LNhWZ3g6qBrKs and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators Hope this helps

Give John his own tools and he'll have all your equipment torn apart and well just torn apart HAHA!!! Another couple years he will be able to put it back together and it'll work again LOL. Good to see John working on stuff though, they have to learn somehow, and taking broken stuff apart is a great way to start out, can't do it any harm its already broken LOL.
