Dear engineer, can you help me? I have had a rotor to ground fault in a 56MVA generator, 12 salient pole rotor, vertical axis, the protection relay did not detect the fault and I pressed the emergency stop, however the stator was damaged due to unbalance. I would like to know if there is an electrical circuit to test and verify that the relay is operating correctly, I would appreciate your kind response. regards

You need to simulate rotor earth fault condition by decade resistance box, change resistance from high to trip value and note down the trip threshold resistance value.

Pl explain method to check rotor earth fault. How we we may check that whether relay is faulty or there is actual fault. As i am facing problem with siprotec 7um62. When we start generator it trips after sometime on rotor earth fault and after 2 or 3 trippings the system becomes normal. Is there any chance that dust or moisture is causing this???

u may test the calibration of rot ef measurements by using a resistance box between excitation dc ckt and ground

It may have dynamic earth fault... May be some foreign material is causing it at 3000rpm..
