Mango is probably the only player that when he loses has the most people saying he wasn't playing his best, while if Mango does beat the other player it's "mango at his best can't be beaten". It's just as valid to say the other player didn't play their best. Was he playing at his best at Genesis 3? If he was, then he just got beaten by Armada, so your statement is false, and if he weren't, then when is he playing his best? The next time he beats Armada and wins a tournament? Also keep in mind that while Armada is really consistent, that does not mean that if/when mango does beat him (or anyone else for that matter) that they HAVE to be at their peak, so it becomes "proof that mango peak > their peak". For example, Armada flubbed and SD'd in this grand final. Everyone likes to talk about how if mango didn't SD in the 2nd game of the 2nd set, he might've taken the tournament, but at the same token, if Armada didn't flub, he could've won without a bracket reset. Yes, mango is a great player, but I seriously don't get this "at his best he can't be beaten" mentality. Not for him, not for leffen or any other of the gods. It just seems incredibly silly.

Y'all both have good points. Its true I'm fan boying, but I'm also just trying to make the point that consistency isn't the only way of proclaiming who is the GOAT. Mang0 is the GOAT because it is self-proclaimed rofl, "you cant do it like me". The highest level of melee I've seen is when Mang0 is peaking, but that's kind of just my opinion. Also I love armada, they are the 2 supreme beings of melee imo.

Anthony B except this was a Fox ditto for two games and then it was Fox Peach. I understand that this was literally the match everyone had been waiting for since the second Genesis and it was definitely hype and still just might be one of the best sets EVER, but the Evo Grands set this year was absolutely insane. I don't think there's ever been as many moments where the winner of the set could have literally been either player ever.

Great matches! After Mang0 was sent to loser's bracket, something inside him fired up and pushed him to greatness. I had not seen him play like that in years. Luck was also slightly in his favor too, but Mang0 was pushing the pace in every single match and was looking for the win at all costs, so in a way he crafted it. He played beautifully against Armada in the first set, but I think that playing at such a high-level so long and consistently took a toll on him. At the same time, it is incredible how consistent Armanda was throughout the whole tournament. He beat everyone he faced convincingly and managed to overcome his loss against a legendary Mang0 and stop his crazy winning streak. His mental toughness is unparalleled. He is great at adapting to the situation, and I think that's what gave him the edge at the end. I think that anybody else would have probably fallen prey to Mang0. 2016 will be a great year for Melee. I can't wait to see more. Congrats to both!

You know, Armada is truly scary. you look at the matches and you see Mango going crazy, on fire and dominating, and yet.. whenever you look at the stocks below you see an even match. whatever lead Mango got over Armada, Armada just calmly got back at him and even gets a lead for himself in the process. Like i don't know if it's just me but in this matches you always see Armada on the defense, being pressured and yet the game is always even. i just find that to be so scary and respect worthy lol.
