It's a deathbed scene; the end of Jacob's life is drawing near and there are things he wants to set in order. While the law of the firstborn requires the oldest son to receive a double portion, Jacob chooses to honor the younger grandson, Ephraim. We'll learn why, and how that is relevant to our own lives in this study from Genesis.

As I was thinking of Jacob, and his age of death, something popped out. The Lord's will was for him to die at age 147. The man that history would know as Israel, the very country that now revived lives. 147 can be broken up into 14 and 7. In Matthew 1 we hear of the 14 generations that occurred between significant people/events of the Jewish history starting from Abraham and ending with Jesus. 7 is, well, 7. A number our Lord uses over and over. In addition, when you add up 1 + 4 + 7 you get 12. The number of Israel's sons and the number of the tribes of Israel. I don't believe that any of this is by accident.
