That's because he knows less about music than he thinks he does. Facts. Plus, there is a definite bias against British and UK artists on this channel, despite what they might claim. The UK IS music.
@TastesLikeMusic3 жыл бұрын
Stating ones own preference has nothing to do with how much one knows. The only thing required is having heard them. And there’s definitely not a UK bias. A lot of my favorite bands are British. The Beatles, The Zomies, T Rex, Mott the Hoople, David Bowie, Queen, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Supergrass. I could go on for days about British music that I love. You’re just sour that it’s not the same British music that you like.

Everybody's taste is different, no problem with that. But saying that "Trespass is not that different from the debut album" is the single most incredible comment I have ever heard about the band! The debut album is a throwaway pop album created by 18 year old school boys trying to please their producer and get a hit single. Trespass is a full on prog album, the first in a long line of great albums. The change between these 2 albums dwarfs that between any other pair of consecutive albums by the band in my opinion.

Yours is the very first KZbin Genesis Review video I have seen that has not included all of the big three in the top five. The 'big three' being 'Foxtrot', 'Selling England' and 'The Lamb'. Usually these three albums are all in the top five with the addition of 'Trick' and 'Nursery Cryme'. Your choices make for intriguing and novel viewing. Jason did have 'The Lamb' at number 2 and you both had 'Selling England' in there though. It's most interesting to see an unconventional take on the Genesis catalog especially from younger people. You have drawn from both eras of Genesis equally which is commendable. Well done for giving a different perspective. Cheers.

Tony Banks is the star of this show- his use of the Mellotron and ARP synth are brilliant. Riding The Scree and The Colony Of Slippermen are stand out tracks. Possibly Peter's best vocal performance as well- The Chamber Of 32 Doors is amazing.

I really like how you appraise each album on its own merit instead of having bias or preconceived notions of them based on which era they're from or who was the singer. I'm a fan since '79 but like all the albums for differing reasons, some a LOT more than others. What I can't stand are the snobs who will cut Genesis off right from the moment Hackett left in '77. Post Hackett Genesis still had a lot of prog in it. Consider Duke's Travels or Home By The Sea. You mean to tell me those aren't proggier than Seven Stones, Your Own Special Way or Carpet Crawlers?!! Ah, but because they're on an 80s Genesis album they must be crap? Thanks for your honest and unbiased views lads. Enjoyed that.
@johnmavroudis20544 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's "snobby" to acknowledge a noticeable drop off in creativity after Hackett left. While I think "And Then There Were Three" and "Duke" were very good albums, I hardly listen to anything after that.... Hackett (like Gabriel) brought a healthy dose of creativity and risk-taking that disappeared after they left.

it depends if you like the whole Prog thing, for my money Prog is just self indulgent cosplay lord of the rings nonsense and extremely boring to boot, far more talent is needed to create a catchy 2 minute pop song that the world remembers, which is what the band did more so in the late seventies and early eighties.

It’s different with Peter singing, more arty. Trick of the Tail is superb once Phil takes over on vocals. It’s a masterpiece, Dance on a Volcano, Squonk, Ripples, Los Endos are superb. I like all the albums really, but the Gabriel stuff is not as accessible as the Collins stuff. Essential Genesis Tracks:- The Knife Fountain of Salmacis Watcher of The Skies Firth of Fifth The Lamb Lies Down Ripples One For The Vine Burning Rope Behind The Lines/Duchess Abacab Home by The Sea/Second Domino - Parts 1&2 Dreaming While You Sleep Essential B-Sides: Inside and Out You Might Recall Submarine Feeding The Fire

I think the real dividing line in Genesis between their 'prog' and 'pop' periods is not Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. It's the often overlooked Steve Hackett who left after 'Wind & Withering' (During the mixing of the magnificent 'Seconds Out' live album). The remaining 3 went on with 'And Then There Were Three' with (the mostly) shorter and less complicated sounding songs including the hit 'Follow Me Follow You'. Their next album 'Duke' gave a nod back to their 'prog' time and from then on it went poppier etc. As with most music I think a person's preference is what they grew up with/first encountered. For me I came on board with the release of Wind & Wuthering so, after the release of Seconds Out and with the release of 'And Then There Were Three' onwards I'm not so keen (especially after 'Duke')/ Bit that's just my choice! each to their own

*MY GENESIS LIST* 15. *CALLING ALL STATIONS* : *1997* [There's not much I can say about this album that hasn't already been said for years. It is the weakest and worst album from these guys. I actually think Ray Wilson gets a bad rap. He may have been an odd choice, but he's a technically great singer. I wish they had actually stayed together and made one more record. This lineup would've actually had to time to properly collaborate (unlike on this album) and the end result would've been better.] 14. *WE CAN'T DANCE* : *1991* [Overly sanitized production. So many Adult Contemporary vibes. It ruins the majority of the songs from this one. I absolutely cant stand 'I Can't Dance.' It is sooo annoying and has NOT aged well in any way. 'Driving The Last Spike' 'No Son Of Mine' and the amazing 'Fading Lights' are the only reasons I have for coming back to this album.] 13. *FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION* : *1969* [Baby GENESIS. They were 17-19 years old when they made this record. Some of their first ever written songs are here. Musically its very indicative of the bands influences (Beatles, Moody Blues, Donovan, etc.) and it doesn't have any ties to what they would go on to do. But if you love 60's music (which I very much do) this one is worth spinning. 12. *INVISIBLE TOUCH* : *1986* [Genesis fully embrace their pop side and drop the biggest record of their career (at least by this point). I don't see it as their "sell out" album. This was a conscious decision to go down this route. Over the course of many albums, it gradually led to an album like this. Over 15 years into their professional career and they drop an album with many Top 10 hits and the album itself charting high all over the world. That's really impressive. They earned the success this record brought them. Every bit of it. 'Land Of Confusion' 'Tonight Tonight Tonight' and 'Throwing It All Away are my favorites from this one]. 11. *ABACAB* : *1981* [What a weird record. Lots of musical variation (Proto-Prog, Prog Pop, New Wave, and Experimental Rock, etc) which makes the album lack cohesion but it still makes for an interesting spin. The album gets a bad rap and is often looked at as the bands worst, which I totally disagree with. 'No Reply At All' is a great example of a Prog band writing a pop song, and doing it right! 'Keep It Dark' is very of the times with its New Wave leanings, but it has great hooks and has a prog-like feel. 'Dodo/Lurker' is the highlight track for me. Its aggressive and hypnotic at its core and Im all for it. My only wish for the album is that 'Another Record' and 'Like It Or Not' should've been swapped out with 'You Might Recall' and 'Paperlate.' Would've made this album soooo much better.] 10. *TRESPASS* : *1970* [The first prog record from these guys, and it's decent. Peter Gabriel truly discovers how great of a voice he has. Anthony Philips is killing it on each track. Great drumming from John Mayhew. Its not their most impressive album, but for Genesis, as their 2nd record, it was a huge leap in the right direction. 'Looking For Someone' and The Knife' are my favorites from this album]. 9. *...AND THEN THERE WERE THREE* : *1978* [I look at this solely as a transitional album. Its 50% Prog/50% Pop. It was the first record that gained them mainstream appeal with 'Follow You Follow Me', which was the most radio friendly thing they had ever released. However the album showcases great playing from all 3 members. Phil Collins slays as a drummer on this album ('Down And Out' being an ultimate example of that). Tony Banks delivers great synth work. Rutherford is clearly not on the level of Steve Hackett as a guitarist, but does a decent job at covering that base. The majority of the record is really strong. All in all, not bad at all.] 8. *GENESIS* : *1983* [I feel like this record is a bit underrated and deserves more shine. The production and overall musical feel on this album is very consistent, no matter which track. 'Mama' should go down as one of the greatest Genesis tracks of all time. I love the way it builds. The laugh is perfect. And it SLAMS. Never discount Collins as a vocalist. This record shows him in peak form as a singer. His range at this point was ridiculous. 'Home By The Sea' is essential listening. 'Silver Rainbow' is a deep cut more people should know about. One of the more solid releases from their 80's output. Very good]. 7. *WIND AND WUTHERING* : *1976* [Last album with Steve Hackett as guitarist. Its often looked at as the progy-er counterpart to A TRICK OF THE TAIL and I see why. More instrumentals. Its a little bit more adventurous and risk taking. Apart from the ballad 'Your Own Special Way,' the band really flexes their Prog chops and showed that they still had plenty of game in that genre. 'In That Quiet Earth' is the highlight for me]. 6. *FOXTROT* : *1972* [2nd album with the Gabriel/Rutherford/Collins/Hackett/Banks lineup, and DAMN. It did not take them long to find their sound. This album is a Prog Rock masterpiece. Gold medal. 'Watcher Of The Skies' 'Get Em Out By Friday' and the immaculately epic 'Supper's Ready are all the reasons you need for checking this album out]. 5. *TRICK OF THE TAIL* : *1976* [Gabriel leaves the band and the music press are quick to write the band's obituary. And then the group comes back with THIS record, effectively shutting everyone down. They were far from dead. Its Phil Collins's first album as the lead vocalist and he does an admirable job. Not a boring moment on this album, apart from 'Robbery Assault and Battery (Its incredibly dorky and hokey, even though Banks drops a fantastic keyboard solo in the middle part of the track. I just wish it was played on a better song!). 'Ripples' blows me away every time I hear it. 'Dance On A Volcano' is an A Class piece of music, and 'Los Endos' is one of the best album closers Ive ever heard. THAT is how you end an album]. 4. *NURSERY CRYME* : *1971* [The first record with Steve Hackett and a 19 year old Phil Collins, and it opens strong with the classic 'The Musical Box'. The production is a bit dry, but it doesn't ruin the listening experience. You can hear thag the new lineup isn't fully settled in but they still came through and created a interesting album with a consistent sound. Exceptional effort. Also, Harold The Barrel is a good bit of fun. And what the hell is a Hogweed?] 3. *DUKE* : *1980* [My favorite album made by the Collins/Rutherford/Banks lineup. This is also Phil's first record to see him contributing as a songwriter. Its a truly unified effort between all 3 members, and you hear it. Kinda wish they paired together the songs that made up the 'Duke Suite', but I like the track arrangement for what it is. 'Behind The Lines' & 'Duchess' do such a great job at setting this record up at the start. 'Duke's Travels' and 'Duke's End' are both stunning and wrap the album up in such a great way. The whole album is equal parts exciting, compelling, emotional and soaring. To all you Collins-Era haters out there, you cannot tell me this record isnt good]. 2. *SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND* : *1973* [Amazing story telling. Epic instrumentation. Soaring dynamics. Incredibly skilled musicianship is being showcased from each member. Everyone is firing off on all cylinders. 'Cinema Show' 'Firth Of Fifth' 'Dancing With The Moonlit Knight' and 'I Know What I Like' are all quintessential Genesis tracks. Another Prog classic and overall essential Genesis record]. 1. *THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY* : *1974* [The last record with the classic lineup, and in my opinion, its their best and my absolute favorite Genesis record. Its one of my favorite double albums of all time, and its paired together with a Great story and concept. Production wise, I feel this is the best this lineup ever sounded on record. Everyone is contributing on all levels. Gabriel's captivating vocals and musical narration, glorious syncopated rhythms from Collins, atmospheric and emotional playing from Hackett, incredibly thoughtful and melodic playing from Banks, and Mike Rutherford being the foundation and glue to hold it all together. I also love that the album has sooo many great songs that you can cherry pick and take away from the story/concept, and they still stand up on their own. 'In The Cage' 'Carpet Crawlers' 'Back In NYC' 'Counting Out Time' 'TLLDOB' 'It'....I could go on and on. For me, its the absolute BEST Genesis record]. One of my favorite bands of all time. I love that you guys took on this discography. Your lists were incredibly interesting and better than most rankings of their albums that I've seen on YT. Now my thumbs hurt from typing all this out. I listened to the albums in order of release and can't decide between From Genesis To Revelation or Trespass as my favourite. There's just a deep mystery about the band from the earliest days up to Foxtrot. They seem to lose a certain quality after Genesis Live. A Trick Of The Tail through And Then There Were Three is a truly great time however. Yet from Duke onwards they end up sounding like what's going on around them. Pretty similar to Pink Floyd with The Wall and Yes with Drama. The difference between a forest and a city.

I don't consider Calling All Stations a Genesis album. They are my favorite band but I never bothered to buy Calling All Stations. We Can't Dance is boring. But I absolutely love all their other albums. I also include Voyage Of The Acolyte, it is very much like a Genesis album but without Banks and Gabriel. It is an absolute classic. There were so many songs that got lost from the Trespass area. Luckily some survived like Let Us Now Make Love and Pacidy for example. Spot The Pigeon is also great, I love Match Of The Day in spite of the band and many fans hating it. Foxtrot is my absolute favorite Genesis album. But the albums Selling England By The Pound and Trick Of A Tail are also great favorites. I find The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway a bit spooky but still great. Their albums are so unique and special in their own ways that it's really difficult to rank them against each other. There were also some great songs that didn't make it to the early 80's album, like the b-side Evidence Of Autumn.

No doubt as to where my loyalties lie, in terms of "era": 1) Selling England By the Pound 2) Nursery Cryme 3) Foxtrot 4) Lamb 5) Trick Of The Tail Having said all that Phil Collins remains on my Mount Rushmore of drummers along with Bonzo, Peart and Barrie Barlow of Jethro Tull. I'm very surprised by your rankings. I struggle with their body if work and tend rmto think in terms of the Hackett era, pre Hackett and post Hackett. This means I love Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited live albums. I have two studio albums ranked as 10/10, meaning I think they are brilliant. These are Selling England By The Pound and A Trick of the Tail. Trick is where I came into the band back on 76 and I saw them first of the Wind and Wuthering tour in 77. I continued to go to concerts until about 1983. By then I felt they'd moved a long way from what I liked and they were too much focused on Colin's and Banks.

Really like this channel. Nice to see you guys have different opinions on a band's discography. Indeed the Genesis fanbase is really divided between the Gabriel era on the one hand and the Phil era on the other. Since I, like Ryan, grew up on Seconds Out, I tend to agree with most of his list, especially at the top. TotT or Wind and Wuthering would be no.1 for me. Also like Duke a lot. Personally I would rate Nursery Crime and Foxtrot higher, although they can sometimes be exhausting listens. But why someone would rate Abacab as the best Genesis album is really beyond me. Although, I applaud them for trying something a bit different, I find the material on there quite weak and it contains the most annoying Genesis track ever (whodunnit).

I am certainly among those who prefer the earlier era of Genesis better than their later work. I don't mind the singles from the 80s, but the album tracks during that time, don't do it for me. I do understand they needed the change. The prog era lasted a couple of years and the bands that were big in that genre either quit or moved into other directions. My list reflects the preference for the older material. I wish I could put Tressoass higher. The best songs on that album are among my favorites, but it has a few weaker moments, where Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound are great from start to finish. 15 Calling All Stations 14 We cant Dance 13 From Genesis To Revelation 12 Invisible Touch 11 Abacab 10 Genesis 9 And Then There Were Three 8 Duke 7 Wind & Wuthering 6 The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 5 A Trick Of The Tail 4 Nursery Cryme 3 Trespass 2 Foxtrot 1 Selling England By The Pound

Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins, which era is better? That has never been a dispute. Most people agree that it was correct to find the successor of Peter Gabriel within the band. Before or after Steve Hackett's departure from the band, THAT is the question. But there is only one correct answer.

The problem with artists like Phil Collins and Billy Joel is that they are not interesting to the press as individuals. They don't have green hair, tatoos on their face , pierced eye lids. Their life stories aren't really gripping stories, there's no poverty, fathers beating their wives or hard drugs. So for the press, these guys aren't real artists. However talk to other musicians and it's a different story. Both are revered among their peers. And being ordinary they connect with millions, add to that some very catchy and interesting music which makes them extremely popular.

You're not alone in ranking abacab low. I get that fans of the earlier proggier stuff might not like the poppier direction of the band around this time, but the production and mixing of this record alone should warrant a higher score than 2/10, even if musically its not your cup of tea. I agree that FGTR warrants a little bit more love than most fans give it, Abacab deserves a LOT more love than most give it and that Foxtrot is (slightly) overrated. The Peter and Phil eras of Genesis both are fantastic and have many wonderful songs. Some interesting album placements. I’m not one of those fans who is on one side of the fence or the other with respect to Gabriel and Collins . That said , I was in my late teens and early 20s when the Gabriel era was in full swing . The first Genesis concert that I went to was in December of 74 , The Lamb tour with Gabriel . Musically, it was sensational, with the bonus of seeing Gabriel command the stage in those wild costumes. The next concert I went to was the Trick of the Tail tour in 76 , with the great Bill Bruford joining Collins on drums . This was quite a different spectacle, but no less enjoyable ( or sensational ) . Anyway , I enjoy both camps , but lean more towards the Gabriel years . My list in order of preference: Selling England by the Pound Foxtrot ( with the great Time Table ) Trick of the Tail. ( Mad Man Moon is the gem for me ) The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Wind & Wuthering And Then There Were 3 Nursery Cryme Duke Abacab Genesis Trespass Invisible Touch From Genesis to Revelation I Can’t Dance Calling All Stations Thanks !

I just listened to all of Genesis' albums recently. I'm 23 so I didn't grow up with them in the 70s or 80s or even 90s. Or at all really since they weren't a relevant band in the mainstream during the 2010s when I was a teenager, so I don't have biases for or against certain eras or sounds. I love both Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel eras of the band equally, as you'll see in my ranking which is gonna piss off so many people 15. Calling All Stations - this is not a bad album by any times. I actually like it. But it's not really that great. The title track is one of Genesis' best songs but there's nothing else I really love on the album. Nothing bad however. 2.5/5. 14. Nursery Cryme - Good album. I don't really get the hype for this one though. I think they did much better stuff after this. 3/5. 13. Wind and Wuthering - I dunno, this album is good, but all the songs sound the same. It's got a cool vibe to it. 3/5 12. And Then There Were Three - My criticism of this one is the same as Wind and Wuthering, except there are a few more memorable songs. 3/5. 11. Trespass - Really solid album. "Dusk" and "Visions of Angels" are really good tracks. 3.5/5 10. From Genesis to Revelation - A surprisingly good psych pop album with elements of folk and baroque pop. "The Serpent" is pretty great. I'm glad they went more prog but they would've done well going down this direction too. 3.5/5 9. We Can't Dance - At points, this album is pretty boring and drowsy since it's more adult contemporary, but the highlights are really great. It's just very uneven. "Jesus He Knows Me" and "I Can't Dance" are excellent songs. 3.5/5. 8. The Lamb Dies Down on Broadway - I don't really understand the story or concept of the album. Actually, I don't really understand the point of the story or concept. But the musicianship is astounding on this album. This album is growing on me though. In six months, it might be in the Top 5. 4/5. 7. A Trick of the Tail - this album has really grown on me. First listen I didn't like it. Second listen I liked it. Third and fourth listens I'm really loving it. Really solid and consistent. The title track is my favourite on the album. 4.5/5. 6. Genesis - They dive head deep in pop, but they do an outstanding job in it. "Illegal Alien", I actually really like that song. It's lyrically question, but it's so goddamn catchy. "That's All", "Mama" and "Taking It All Too Hard" are all great songs too. And it flows very well. 4.5/5. 5. Foxtrot - What brings Foxtrot down is that the four songs in between "Watcher of the Skies" and "Supper's Ready" are nowhere near as good as those songs. But how can they be when the two aforementioned tracks are some of the best songs ever written. 4.5/5 4. Abacab - Extremely strong album. All great tracks that are very memorable and catchy yet still complex. I love "Who Dunnit?", it's so freaking weird and goofy. "No Reply At All", "Man on the Corner", "Me and Sarah Jane" are other standouts. 5/5. 3. Duke - This is still very much a prog album, but it has a good dosage of pop rock in it, which helps in my ears make the music more accessible. It sounds great as well. "Turn It On Again", "Man of Our Times", "Misunderstanding", "Behind the Lines", "Heathaze" and "Alone Again" are fantastic tracks. 5/5 2. Invisible Touch - A pinnacle of 80s pop. I love all the songs on this album. "Invisible Touch" is a great pop song. "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" is kinda weird and experimental for them at this point. "In Too Deep" is the weakest song on the album but it's still a good ballad. "Land of Confusion" might be 2nd favourite Genesis song. It's an amazing song with an even better music video. "Anything She Does" and "Throwing It All Away" are very catchy. "The Brazilian" is a cool way to end the album. "Domino" is a harkening back to their old style in being long and complex. Love this album. Super underrated and underappreciated. It's not prog, but taken for what it is, it's outstanding. Can't believe anyone would say this is a bad album. 5/5 1. Selling England by the Pound - pound for pound, song for song, their best. "Firth of Firth" is actually my least favourite song on the album but it's still a great song and the piano intro is iconic. "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight" is my favourite Genesis song and might be my favourite prog song of all time. "More Fool Me" is very delicate and a good early Phil Collins composition. "The Battle of Epping Forest" is such a lyrically dense song but it's so weird and cool at the same time. Totally Peter Gabriel with the English eccentricity. "After the Ordeal" is a lovely Steve Hackett led song. "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" has a great chorus. "The Cinema Show/Aisle of Plenty" is an incredible way to end the album. 5/5

I agree that really through the self titled Genesis record in 1983 yes they got poppier but they still had a certain amount of art rock and cool instrumentation, it was not all just disposable pop as some people like to portray. Ok invisible touch started to push the limits and then as you pointed out We can’t dance really felt phoned in for much of it. I find it a snooze and way too long. Interesting. I'm sure that you know that many prog aficionados, not to mention musicians love Foxtrot. Many consider it to be one of the ten greatest prog records ever made. It has a lot more depth than most people realize. There are many social, historical and literary references made in the album. I didn't know any of that stuff when I first heard it. I still loved it and it remains among my favorite records of the genre. No matter ! I enjoyed the clip. It's nice to be a bit surprised. Most of the time these lists are pointless because it's always the same records in the top half. You guys mixed it up a bit and I like that. Phil Collins gets way too much hate/attention in general, remember that Banks and Rutherford were equal forces behind all the commercial 80s records. We cant Dance has some amazing songs, Fading Lights, Driving the last spike anyone? I love the PG era but in truth they were young prentetious bickering men, all of their individual music and group effort got better as they aged and egos calmed down. Thats why i personally feel that the first years of Collins are superb. They are stronger as a trio, but if you dont like commercial 80s pop then it isnt for you.

@@TastesLikeMusic "Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your a**hole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. Bold take on the Genesis discography. Neither a fan of the self-titled, nor Abacab. Especially the latter has a few great individual tracks while the majority on it is somewhere between forgettable and terrible.
The real cryme here is having Trespass at number 2. - Joe

No prog band continued their early prog roots. All this PG vs. PC stuff is nonsense. Peter Gabriel's solo career was quite pop. Sledgehammer? Big Time? Digging in the Dirt? All pop. I've watched countless interviews with the band, and they all said they would be changing as the years went by. Anyway: 15. From Genesis to Revelations 14. Trespass 13. Calling All Stations 12. Nursery Cryme 11. We Can't Dance 10. And Then There Were 3 9. Lamb Lies Down (lots of good stuff, great stuff, but lots that doesn't really work too) 8. Fox Trot (Supper's Ready is a classic certainly and lots of good stuff, but some stuff doesn't work too) 7. Genesis 6. Invisible Touch (come on, Domino and Tonight, Tonight Tonight, and The Brazilian along Land of Confusion are great songs) 5. Selling England By the Pound 4. Abacab 3. Duke 2. Wind and Wuthering 1. Trick of the Tail

I’m not even in this video. And I disagree with its ranking. But Genesis fans seem to have a wildly misguided view of what critics think about these early albums. Prog heads love em, but you’re kind of living in your own bubble. - Joe

I will never understand why "...and then they were three..." ,a true outstanding masterwork, is always so low ranked by so many people...

Me neither. For me, is better than Abacab, Invisible Touch and We Can´t Dance. And also above C.A.S. and From G to R.

I came in around Duke, and backtracked to Gabriel. You have to remember that the bands existing following didn't like the shift from prog to pop. Also, I remember pop Genesis fans in the 80s being extremely elitist about 80s Genesis, compared with the dated 70s version. And Invisible Touch is nothing if not the definition of mid 80s pop.

Gabriel or Collins? From their album rankings it seems pretty obvious it should be Collins. Both of their no. 1 picks had Phil Collins as the singer. And I disagree with Kramzer's complaint that the title track as the first track on Abacab wasn't right. It's perfect as it just bursts out like a race horse setting the pace for the rest of the album.

Jason kills me. Looks like he's riding a flying dolphin against the borealis jamming to a Herman score on double speed.

A lot of bands "sold out" in the 80s. Put another way a lot of bands that were great in the 70s sucked in the 80s.

In 1981 I went out with a girl who drove a white mustang,which was great. What wasn't great is she had Abacab on 8-track and played it on repeat. I never have to hear it again. I have no interest in the Phil Collins 80's stuff,except Duke which is good. I think Trick of the Tail is their most underated album. I also think Foxtrot HAS to be in their top 5,along with SEBTP and LLDOB. Trick of the Tail and Duke would be my other two. Great channel guys!
