Honestly One Of Genesis' finest works, An extremely underappreciated track, in such an album. So many memories, and emotion is revealed from this for me, and what a time. What I love most about this album as well, was the thought process that went through it, each hit has a story to tell, and this one seems obvious. Long Live Genesis man. 👑

Lyrics to this great track! ⏳🔥 There is never a time to say Cause it seems to me we've lost our way So we carry on, down the road And we live our lives haunted by All the things we say and do Keep on missing, when I'm alone with you No there's never a time to change You don't get a chance to rearrange It's a long, long way to go Just to find out something, we both know Can't you see what's going on It's so sad, that a love so strong, has gone All I know is what is true All I ask is for you to Just look around and see You live your life locked in a dream Where nothing is real, and not what it seems We can't go on another day Just being afraid to say It's a long long way to fall When we both thought we had it all Well you know it's the time to say Cause we're all played out, we've lost our way Oh, I'd hoped that you would Be oh so understanding And by now you'd see, but oh no So sad, so sad, that's the way that it goes I know, I'm gonna tell you right now

Love this song. Bought this album at 22 years of age. I was a senior in college. I guess I somehow thought I was growing wise as the lyrics suggest the wisdom of retrospection. This is an underrated Genesis track. Very much like “Taking it All Too Hard” from their 1983 album. Never got an official video but a fantastic song!

This is quite the painful ballad- with many unspoken truths.
Phil had a fair bit of trouble getting the vocals right on this one, as seen in the _No Admittance_ documentary. Phil: Turn that f*cking camera off for a minute! _[Mike & Nick Davis laugh]_ Phil: Sometimes you get blocks, there was a block when we did "B.B. Hit" _[the working title for "Never a Time"],_ for some reason I was singing out of tune, and I was getting very frustrated, so I went out for a bike ride, came back, and it was alright, really.

Mike Rutherford was apparently surprised PC wanted to bother coming back to do another Genesis album after Invisible Touch, given his solo success. But you forget Dance overall was an underrated record. A bit overloaded with long pieces and an odd track order but the individual pieces still more than stand up fine.
