I love that Steve continues to perform the amazing work of Genesis. I actually saw them in '77 and'78, then Peter Gabriel in '79. I was a rabid Genesis fan in high school. I've been waiting for Hackett to perform somewhere closer to me.

As close to prog perfection as it gets. The perfect storm. A time and style that can't be matched before or since. Love The Gabriel versions too, but this has such an awesome mix of technical playing & emotion. Thunderous megatons of Moog mixed with the sweet pastels of mellotron - and meter by THE MAN: Bruford. This is the best sounding/looking upload of this track on YT, believe me I've seen 'em all so I can hit the bookmark on this one when I need my fix. Epic.

The part that amazes me all the time is the part after the bridge when guitarists and drums resume playing in 9/8 while Tony Banks starts playing in 7/8. Imagine how hard that is to keep track of your own timescale, especially for Tony Banks.

Eventhough i love Hackett and Gabriel s contributions to Genesis, it was obvious that the Tony Mike Phil pack was where the core of the bands creativity was, just like Ritchie Lord Paice on purple. Get Tony Mike or Phil out and genesis wouldnt have worked as good even with Steve or Peter still on the menu. Granted they continued to carry on after the other two departures despite prog pricks turning their backs on them, since their brand of pop and rock was as refreshing and as good although different from their former style we grew up loving so much. Love genesis, hate prog fans.

This is a Peter song forever, however my favourite version of the song is that live version from 1976 with Hackett on guitar and Bruford on drums, takes it to another level instrumentally! Also Phil does a great job on vocals even though I will always prefer Peter for this song, but instrumentally this live version is another level completely! After "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", "Supper's Ready" is a very close second as the greatest progressive rock piece ever written!

The only aspects missing here are the stereo sound image (which we get on Second's Out, recorded a year later, of course) and the added heavy funkiness that Chester brought to the band - but other than that, this is pretty much on a level with the classic 1977 live recording. There is a soundcheck recording without vocals that's been circulating since the 1990s - I heard it when it surfaced last year on KZbin, but now the upload is gone - it's from a pre-show soundcheck tape, most likely London in January1977. Phil isn't present I think and there's no audience, but the other four are there and the sound is heavier and clearer than on Second's Out (because there's been less compression added as Phil's vocals were absent)...it's a truly roaring tape and gives off the feeling of what it would have been like to hear them really up close in concert at the time.

WHERE IS PART ONE THIS NEEDS TO BE A COMPLETE FILM OF THIS PARTICULAR LIVE PERFORMANCE FROM 1976.. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FACT THAT GENESIS CONCERT FILMS ARE ALREADY BROKEN UP INTO PIECES.. IT'S SIMPLY NOT THE SAME I'VE WITNESSED GENESIS LIVE DURING THE 1976 1977 TOURS.. HAVE SEEN SEVEN SHOWS FROM THE 1976 TOUR UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL.. AND 10 SEPARATE CONCERTS FROM THE 1977 TOUR.. THESE WERE THE BEST YEARS OF THE GENESIS MUSICAL BOX LED BY PHIL COLLINS EVER.. I AM SO VERY GLAD TO HAVE BEEN ALIVE AND OLD ENOUGH TO SEE THESE SHOWS.. ONE COULD NEVER IMAGINE TO BE SO LUCKY.. THE ERA OF ICONIC MUSICAL ACTS AND BELOVED MUSICAL SUBSTANCE OF THIS TYPE.. IS NOW OVER DONE AND GONE.. NEVER TO BE EXPERIENCED AGAIN IN PERSON BY ANYBODY.. EXCEPT FOR AUDIO AND FILM.. I CAN STILL PLAY BACK IN MY HEAD BOTH VISUALLY AND AUDIBLY WHAT I EXPERIENCED FROM 1976 TO THE END OF 1977 WITNESSING GENESIS LIVE.. THESE MEMORIES ARE PRECIOUS OH HOW I WISH I COULD COMMIT THEM TO FILM.. BUT I'LL ASK NO ONE CAN BECAUSE OF THAT PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND THE FACT THAT WHAT YOU CAN SEE IN YOUR MIND'S THIRD EYE AND HEAR WITH YOUR INTERNAL VOLUME COULD NEVER BE PLACED ON CELLULOID. @paulcarfantan6688
@paulcarfantan6688 Жыл бұрын
Well apparently there was a German guy who filmed about 45 minutes of a Lamb concert on 16 millimeter film. There is a twenty seconds sample from it from the song "In the cage" and a few seconds from "The Lamia" and also of Gabriel applying make up to his face backstage to portray Rael. I first saw these samples on a Vhs biography of the group in the late 1990`s and couldn`t believe my eyes. Problem is, it seems like the German guy has always wanted to keep the footage for himself. Besides that you have footage from French tv of the song "Counting out time" with really good quality except it`s in black and white. If someone could colorize it, I`m sure that it would look great. For the rest there is quite a bit of 8 millimeter footage, but the image is often grainy and without sound of course. Someone should treat them into HD, that would be a great improvement.

@josedealbuquerquejr.941
@josedealbuquerquejr.941 2 жыл бұрын
@GraachAhim
@GraachAhim 2 жыл бұрын
Li isso no excelente livro "Genesis - Chapter and Verse".

@@GraachAhim também tem uma entrevista muito boa dele aqui no KZbin, onde ele fala que deveria ter tido outra postura com o Genesis, isso é muito positivo e uma prova que as observações que estamos fazendo procedem

The organ in place of the flute, oh boy it sucks. The drumming sucks and it is too loud. U can barely hear the keyboards. It sucks.

"Can't hear the keyboards?!?" Wasn't ever said about a Genesis song from the Prog years. If anything, we don't hear enough of Steve Hackett's guitar except for recordings like this. As for Bruford's drumming, (a) he just joined for the tour; (b) most of his innovations are tremendous, but not all of them work (part of being an innovator, not a rote performer), and (c) Apparently, the band liked him, as they offered him membership, which he declined. I do miss Peter's flute, however...
