@@ZaraKane yeah tons of people at my work want to get into, but they say it's very costly and they don't know where to start. I just tell them to pick what looks cool or start watching lore videos, or even converting/painting videos. I find it really hard for people to get into the hobby, it can be very costly, and time consuming. I've also got a 3d printer and offered to print things for people, and I've tried to teach people how to play, but I feel I am not the best, and the games got huge bloated rules. 10th is looking a bit simpler, but it's still rough.

My idea is to have 2 neophyte units in the back of my deployment acting as fire support and standing on objectives to farm cp, then once you hit turn 3 or 4, use return to the shadows and pick them up and move them to the other side of the board to shoot at whatever you really need dead.

Use rapid ingress from reserve if you want to succeed in your charges, then you come in on the enemy turn (just try to be out of line of sight)

i think it kinda fits the fluff. gsc used to be all about trickery and cunning. we stuck to the shadows because we needed to keep surviving to create the next generation. But now that Hive fleet Leviathan is shifting into high gear, it's time to amass all our forces and charge together into glorious battle for the star children. I played 2 games yesterday in a competitive environment and brought what I called "trash spam": 4x10 neos with mining lasers and grenade launchers with icon --> one of these had a nexos 2x20 neos with seismic and webbers and icon --> each of these had an accompanying Primus and Nexos for the rerolls and free stratagem 4x5 acolyte with X2 demo, X2 hand flamers, icon 3x10 jackals --> each with an alphus X2 sanctus As much battle line as feasible with the 2 sanctus doing infiltrate denial and assistance, and every bike available for the demolition run ability. First game was against CSM with a brick of termies, possessed, warp talons, and 2x4 oblits. I got the possessed squad with a master of possessions down to a single possessed on 2 wounds (who then dark pact'ed himself to death lol) with the bikes doing their thing and was generally able to just keep him separated from his own army while I congregated in the center and respawned away in a corner to stay at range with the neos. Won this one handily with decent secondary cards for each of us, just beat him on primaries due to him lacking mobility one the possessed and talons dropped. My second round was craftworld Ynari, or however you spell it. I had all 3 of my jackal squads get redeployed to directly face my opponent's wraith knight and got within range, rolled like garbage, but between all 3 units, one of whom got overwatched by the WK with fate dice at the ready and lost 4 models, I brought down the monster before it could wreak havoc on me. I did end up losing the game, however, because my opponent drew secondary cards very useful to him while I did not, and I misplaced my blips and underestimated his speed on everything (like his fly vehicles) and only had 2 come back. BUT had I played a little cagier, put my blips in my home corner to ensure respawn and had a bit more focus and luck I would have been able to take him down! I've adjusted my list to now swap 2 of the neophyte 10 man squads for 2 additional acolyte squads, made a sanctus a kelermorph, and used the 15 leftover points to put prowling on one of the Alphus bikes to keep the pain train rolling.

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. Our book looks full of fun experiments so who knows about Brood Brothers but I do find taking 2 scout sentinels plus a manicore or two intriguing (205/310). I believe SS lets the Ms re-roll 1s and eliminates indirect penalty. Stationary M's indirect rockets hit on 3s and re-roll hits against units of ≥5. Sounds more reliable that way at least.

I am probably going to take 3 sentinels for 150pts and 1 unit of 2 field ordnance batteries for 100pts for my 1k army list. Batteries can take Bombast field gun [BLAST, HEAVY, INDIRECT FIRE] 48" D6 5+ 7 -1 2 or even Heavy lascannon [HEAVY] 48" 2 5+ 14 -3 D6+1.

I forgot to mention basilisk looking very strong due to the earthshaker rounds on infantry, can -2 off movement, advance, and charges. Idk if this is possible, but I don't see any keywords from gsc that says we can't, but you can take a REGIMENTAL ATTACHÉS, but you need to take a platoon command squad. It allows you to give artillery pieces sustained hits +1 and a psychic aura that allows you to stop reinforcements from coming within 12'' of the unit, and aircraft command that gives +1 to hits on ranged attacks.

Re: brood brothers: A platoon command squad with regimental attachés give you a 12" deep strike denial to protect your blips. (Astropath) The basilisk has a move reduction debuff you can help protect blips with, and can chill on your home objective.

Yeah, it is on the way to other synergies you might want to take though, so it's nice to know about. If you take basilisk, scout sentinel, platoon command squad, attachés, heavy weapons team (mortars) you get a neat little artillery package. Master of Ordinance gives you sustained hits on indirect vs what he points at, scout can gives reroll 1s ignore indirect penalty, platoon keyword on the command squad gives the hws mortars 4+ overwatch.

Great stuff, look forward to the next on! You mention that GSC is always very good at the objective game, is that something you could expand on in the future? Considering how fragile the army is, as a newbie I find it hard to keep units alive on an objective until the end of my opponents turn

A neat phenomenon happened with the eldar player too, he tried his best to not completely kill the bikes off, only ever crippling them, to prevent them from coming back and continuing to be annoying. This left me with random groups of bikes with grenade launchers running around in small groups, dropping mortals, doing some krak grenade potshots and otherwise being a frustration waving their arms and daring the opponent to kill them. Couldn't recommend them more

You almost need a big crunchy unit of something like aberants as an option to hide tokens near. Sure you can clear them, but then you are in easy charge range of hammers. I think my first game will involve 3 acolytes, 3 neophytes, and a chunky aberrant unit.

Come on Zara, I need more GSC goodness from you! While Ascension Day might have finally come, some of us are still relatively new to the light of the Four Armed Emperor! I'm struggling to get through games with the sheer number of units and models that I'm fielding as GSC. Even with a non-optimised list of a "mere" 90 or so infantry (10 aberrants, 60 Neos, 20 acos), how do you close out a game given that turns don't get shorter as you lose units - they stay the same length or get longer as I bring in units from deepstrike? I'd love some insight

That speed of playing the game physically comes with experience and practice….I find most of my time is lost in the decision making….

Just to clarify something probably fairly obvious. When and if you have multiple markers on the table, at the end of your opponents next reinforcements stage (you can bring back ONE) new unit back to the table?

One question I'm having so far is: Does Cult Ambush count as a form of Reserves and/or does setting up from Cult Ambush count as setting up as Reinforcements. If the answer to either/both is no, then the detachment ability is a non-synergy with the army rule. I can't find definitive language anywhere, at least with a 10 minute search.

I don’t think we lose vs fast armies, if you can zone them out or bait them. For example most fast armies are not horde armies and can’t be everywhere at once. You can control the fast armies movement by making them choose to run out of positions to remove the blip or not. For example leave a blip in a position we’re the unit has to move way out of position to remove it, or if the do move to one it leaves them in charge range of another unit. Hard sure, but over throwing the truants mutants and ascending was never easy!

Well - having seen the points we should have plenty on the board regardless of respawns, they will just make it hard to capitalise on cult ambush easily is my worry

@@ZaraKane agreed. The nature of the cult is its a lot hard the build on pure theory. Local metas and the general your facing play way more than data sheet power. It gives me 3rd Ed dark eldar vibes of mind games to play the player bit the game.

This edition just broke my heart with removing subfactions, spells, actual cost for loadout and gear and forcing people to play at Power Levels with fixed unit sizes, pretending those are points. The game just lost almost the whole aspect of roster building and player's ability to tinker on their own playstyle. For example, acolytes had so many different roles and usages depending on gear you put on those guys - from masters of carnage with mining weapons full squad and buffs, to simple bare dudes fighting enemy in melee with their efficient point costs, pretending to be smaller ork boyz or with full flamer squads to mow down the enemy with overwhelming number of hits, combing it with stratagems to wound easier. Now there is no reason on any army not to take full gear, and the roles are reduced to just one of those, while mixing between efficiency and how heavy have you geared your dudes trying to balance out the point soak into the unit is gone. Wish you good battles brood brothers, but this game is no longer for me. Where is the crossfire rule, arguably the most fun rule in the game, to actually pull of, rewarding you for your actions on the table, instead of giving a flat passive buff because codex says so? Where are special deepstrikes with wacky abilities you could buy for additional points? I was hoping they would go in this direction with most factions, to make the game more interactive and tactical, but instead we only got pruning of previously established rules and ideas.

Trust me no one is more heartbroken about Acolyte diversity loss than me. I think you need to realise however this is just launch day index’s. All of that flavour is going to be reinjected over the next 2 years. They just had to scale it back in the meantime.
