Are mutations truly random? Can it be insanely difficult to predict but not random? If yes, then, would we be able to predict evolutionary future of a species with high confidence in the future?

Mutations are random. Evolution doesn't have any specific goal. If the random mutations are favourable for the organism it will survive and continue its next generation with newly mutated character. If the mutations are unfavourable the organism gets eliminated by the natural selection.It's all about "survival of the fittest "
