Love Genie!! There would probably be no General Hospital these days without Luke and Laura. It was on the brink of Cancelation in the late '70's. Yes, there have been some other great pairings, but L & L were pure golden magic. I watched their story play out in real time and it was months and years of real romance, so much love and exciting intrigue. I will always love them for that!!!❤❤

As much as I completely love Laura, my heart breaks that Genie had to endure all of this pain and that she was treated in such a horrific way. Now I would have to say ONLY if Genie feels right about a return and does so, would I be happy about it. I am truly mortified that GH { The Network ABC} was so selfish in not thinking what was in the best interest of Genie. Her HEALTH, education { them STRONGLY encouraging her not to graduate} . Checking on her general sense of well being, its appaulling to me and makes me VERY angry. Overall, I love Genie and anything that makes HER happy and fulliflled. The memories of L&L are still wonderful to me but not quite the same now.

She was honored as GH's "million dollar lady" on the cover of People, with the return of Laura. A most phenomenal homage to such a superb, human, sweet, and gorgeous actress. Unbeknownst to much of fandom, the aches and pains she suffered, in how she was treated. Labeling her as too girly or weak, and too pretty for Daytime etc. instead of respecting her achievements on the series. Later, when she did North and South she finally received some respect in the industry.

Godspeed Genie Francis! As I say, we all struggle with something we have to keep in check. An addiction, or issue, of one sort or another. Those of us to say we don’t, are liars, and just not true to themselves! Dear One, I just loved watch this program right now!! I am saddened because of course we knew nothing of your struggles at the time! And I am really sorry that you went through that but thankful to the Lord Jesus that you came out so strong on the other end of it! I am so proud of you!! Watching you get married, WITH the REST of AMERICA & WORLD, while being IN LABOR, with my first child, was just the craziest thing!!! They barely had TVs in labor rooms back in the day, and the labor room was about the size of a closet, it seemed!! Oh course, the price at the end was well worth it all! She’s 38-year-old special education teacher today, who I am proud as heck of, as your father was always so proud of you!! And, too, I am proud of you Genie!! Thank you for sharing your story!! Thank you though, a very special thank you for speaking out about ADDICTION!!!! The more we speak of it, the less stigmatized it will become. My own son goes to the methadone clinic every single day because he was addicted to H for 15+ years! He’s 35. Like I said, we all struggle. Although I was sad too see her go in 1981 I am so glad that Genie did what was best for her. She got help and got her life straightened out and that is more important that the fans disappointment in her leaving GH. Her fan base was still there for her when she recovered and came back and are there for her now.

I am so saddened that GH has come to an end, hopefully temporarily, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I have been watching for almost 40 years, since I was 12 years old. GH has become a part of my daily routine. I especially feel that void due to being quarantined, when so much has been lost and is uncertain. But in quarantine, for the first 2 months, I could always count on one thing and that was cuddling up on my favorite chair in my living room with a nice cup of coffee, to watch GH every day at 3 o’clock, until May 21st the last episode. I knew that the last episode was coming, but when that last day finally came, I was sad. I only hope that GH resumes after this is all over. For now, I will enjoy the reruns. It would be really great if they would play the soap from the beginning in 1963. I missed about the first 18 years. However, not much time for that if they resume taping soon, I guess. I am the biggest GH fan. I lived through the Luke & Laura years in the 80s, and their famous wedding on Nov 17, 1981. When I was in the 7th grade, I used to write “I ❤️ Luke” and “Luke is #1” on my notebooks, and I used to run home after school every day to watch. Ha. I haven’t thought of that in years. Sue N. I'm an original fan of Genie's going back to 1977. I loved the whole Luke and Laura phenomenon, particularly during 1980 and '81. This program explains a lot of what she went through, and came out the other side. I DO NOT like the fact though that her 'Laura' character was used as a 'stunt' at different times briefly by GH for ratings. I also didn't like it when it looked like she was going to gave a solid role in 2018 but was written out AGAIN. In 2019 and 2020 though, she's been back as Laura as the Mayor of Port Charles on the show. What I love now is that she has a solid role that shows her as a modern woman who's a 2020 version of Laura. She's an independent, strong woman, now married to Kevin Collins. That is not the main focus of her character. She's not 'defined' by a man. She doesn't need to be, and shouldn't be. She also isn't having to 'carry the show'. People that still try to pigeonhole her as 'Laura' of 'Luke and Laura' in 2020, need to stop. I'm not the same person I was 40 years ago, and neither is she. If you haven't seen her on GH recently, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise. She's as great as ever. GH is currently out of episodes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I urge you to watch/DVR the show once it resumes. It's a great show aside from Genie, but she's still my favorite . I think she's probably happy with the compromise of the Laura character today being an important character, but an important part of the show's team. There's a big difference.

I read in a John Martinuzzi interview that Genie Francis' father Ivor was an alcoholic. John Martinuzzi was the original Stavros Cassadine who dated GFrancis for about two years and also an alcoholic. He commented she hated alcoholism and that Martinuzzi's addiction was a factor in their breakup. This makes her story even more sad.
