Yeah all you need is a new showvel handle.. Actually I just cut off the old broken one resaped it with a hatchet and plugged it in and carried on with the job. I have used the shovel now for about a year no problems. I must say though I liked the repair he did given the time which costs more than a new shovel. Subscribed will like to look at his other vids.

Video doesn't show the handle misaligned with the shovel blade - which it WILL be every time you try to tighten the shovel blade on. Excruciatingly difficult 'fix' with major issues. Spend your time and money on a decent quality tool in the first place.

Seems no sense of cost and time he put in, verses the value he generated out of it. A shovel/hoe made this way does not carry the weight nor the strength to do the hoe’s heavy digging job, nor the long handle shovel’s shoveling job.

The threads in the wood won’t hold up. It will constantly loosen up, then finally fail completely. If that short piece was steel and threaded, then it would be a beautiful thing.

@@Alvawelding20 …sorry I am mechanical engineer and also I have garden for 55 years since 1969. That screw is very very weak. It is impossible to use your product in garden you are presenting. The arm is made from Ash wood. The Arm need to be very strong and flexible therefore Ash wood.

I think you would have better off just leaving the metal intact and fitting a new handle--preferably hickory, which that handle was not. When you drilled into the wood and then tapped it I noticed that you were not perpendicular. So the joint is going to be weak and fail IMO. But it did look like you had a bit of fun with it! :)

Quick suggestion, screw the handleshaft to the blade and then install the handle top to insure alignment.

Es un proyecto muy costoso. El campesino no tiene soldadora, electricidad en su chacra, no tiene dólares. Es un proyecto GENIAL pero no inmediato para el agricultor. Salir del campo con tu palana rota con destino a un taller de soldadura es perder tiempo. Mejor le cambio el palo y ya esta subsanada la quebradura.Es mi punto de vista.🙏🙏

"quickly fix a broken shovel handle"? No. it was a process that was quite involved and not done at all quickly -- it was quite a bit of work requiring a lot of specialize tools not readily available to the average DIYer. Innovative, yes. Genius, no. Just a typical fool's errand of reinventing the wheel. This video is schlocky advice. The first clue I got that this was going to be a lot of schmaltz was the finger wagging at the broken shovel handle. Oh my god, a cliche mime act with finger wagging. Somehow by breaking a shovel handle (which was a bit contrived), the Alva Welding guy got the "great" idea to make a hoe out of it which could also be converted into a shovel. And for some obscure reason added a handle like you would find on a short handled spade. So the Alva guy now has a so-so shovel (which the shovel's now very shortened collar will not not provide much strength and will probably break after a little use) and a very clever shovel blade "hoe" (that the hoe part is so wide that getting it into the ground is not going to be easy). Logically, if a convertible shovel/hoe was an actual thing, it would already exist for sale. Here on Earth 1, the shovel would be easily repaired by replacing the handle. They are readily available and attacking it to the shovel blade collar is an easy job. And, on Earth 1, realizing that a "hoe"-like tool would be useful, a trip to "outside-digging-tool" store and purchase, not a hoe which is used for weeding, but a "pick' that would break the ground easily. Basically, the best tool for the groundbreaking would be a "grub axe". That “grub axe” is a Pulaski which combines the functions of an axe and an adze (a sharp hoe) in one tool. The adze part is very efficient at breaking up dirt and the axe part is readily available to chop up roots. Genius? Not so much. Making two compromised tools is naive when efficient tools to do the job of breaking earth and digging are readily available. Having watched this 10 minute KZbin video, I lost 10 minutes from my life that I will never get back. To prevent losing more minutes from my life, I am making the Alva Welding channel a channel that KZbin must never recommend to me again. I would suggest that everyone do that to eliminate unnecessary schlock that will take away part of your life. I'll bet that the next Alva Welding video will be one touting dry pour cement.

If you upload such films on YT I think your purpose is to show your idea and talent. So please agree with all the opinions of youtubers. Waste of time is also an opinion. Pls agree with that. Neither the idea nor the amount of work and money invested in this are worth it. It's a useless idea. Someone said not everyone can afford to buy a new shovel. I agree with that. But in that case if that person wants to follow this video must have a good workshop and even a welding machine. This is just a shovel. Just buy a new wooden handel and in 10 min. one can have almost new shovel.
