Oh my gosh! After the machining, there’s a clearly visible crack in one of the end welds, and that lathe “milling” operation was terrifying at minimum, possibly deadly! One things for sure: job security! It’ll be back for sure!

It would have been 10 times easier to walk down the street and get a chunk of ship anchor chain. Cut to square and drill a hole weld it on. Not to mention now the internal metal structure is not the same as the rest of the piece making a weak spot no matter what.

They could have just gotten a new shaft also which would have been even better. However engineers uses what they have available to make their machines work.
