i think to that sheep thing, directly before and after the jump wouldnt there be a greater force acting on the floor as the sheep pushes down before leaving the ground and then lands once more. That extra force would create extra fuel consumption so it would have no effect. I think.

Wow, series 2 was a mess. The first series had potential, but this was all over the place. Alexis Sayle looked so depressed at the situation. Tim Minchin gave up trying to be funny, as soon as he realised how wasted his efforts would be on it. Dave Gorman is a comedy legend, but you wouldn't tell from this. I think it was a blessing that it ended before too many people even noticed it, and Dave Gorman ended up writing and starring in the the absolute classic-in-the-making Modern Life Is Goodish.

+D Williams Not to argue or anything. But isn't the point of this format intellectual goofiness for entertainment? That was the first time I've seen this show and I was quite baffled at how well everything was coordinated. I liked it. But it is apparent, although admittedly not obvious, that people were sayind the darndest things for entertainment. Like troll science.

@LootFragg 9 жыл бұрын
D Williams I doubt he was supposed to represent the physics faculty. It's rather light-hearted fun. In fact, none of these audience members seem to genuinely aspire to claim the title of a genius. It's just how the show works. Like scripted improv. For instance, that one man suggesting that lorries carrying budgies make the budgies fly during transport to reduce the load on the lorry. Which is hilarious and bizarre. Physics Andrew says at 7:17 : "I'm gonna say no. But then, I haven't done the module of budgie aerodynamics. I've got a lot to learn." Bloke isn't being sincere. It's all just taking the piss all in the name of entretaînement.

@Durakken
@Durakken 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah my reaction to that was a vocal wtf... What makes it worse though is that destroying the moon would, I think, generally increase gravity on Earth, because the moon's pull makes us slightly lighter/heavier based on which side it's on relative to us... and the Local Gravity well would be shifted from slightly off center of the Earth's core to the center. I'm not sure which direction this would effect gravity on a person though as getting close to the source of the gravity can result in getting lighter rather than heavier, but i think that is only if you're within the object and not on its surface.

Durakken It would have very little effect on Earths gravity, but it would have a huge effect on tides i.e. there would be none, and many species require the tides for survival. Edit: actually there would be a tide but greatly reduced, the sun supplies 45% of the tidal force, therefore a reduced tide.

Brit humour can be safely assumed to be heavily ironic (or sardonic/satirical/sarcastic) unless packaged with a warning label. People who take the ideas of this game show seriously (and go on to dismiss their plausibility) are clearly not from a Brit culture. Possibly a culture with Germanic influences (eg US, Sthn Chile and other parts of Sth America, Netherlands, etc etc...) Any care to 'fess up?

robbzooi We might have the most swearwords, but dutch people complain sooo much it annoys me. There's also a dutch saying that goes: 'Normaal is gek genoeg.', which means: normal is crazy enough.If what you say is true, that the dutch are known for their sarcastic and dark humor, I haven't noticed anything at all since I started living here. The only stereotype I know to be almost entirely true about the dutch, is that they are moaning cunts and perpetually stoned (maybe not the last one, but weed is legal here :D).

While its true that genius comes from Latin, the plural version (Genii) is only applied when using the word in its original meaning, that is, a spirit of some kind. So if you are talking about people who are intelligent, its Genius, and if you are talking about spirits, its Genii.

I don't see why Imogen's theory isn't plausible, but the 60 year old dude's is. I don't have any experience in the field, but it seems like they are judging based on confidence, rather than plausibility.
@jacobpaint

Obviously both ideas were absurd. The girl didn't put a lot of thought into her idea, it wasn't very clever or interesting. The "old dude" put a lot more thought into his concept and for all of it's absurdity the mechanisms he described were a lot more clever and funnier... that said, the concept of "genius" is relatively subjective in this show and an very good idea could be rejected as not genius simply so they guest could get a laugh (which is what the show is actually about - ie. Laughs not genius)

Guy at 9 minutes, total BS but not a complete idiot. The only way this works is if the system for lifting the load is sustained from outside the system. For example the air movement from outside the vehicle being used to allow the birds to glide under their own power. If the vehicle is in a closed system (truck with a closed cab), the force of the birds lifting off transfer into the air beneath it which then transfer to the truck bed causing it to weigh the same.
