My teacher once asked me in that “please tell the class” tone how to solve a certain question. I forgot my book, so I said “correctly”. She told me to take it step by step, so I said “okay first, you read the question, then you answer it, and then you check your answer, and if it is wrong repeat. If it is right, move on, if you aren’t sure, then ignore the question because math is boring”. I got lunch detention that day. And the thing is that at my school, when you get a lunch detention, you have to write a half page letter to the teacher who sent you there, saying what you did and what you plan to do in the future to avoid doing it again. So I wrote, “I am totally sorry that I was sarcastic. I didn’t know the answer but if I didn’t answer one I would have been in trouble. At least this way I got everyone to laugh. I’ve decided that to avoid this, I’ll never answer questions again. That way, I can’t be put in for sarcastic answers, because I’ll never give them. I shouldn’t have been so rude to my teacher who will have *such* a big influence on my life. I totally regret being sarcastic to your totally important questions that will definitely benefit me later in life if I know how to solve them. She didn’t catch the sarcasm in the letter

When I was in high school taking a class in European history, a frequent question the teacher posed on a test was to assess the success or failure of a particular king. When we were little (I'm turkish), a lot of people used to write "Allah knows" in our religion culture and principle knowledge exams (yup that's a thing) because nobody was taking it seriously and nobody was working for it. Then out teacher told that we were going to have a religion culture and principle knowledge part in EIGHT GRADE FINAL EXAMS too. Nobody writes Allah knows anymore.

When I was in high school math we had a geometry question that one of my classmates couldn't solve about finding the length of a line (maybe it was a triangle side), so he simply measured what he drew, saw that it was about 1.4, and wrote down the answer as the square root of 2. He got it right of course, but he could not get credit because of not showing proper work. But the teacher said that he must be psychic...:)
