Chills listening to the intentionality of this song breakdown. This is hip hop. This is art. Also love the homage to artists of the past, the inundation of current media makes the past painfully forgettable at times, so it’s nice to see artists preserve old relics stylistically in this way. Thank you Doechii.

I became aware of her with the NPR Tiny Desk Concert, which was honestly one of my top five all time favorites. I used to do swing dancing and as a part of that I studied the history of it and all the eras that led into jazz and out from it and in the musical accompaniment alone I heard influences from a hundred years of music from the 1920s on. There were nods to jazz standards littered throughout and they served their purpose adding context to the story unfolding in the vocals.

Amazing insight. I've been listening to this song a lot since I found out about it cause it's a masterpiece, very fun to jam to and just generally impossible to dislike, but also because I resonate a lot with some parts of it that happened similarly in my own life (and strangely kinda in those same years she mentions). And love that she exposed the industry and how trapped artists can feel. I dont find it coincidental that when artists are independent or just starting out, you can tell how much they love their craft, you can feel the realness and authenticity. I feel like the music industry treats artists like machines, who need to constantly and consistently produce "hits". When creativity and art is supposed to be a natural process, an ebb and flow, sometimes youre going going and sometimes you have nothing. And thats how its supposed to be

Loving this beautiful melanated sister, we need our hip hop culture restored back to the authenticity in which it derived from. Doechii gives me Grace Jones, Lauren Hill, a little Missy, a drop of Slick Rick and Kendrick, with a little dash of Nicki. She has such a mixture she is literally Hip Hop gumbo, and we need this for female rap. Doechii has the star power. I really hope that people who really love hip hop support her.

the album cover for alligator bites never heal already evokes so much power and doechii speaking her meaning for it and how there was fear of holding the alligator but still keeping it together. how alligators/crocodiles in speech represent fakeness/frigidity and that there are intangible forms of self harm, and facing your shadow can help you reach healing. aaaah the dichotomies just make her mixtape even more of its own star !
