Producers we better start treating ourselves like artists now
@aidanfine
@aidanfine 7 жыл бұрын
Get yours. I'd say we're all probably better off developing alongside a singular artist, and coming up with them. Like 40 and Drake. Or working with a small group of people that you believe in. Be exclusive. If you're that good- don't associate your name with people who aren't.
@aidanfine
@aidanfine 7 жыл бұрын
It really just depends on which artist and/or label hit you up. We have to remember that most Record Labels and Artists are actually businesses. Which means that their primary goal is to make a profit. If that means they have to screw you over, then they won't think twice. Remember the guy "Menace" who produced Desiigner's Panda? When last did we hear from him? Even though he had his 15 minutes of fame from the "Prod. by Menace" title. I'd rather have a sustainable career than one that dies because of impatience. With that said, I definitely see where you're coming from and I'm not disagreeing- we should all take our shots- but business is business and we need to be good businessmen and women.
@aidanfine
@aidanfine 7 жыл бұрын
MISTA FRANKFERTA no doubt bro. I'm with you there. But I think it's important that as producers (who are artists) we value the art above anything else.

@eman0828
@eman0828 6 жыл бұрын
You mean 50% of Writing and Composing the song? Beat Making is Songwriting. Producing is directing and overseeing the overall production and recording all the way down to the mix process. Two entirely different things. Timbaland, Scott Storch, Dre, and Pharrell Williams are tradtional Record Producer's Co-Writes the music as they are wearing two hats as a Producer and a Songwriter. That's why they get Songwriting and Production credits for both roles as they don't just sit on their asses all day and just make beats. That's the difference between a Beat Maker and a Producer. *PRODUCER=DIRECTOR* *SONGWRITER=BEAT MAKER/LYRICIST*
@Minurz
@Minurz Жыл бұрын
@@eman0828Those are exceptions. Majority of the time, the producer does all the work and heavylifting, including composition, songwriting, (production process) beatmaking, vocal cleanup, mixing, mastering, and everything in between. The producers make tons of beats, most of them go unused, and the singer picks one and sings/raps over it, and then the producer add all the vocal effects and cleanup/m&m. The artist basically just creates lyrics and performs dry vocals and adlibs. That's it.

Complex Ez u can’t have a rap song without lyrics what the hell Is going on in your brain 😂 u can have a rap song without a beat as long as the artist has good lyricism to keep u interested Listening to a beat on its own is like listening to classical music
@eman0828
@eman0828 6 жыл бұрын
You mean track makers? Beat Making is Songwriting as you are basically writing and composing half the song the *MUSIC(Beat)* and the Lyricist top-lines the Music that writes the *LYRICS(Words).* That's a 50/50 split between two Co-Writers that wrote an entire song together with Music and Lyrics combined. The producer's job is much MUCH harder than the rapper's. All a rapper has to do is to ask for a beat of "this-this" type. Now the producer does all the stuff. Then the rapper raps, and producer mixes that, does all the work and still does not get paid or recognized. This fucking sucks. And I am a producer aswell, I know it all.
@eman0828
@eman0828 5 жыл бұрын
A Record Producer's main objective is to see the creation of the finished record all the way through all the way down to the mix. Real Record Producer's enter In legal binding *Producer Agreements* which I find it hard to believe why wouldn't a Producer wouldn't get paid. I have a 14 page Producer Agreement with a Record Company myself that states the Producer's Advances that recoupable against Points on an Album. The Points comes out of the Artist record royalties from thier 360 / Recording Agreement. The contract also states the Recording Budgets as the Producer is acutally paying themselves out of the Recording Budget as an *All-in* deal. The Record Company sends 50% of the funds to the Producer on commencement of the Recording Sessions and the other 50% upon completion of the Master Recording turned in to the A&R. The Producer has to pay every one else involved in the creation of the record as they have to Make Union Scale payments to session Musicans that are part of the Union, pay the Recording Engineer etc. All of that comes out of the Recording budget.

These steps are useless for 99.9% of the people who will watch this...as most of this goes out the window, when the opportunity presents itself. Basically..."don't do it" is the answer if you're trying to do it right on a labels dime, they will find someone else who does it nearly for free. It's the state of the system...not general lack of business savvy

Great breakdown. I produce, write, record, mix, master, and publish my own tunes. So i dont have to depend on label money other than promotions. Distribution, well, doesnt exist much anymore. They replaced fye with a dog adoption center in our mall lol

i got my first producer placement 4 years ago through stonesthrow records. i didn't get paid anything up front for it though i did get my name in the album credits...i was very frustrated but i realize that that's just the business. from now on, i charge artists, for beats up front for a small fee and half my publishing. we producers gotta create a union.

Us producers have to understand the way the music industry works. Learn about songwriting credits, royalties and publishing rights. A tweet won't get you paid for beats. Know who you're working with and what they want. If this sounds complicated, hire a lawyer.

It's amazing how many records contact you with wack ass shady deals. Rule nr 1, be careful and ready EVERYTHING. And contact any1 in the music business or a music lawyer if u got the dollars. Worth it.

Producers run this. We need to be smarter with our business. Don't give away shit for free. Publicity doesn't pay the bills. If you give em something for free, have them sign an agreement saying you own 100% of everything.

If TM gets paid then the actual original producer that he stole the beat from should get paid too. I'm can't feel bad for someone not getting paid when they do stuff like that.

An advance is not a loan and doesn't have to be paid back. It indeed is recoupable, which means you only will get royalties from the point on when the label has made the money they paid you *in advance* back through sales; but in a situation were sales, streams etc. are not enough to recoup the money you already got paid, you do NOT have to pay it back like it would be with a loan.

Don’t sign with a label, rappers or producers, they offer you a hefty advance up front but you don’t pay attention to the implications of who’s making the profits from your song becoming popular. In this day and age with social media and the ability for anybody to produce professional sounding music without needing to spend a fortune on equipment, the former need of labels to promote and finance your music making isn’t needed. I don’t need to mention all the independent artists who became popular through the internet.

Reminds me of that verse on 4:44 when Jay-z said: "ya niggas still going w/ labels?? after all, they done?" (something on that note lol) but yea these record labels are some money vamps I feel bad for all the artists and producers getting finesse man especially if u got Hits under ya belt and not geting properly paid.

Depends on the producer they could be designing the sounds, composing the melodies, chords, basslines and drums, arranging them, mixing them after, then mastering them and still ppl think 50/50 split is unfair
