@MJ-cf9nl9 күн бұрын
I don't think he will write any books at all. Being good at competitive programming does not mean that you know the theory and the details behind how things work. I am sure he would struggle with basic system design solutions and implementations (trade-Offs...etc). He literally said it himself, what he does in competitive coding is just a result of practicing/repeating over and over daily by grinding solutions and maybe refactoring them.... Software engineering and system design is way more than just doing competitive coding...

People are talking about the well-known competition Gennady won. There were also less-known competitions in which he participated, and I suspect he did so to win prize money rather than for recognition. Earning $5,000-$10,000 per competition in early 2000s was a fair amount for a teenager in school and university living in Belarus and later in St Petersburg, Russia where he studied. He won or placed second or third in so many events that I doubt he even remembers them all. He started competing when he was just a kid.
@dailysolution842614 күн бұрын
i play chess and also I'm a CS student and i definitely think competitive programming is much harder than chess because in the case of chess you need to memorize many theories+ need to learn some techniques and practice and you can win on your opponent mistake By practicing you can easily improve your elo much higher and even you can defeat a good player while in case of competitive programming you need to learn a lot of mathematical theories and lot of things and you need very good analysis power it's much harder comparative to chess
@HamzaShahid-s8t12 күн бұрын
i am also a CS student and a chess player and I kinda agree with you too but I would say chess a; , CS a; a = a on competitive difficulty level chess and CS are equal
@mr.schloopka112412 күн бұрын
I don't agree. There are hundreds of chess profesionals, who worked hours every day since they were 10, had coaches, travelled to tournaments, didn't go to to school (were homeschooled) to be better at chess. I know people who got medals at IMO and IOI and none of them spent that much time. I know people who had 2000 FIDE Elo at 15, worked hard for whole high school and didn't reach 2300 FIDE. If they spent that much time on competetive maths or programing, getting to international olympiad would be easy for them.
@zanies628810 күн бұрын

@muhammadhafizuddin296513 күн бұрын
Yes exactly. Lots of poor people have the talents and ability, but lack the resource esp if we are talking about it. With it, you need at least one laptop or 1 phone to be able to learn it. I was also one of these few kids, im lucky my dad did saves money and bought a laptop for me when i asked when i was 12. My reason was i like computer so much so i want to learn it. And here i am, full stck software dev. This guy is already genius, plus with his parents effort like building special program to teach him programming. I can only teaxh myself with resources on the internet (going to place with wifi, and download all the youtube vids into pendrive to watch), first formal programming education only got on university. So yes, if many people try to track these talents and help give resources, we can find more intelligent person in this world.
@saumyakhati56129 күн бұрын
Ah, love the way you just pulled that out of your ass. The accomplishments he's had from a young age are extraordinary...but sure "so many out there are far more intelligent than him". There are countless kids also born in conditions far better or equivalent to him. And yet, less than 1% come anywhere close to what he's achieved. IIT is less impressive than his accomplishments. He was a IOI champion before even being a teen lmao. IIT is nothing compared to him.

@@saumyakhati5612 I don't think so brother you are saying that he is very rare That is not possible in this era brother A kid who is going to be an iitian in future years or have the same potential if you provide him or her with laptop or anything where coding can be done he will learn so many things before iit OR any kind of institution and his or her potential will grow automatically which was my point I didn't pulled his ass out I respect him but I want people with low resources to grow more and more

I've been in this field for many many years and never heard of him or what he did/does. Guess what, all these competitive coding rewards won't help you much in the real market when you have to design and engineer systems and solutions end-to-end that should be extendible and flexible and yet scalable and maintainable for years and decades to come..... As a matter fact, writing the most clever and compact piece of code possible is considered a bad practice, and that's what these competitive programming teaches you. Like that guy who wrote an entire program in one line code inside a JS loop...
@zanies62888 күн бұрын
Bruh most orgs would pay a hefty amount to hire these. The only reason they right those compact codes is to save time during competition. If people with average talent can become great swes then these guys would crush it cuz they are more talented and hardworking.
