After defection, his immediate family, siblings, most likely even his grandparents were all be rounded up, tortured and interrogated, but put into work camps instead of executing them (so they could be used to possibly capture him if he tried to contact them from the South). Lasting more than a few years working 12 hours of backbreaking labor a day while being fed under 400 calories a day (plus the odd rat, patch of grass, etc) almost guarantees that no one in his family survived more than a few years. There is no parole. That's the impossible choice you face with defecting. Could you do it? My mind can barely handle the implications if I were to be in the same situation.

Something I found fascinating was that these kids don't seem to be innate geniuses per se, they just live a life for this one thing. His dad made him do math problems instead of letting him be a kid, then this whole infrastructure behind him to succeed. There are no superhumans. Just a set of circumstances that corroborate results.

moreover, they are the government, if they knew that if kids were brought up in a specific way so that their utmost intellect can be harnessed they would have done that, but instead they specifically chose students who excel at academics and show above average performance, this proves that intellect is combination of genetics and the environment they are brought up in, but id give more weight to the genetic factor.

It's both. If you put someone who's not talented through all of this, he won't become as good. That's the point of talent. You nurture natural talent. These kids were absolutely naturally gifted. Genetics play a huge role in your intelligence. Many studies on twins and adopted children show it.

1:29, you'd never see a North Korean farmer wearing blue denim overalls. Blue denim jeans are specifically banned, but you're also unlikely to see anyone wearing other colours or types of clothing made out of denim due to unspoken rules or social taboo.

oh my GOD yall leave cipher ALONEEEE 😭 its him and one other person (?) making these videos, id end up in a facility if i had to do all this work. it’s clearly not an AI voiceover- it’s incredibly hard to tell a story like this and not have any slip ups as a human. the animation itself is also clearly not AI, AI lacks the consistency this video has. the slip ups in this video are clearly a result of a human having to animate an almost 20 minute long video in a software incredibly difficult to use. fern is great but the d riding of them and saying anyone who makes similar content is copying?? you guys are RUTHLESS. just let the man make his animation stories oh my GOD. keep up the work cipher :)
