The creepy thing is - that night feeder didnt had to kill entire herd to survive. But it went its way to just massacre them all. And Spear is a hunter, who empathise with animals. For him, hearing and seeing all those animals being butchered was probably something alongside with heresy.

@@lanceparker4796 Not really. Animals kill to survive. Wolves and lions will peacefully let deer and zebra walk past them if they're full. It's been seen before. Predators only kill to eat, not sport or mere bloodlust. Sorry, but you're wrong, and I say this as someone familiar with farms. Even predators that kill and then leave will still return to feed on the body if they know that they left meat behind on the body. This thing isn't a predator, it's a psychopathic bully, and it deserved to burn.

Spear perfectly understands predators killing in order to eat and avoid starvation, so he's repulsed by the Night Feeder obviously killing helpless creatures for sport and bloodlust - it's not badass or fierce, it's monstrous and disgusting. I wouldn't be surprised if the death of the Night Feeder was one of the few times when Spear genuinely thought he did the wider world a favor by ridding it of this monster instead of merely another standard case of self-defense against a predator.

What I find insane about the night feeder is that when the triceratops herd formed a defensive circle it tore through them like paper. In the wild when herd animals form defensive circles like elephants and wildebeasts it's practically impossible for a predator to break through that. Even lions and other large predators give up pretty often when a defensive circle is made. That just shows how powerful, smart, and deadly this thing was.

I mean, it also loses respect points because there's literally no reason for it to keep killing the entire herd. A single ceratopsian corpse should be enough for the Night Feeder to eat its full, but no, it keeps needlessly slaughtering the terrified dinosaurs when it's obvious that they can't fight back. There's a difference between an obligate carnivore hunting in order to avoid starvation (such as the red raptors and giant spider), and a disgusting psychopath that kills to boost its ego or even just satisfy its bloodlust. I just felt sympathy for these ceratopsians in this scene more than anything, because even though the Night Feeder being able to kill one easily is impressive, the fact that it goes on to terrorize and massacre the rest of them needlessly just makes it a pathetic bully. Even more so when it's proven that the Night Feeder is just as easily killed in return without actually much of a fight when its own weakness is uncovered, so it can't even take as much as it dishes out.

Personally I think the bigger bone chill is the fact the Triceratops Knew what it was. Look at 0:42 it takes a second for it to make out whats stalking him. Then when it figures it out it literally goes from fight to flight mode. Truly terrifying.

I always freaking hated this. Animation was never meant for JUST children. It was meant for EVERYONE to enjoy. My parents let me see whatever I wanted and even made me see certain things with the whole family and let me draw my own conclusions. Was I freaked out? Yes. Did it help me reach an understanding of certain things like, fear, death, and destruction? Yes. It really did. I'm older now. And while I still cry and worry for my friends and family and even my animals, I can confidently say I'm in a position where I can get through the worst things without breaking down. Karen's and things like coppa ruin perfectly good pieces of work and art that teach people and kids about other people and even the world around us. Parents just need to be ACTUAL parents and not be such total drama queens and paranoid nuts. Gendy Tarttakovsky is a freaking legend and he deserves all the recognition and respect he's got coming to him.

Fang putting Spear in his place as a "human" is really neat. Fang basically just says "listen, they're being slaughtered . . . an ENTIRE HERD is being slaughtered without much fight. What can YOU do?" A show with no real speaking conveys more than most TV shows that can't shut the fuck up. Really punching above it's weight.

It also applies on Spear's end. Without him even saying anything, it's obvious that he knows animals are being slaughtered needlessly instead of the usual case of a predator hunting to feed itself. He's not picking up his weapon to fight an incoming threat, he's picking it up to try to stop this crime against nature. Of course, he doesn't consider that challenging a herd-soloing monster might be biting off more than he can chew even with his impressive combat history up to that point. It's his empathetic bond with Fang that lets him understand her interspecies message that they simply aren't prepared to handle this thing on their own terms, even if she also agreed with how disgusting the Night Feeder is for killing more than it needs to (hence why she recoils from the bodies of its rampages).

For example a predator that could kill prey THAT easily and willingly kill way more than necessary could decimate a prey population to the point where their ecological niche is wiped out. (Assuming that this predator breeds and has a population of its own) It’s the difference between Dodos going extinct and their niche being filled by other fowl, and all local wildlife dying out on a small island because cats were introduced. One is a tragedy, but will balance in time, the other is an ecological disaster

I like how fang never uses human gestures, but is still very smart and can still show a lot of emotion. She doesn't shake her head like she's saying "no" to keep spear away, but is doing it more like waving him away. When she sits back down, you can clearly tell she is concerned based on her eye movement, even though she doesn't raise her eyebrows or anything like that to show concern in her facial expressions, as that is something only humans do.

Here’s the scariest thing about the Night Feeder. Not the sheer amount of power it has where it can slice a triceratops in half with its bare claws. Not the speed or the appearance. @@mrrm5201 The ZombieDino didn't become strong exactly. Just so mad, that it couldn't register pain or fear anymore - like how he didn't stop pursuing Fang and Spear despite being burned by the lava. In contrast, the NF was not dulled in the head. It feared fire and ran when upon seeing the flaming branch, and positively freaked out when Fang and Spear trapped him in the ring of fire.

To be fair, a kill circle doesn't work so well when the attacker can literally slice through the built-in shield-and-spears-combo that is your face...and then go on to slice through the REST of your body like it wasn't even there.

From the second they find the saber tooth corpse they both know something unnatural is out there. One of the things I love about this episode is how that makes both spear and fang seem to HATE the night feeder. It kills for the sake of killing and as they're both hunters they know theres something wrong about that.

@@jeremyallen5974 Actually no, that's wrong. It is NEVER proven that the tiny raptor is the "day form". In fact, it's never shown that the Night Feeder transforms at all. That is merely a headcanon fan theory made up by viewers. As far as we know, the Night Feeder stays in its monstrous form 24/7 (just like any reptile) and it is completely nocturnal (i.e. sleeps during the day until the night). So yes, it is still for the sake of killing. Even if it did eat flies, it could do that without needlessly slaughtering herds of animals (literally just eat the damn bodies, not the flies eating them).

It’s not uncommon to hear the screams of a dying animal in the jungle, (especially in prehistoric times) but when it continues and you can hear the screams of dozens of individuals all being slaughtered simultaneously, you know it’s unnatural. Spear knew something was killing these creatures for sport and wanted to put a stop to it and when Fang stopped him you could tell how much it bothered him to continue to hear the triceratops’ screams knowing they all died and suffered for no reason.

If Primal had conventional dialogue (or even subtitles), I would totally see this as part of the dialogue. Aside from Fang knowing the Night Feeder's aversion to light; if she could tell Spear THAT, I expect the episode would've ended a lot sooner (since Spear would immediately realize that he could exploit that weakness instead of only discovering it by pure chance).

What makes this thing extra creepy is that, its real form being that of a tiny, powerless Compsognathus which Spear and Fang encounter, it is probably fueled by a shitload of frustration from being scared away and chased by all sorts of larger creatures, so the killing it does as a weredinosaur could function as its vindictive venting out the long suppressed anger.

During the chase scene Fang did go for a death kill by jumping on it but when we see her again she has black goo around her mouth. The creature is covered in some kind of substance. It may have become a weredino from falling into it. The weredino easily caught on fire.

I think that thing killing the ceratopsians isn't natural. There's a theory that random Compy ate that black goo that Spear drank in Rage of the Ape men and turned into a super powered thing. It's what's called a super predator. Apex predators serve to keep population numbers low, but kill only enough to survive. They have no natural predators but serve a purpose in the ecosystem. A super predator lacks sustainability, hunting and killing far more than what's necessary. Eventually, it will wipe out it's primary food source and die off. That's what happened to large prehistoric mammalian predators, like the smilodon and cave bear. As the mammoths died off, due in no small part to a changing ecosystem, the smilodon killed what was left, leaving a gap in the food chain that ultimately derived it of proper prey.

The smilodon and the first triceratops stood their ground when the Night Feeder approached them. I think Fang just had some experience with this thing, while Spear didn't. But this thing has no ecological niche. It slaughters far more than it can eat. It cleaves trees like cardboard. It's covered in black flammable slime. Like the mad sauropod and the witch's coven, this is something unnatural and monstrous.

The thing is, megafauna died off due to multifactorial reasons. The large apex predators that fed off the large prey either got smaller or died off. Since smaller prey animals couldn’t sustain their huge size and thus bigger demands. Because those animals behaved and acted just like their modern counterparts. Just feeding off of large prey since they themselves are large. There’s no killing more than necessary because it’s simply illogical in the struggle for survival. It’s illogically also physically come to think of it. You must be thinking of “hyper carnivores” such as polar bears and some shrew species with insanely high metabolisms. While polar bears will kill and eat *anything* and are almost always in hunting mode. Almost never passing up the opportunity for a kill. Because of the obvious harsh low prey environment of the Arctic. Often hungry for most of their lives. Those both are behaviors and characteristics of a hyper carnivore. (Either high metabolism and or scarcity of prey that triggers high predatory behavior and high feeding behavior. For the sake of survival.) However they still hunt for food and wouldn’t kill large dangerous prey more than once. Simply because of self preservation and satisfied hunger and predatory instinct in some cases if the lack of energy wasn’t enough. (With polar bears there’s no such large dangerous prey anyway. Except for the occasional walrus.)

I thought for sure that at 1:21 it was going to come from the side and slice them all in half at the same time. It in a way was more terrifying and brutal it effortlessly killed them all one by one but I love when there's a scene where whatever prey is being hunted thinks the hunter is in front of it but actually the whole time the prey was standing there waiting in fear and shock the hunter was using the darkness and thick trees to circle around them and ensure their kill. There are many high budget mainstream movies out there that completely fail at making the monster both unbeatable and scary at the same time and they all failed, but this scene really did it right and it's amazing to finally see. I think the scariest things in this are the Triceartops' reactions to seeing others easily slaughtered and mainly when the scene jumps back to the caveman and dinosaur characters the sound of the Triceratopses being absolutely destroyed is only heard. Masterful scene, I definitely want a to watch this show now and it's all because of this video.

The nightmarish factor about the Night Feeder is not that it can rip an ENTIRE triceratops in two... But that it displays disturbingly high levels of INTELLIGENCE. It basically toys with it's prey & tells the 'Ceras "Hey, fucker. YOU'RE NEXT!" with each kill. It announces it's presence before the kill each and every time And Fang realizes her pal is absolutely outgunned here and forbids Spear to assist, knowing full well he'll get papershredded of sorts if he does. Every time the Night Feeder screeches and the audience hears the slashing claws, another Triceratops dies in this scene. Altogether, that makes at least somewhere between 16-27 victims that the Night Feeder kills in one night alone. This animal obviously kills for sport and to relish in the prey's fear, because it could survive off the meat for weeks and yet it never eats the herd after slaughtering them, instead leaving the corpses for scavengers and deciding to stalk Spear and Fang for the next day and night from the shadows.
