Glad to see that he's putting more emphasis on development... The wins will come as they get better and that should always be the focus...

I think he's just being honest. They have to improve, and the Freshmen need to get more comfortable with the games against the good teams. People will not like this, but I think Ines should look at the School that first recruited her, and Amari if she has her deploma, then she needs to move on. She has no future as a player at UConn.
@TheDisruptiveOne7 ай бұрын
I think ines may leave. She wants to play! It won't happen at UConn. 2 more guards coming in. Amari already missed her window. She will sit on the bench one more year and then finally leave.
@bondriley26947 ай бұрын
@@TheDisruptiveOne I like Ines, but she needs to transfer to play. I agree with you on both accounts. If Amari stays she just blocks UConn from getting someone that can help sad to say.

Each injury hurt the team in different ways. Jana was going to be the center. She looked very good in the summer games. That moved Aaleya to center. Patterson was going to be the backup center. Ice is there now. Azzi's injury hurt the offense. Uconn only has 3 scorers some games. Azzi would of spread out the defense. Caroline if healthy could of spread out the defense . When Aubrey went out it put them in a bad way. Paige had to play power forward more now. No team could handle what they have gone through. Aaleya, Paige, Ash and KK are playing positions that they are not supposed to be playing. Nika is the only one that's in the right spot. Ash is playing small forward . Kk is playing the 2 spot. 18:26 18:26 18:26

He's an amazing coach. At this point in his life he should be thinking about saying "adieu" but he's not. He's rolling up his sleeves and getting to work. He will bring out the best in every player. And in doing so, make himself one of the best coaches who can measure up even to the accomplishments of John Wooden!

Good episode with a good topic. There is no way to make this conversation short and concise. So I apologize in advance for the novel. LOL Thoughts: Geno is going to be Geno. Right now he is practicing damage control and trying to make sure his young players do not see this loss as a negative judgment of their own talents. (It shouldn't. The freshman are playing WAY above their experience level). Moreover, he is also tasked with making sure Paige, Aaliyah and Nika do not lose their own confidence in their ability to play and lead going into the post season. Again, REALLY tough position to be in as a coach. That said: The big east is a weak division this year, let's be honest. Even an injury ladened UConn team is basically wiping the floor with the competition. But, UConn, in their current state of talent and play, if they are to be competitive at all in the post season will have to make another drastic change. A change that may be impossible; Paige will need to be "selfish". I've lost count how many people on the interwebs have badgered Paige to be more like CC and shoot the ball 40 to 50 times a game. To be clear, that is NOT who Paige is and never was. You can go all the way back to her Hopkins days and she was the same, consistent facilitator that she is today. The sad reality is If UConn is to get to the Elite 8 or higher, Paige is going to have to change her game and mindset completely. We've seen it time and again this year when playing top ranked teams, the freshman and Nika just don't perform at the levels needed to push them over the top, and since Paige is not playing point, she is not really in a position to make up for that. Not that Paige and Aaliyah are perfect, they make their own share of mistakes, but to compare her play to others is a mistake. It's not even close. I just don't think Paige has it in her to change who she is on the court to make up for the missing skillsets. And in my opinion, she shouldn't. Geno is going to have to be creative. Can he do it? Peace!

They have a lot to get better at. I love Nika and what she brings to the team, but she truly struggles to produce in any form against elite company. It is what it is. They just need to keep their heads up and keep learning. Their rank is exactly where it should be. There are a few teams I look at ahead of them in the rankings that I think they can beat, but they haven't proven it. I will be shocked if Strong ends up coming to UConn after going to SC and having the entire arena shouting her name. In Strong's mind, she should be noticing that UConn needs her way more than SC. She probably would get more playing at UConn with Aaliyah being gone

Not sure what people expect from a seven-person roster versus a team with just about full complement of players especially one as talented as SC. The game ended up just about what I expected. I have to give it to UConn for the effort that they have played for the last few years. They must be mentally and physically drained at this point. With this, they just don't have the players to match up against top tier teams. Bravo to the team, Geno and CD for the program they have built and continue to build.

I think this might just be a tough year for UConn. Geno recognizes this but it happens. UConn has been spoiled in the past with all of their success but it doesn’t mean that you give up. Players play because they love the game. Coaches love to win but a coach also loves to help and motivate players through the good times and difficult times. He’s doing the right thing. He’s a great coach.

So is Sarah Strong coming to UCONN? And, if she does, will that really make a difference? She will have to be a team player not a "Caitlin Clark" clone. At UCONN, there is no "I" in the word team.

I still think Strong is going to NC State. She will want to play. Not be on the bench for 35 minutes a game.

I have been going over some game statistics. In the 5 losses,only twice has Paige taken 20 (20 and 23) shots. If you look at Clark, Hidalgo, Watkins, etc, they routinely have 25 to 30 shots in a game. For 4 years now (3 actually) Geno has been trying to get Paige to shoot more, But she won't do it. Another issue is the other players mentioned, get way more Free throws than Paige. Clark and Watkins both have more than 60 more free throws than Paige. It's clear she does NOT take the leadership role the others do. The issue is why not!

I pretty much hit on all my random thoughts for SC in the last video and after listening to Geno now would be a good time for a shakeup with the starters. Throw Q in the fire and have her start with Page, Nika, Edwards and Ash. Have KK come off the bench to give Paige, Ash and Nika a breather. Paige, Nika, Ash and KK should not all be on the court at the same time unless foul trouble hits. They have no bench so it really should not make a difference.
@svpst17 ай бұрын
Why are we still talking about the 5 injured players. THEY ARE NOT THERE and WILL NOT BE THERE, you have to win with what you have, not with what you don't have. You don't have 70 points sitting on the bench, you have 5 at the most with Q, Ines, DeBerry and Brady. The last four are non contributors. WHY? He won't play Ines for some unknown reason, maybe he doesn't like Portuguese women, and Q thinks she's the only shooter on the team. Brady and Deberry look lost in fantasy land where they just hang around the foul line and shoot jumpers all night. Neither of them rebound or play defense. Muhl, bless heart for her efforts, but in the last 2 or 3 game,s has completely passed up wide open 3's when they could have made a difference in the games. Other players get her open shots and she won't take them, like Paige sometimes. 25 games into the season KK still thinks she can drive to the basket like she did in high school. She almost always contributes a turn-over on her drives. Whey the coaches are addressing those issues I don't know.

UCONN plays the "Mouse-Keteers" tonight. KK plays out of control, & takes terrible shots. Let KK come off the bench. Let Bettencourt start at the point. Let's see how she does. Against the mice, she will not cause any significant damage. I feel she has proven herself with the lousy 2 minutes a game Geno lets her play. Let Amari DeUseless play meaningful minutes. Let her start. Lets see what she can do against the worst team in the country. Even she cannot cause harm while playing the Mouseketeers. Why does Edwards miss 25% of her shots in the paint ? Much of the time she hasn't had anyone near her under the basket. CLANG CLAN CLANG Edwards took 1 three pointer last year and 0 ZERO three pointers this year. So much for trying to spread the opposing defense. There are more than just Edwards and Paige on this team. Let the others shoot as well. Don't forget our "mice Brady". Let her play and see if she fouls out in less than a quarter.

I don't understand people talking about Sarah Strong and how much she can help UCONN..She isn't a big body stand only at 6'2" basically another four so how will that help Uconn ?? Morgan Cheli is also a 5 star recruit and also stands at 6'2" tall another 4.. People are putting too much emphasis on Sarah..Uconn needs another BIG which there isn't a lot of them..Geno is doing what needs to be done...Get his freshman players better to help the team in March....Instead of trying to get Amari to play at his and uconn standards. It would be a totally waste of time. We will see what happens..Go huskies..
