Quarto dei Mille è un quartiere residenziale di 7.901 abitanti del comune di Genova, compreso nel Municipio IX Levante. Fu comune autonomo sino al 1926, quando venne aggregato alla Grande Genova. Affacciato sul mar Ligure, è compreso tra i quartieri Sturla, Apparizione e Quinto. In origine la denominazione ufficiale era Quarto al Mare, il nome fu poi variato nel 1911 in onore della spedizione dei Mille che ebbe inizio partendo da questa località.
Il mar Ligure, anticamente mar Ligustico, (Mâ da Liguria in ligure, Mer Ligurienne in francese, Mari Licuru in còrso, Mar Ligura in occitano) è la parte più settentrionale del Mediterraneo occidentale. In antichità il mar Ligure si chiamava, in latino, Mare Ligusticum, il mare che bagnava le terre abitate dagli antichi Liguri, definito tra Rodano e Arno. Nel V secolo a.C. il territorio abitato da questa popolazione si estendeva ben oltre i confini dell'attuale Liguria e la stessa Repubblica di Genova, comprendendo parte dell'attuale costa francese e di quella toscana fino all'altezza di Livorno.

Quarto dei Mille is a residential neighborhood of 7,901 inhabitants in the municipality of Genoa, included in the Municipio IX Levante. It was an independent municipality until 1926, when it was aggregated to the Greater Genoa. Overlooking the Ligurian Sea, it is included between the Sturla, Apparizione and Quinto neighbourhoods. Originally the official name was Quarto al Mare, the name was then changed in 1911 in honor of the expedition of the Thousand which began starting from this location.
The Ligurian Sea, formerly the Ligustic Sea, (Mâ da Liguria in Ligurian, Mer Ligurienne in French, Mari Licuru in còrso, Mar Ligura in Occitan) is the northernmost part of the western Mediterranean. In ancient times the Ligurian Sea was called, in Latin, Mare Ligusticum, the sea that bathed the lands inhabited by the ancient Ligurians, defined between the Rhone and the Arno. In the 5th century B.C. the territory inhabited by this population extended well beyond the borders of current Liguria and the Republic of Genoa itself, including part of the current French and Tuscan coasts up to Livorno.

C'était une commune indépendante jusqu'en 1926, date à laquelle elle fut regroupée dans le Grand Gênes. Surplombant la mer Ligure, il est inclus entre les quartiers Sturla, Apparizione et Quinto. À l'origine, le nom officiel était Quarto al Mare, le nom a ensuite été changé en 1911 en l'honneur de l'expédition des Mille qui a commencé à partir de cet endroit.
La mer Ligure, anciennement mer Ligustic, (Mâ da Liguria en ligure, Mer Ligurienne en français, Mari Licuru en còrso, Mar Ligura en occitan) est la partie la plus septentrionale de la méditerranéenne occidentale. Dans l'Antiquité, la mer Ligure était appelée, en latin Mare Ligusticum, la mer qui baignait les terres habitées par les anciens Ligures, définies entre le Rhône et l'Arno. Au Ve siècle avant JC. le territoire habité par cette population s'étendait bien au-delà des frontières de l'actuelle Ligurie et de la République de Gênes elle-même, y compris une partie des actuelles côtes françaises et toscanes jusqu'à Livourne.
